Where's Wes is a red-pilled religious zelot who came to Colombia just to push his machista, sexist, and antiquated views on marriage, women, and how men "should be". He believes that women should have a "low body count" (meaning less sex partners, compared to men) because according to him, men are territorial and women should not be sexual like men, whereas men can have as many sex partners as they want (women are sluts, men are just men basically). He is super into Andrew Tate who is the douche "alpha-male" that simply talks about dominating women and being in charge, he made a video saying how important this guy is, even though Andrew Tate has made horrible comments about sexual assault and their victims. He says he believes in traditional marriages, but he just means he is homophobic and also believes women should stay home while the man provides for the home. I hope no one wastes his time on his channel, he really seems nice, saying he loves Jesus, but he has some pretty disgusting beliefs if you really look at his videos. In short, Wes is NOT a good person but is really a superficially "nice guy" who in truth is the epitome of a closet bigot.

Another interesting video. I think I always say that. In my comments on Patron I gave the video an "A". You are an excellent saleswoman for Manizales. I have a feeling I'm going to leave another long comment, mostly about food, but that seems to be a topic that interests you and Dave. I wonder if you have heard of Diana Kennedy. She died July 24, age 99. She was acknowledged to be the foremost authority on Mexican cuisine. Born in England, she came to Mexico in 1957, fell in love with the country and the food, and spent much of her life searching small towns and rural hamlets for the country's best cooks (grandmothers). This was 10 years before my first trip and there were many fewer paved or improved roads when she began her explorations. She collected and preserved hundreds of recipes from every state in Mexico, and credited the originators of the recipes in her nine cookbooks (I own three). Prince Charles visited Diana at her home in Zitacuaro, Mich., ate a delicious meal and awarded her an MBE (ask Dave). Mexico awarded Diana the Mexican Order of the Mexican Eagle for her efforts to preserve and popularize Mexican cuisine. In 2019 a movie ("Diana Kennedy: Nothing Fancy") was made about her life in Mexico and featured her house and extensive gardens with many varieties of edible plants from all over Mexico. Extensive obituaries appeared in "El Norte", "El Pais", the BBC and "El Universal". The latter included the menu for the awards dinner at the premier of the movie about Diana. I think it was about eight or nine courses, each dish taken from one of her cookbooks. The meal served was obviously unforgettable and comparable to the meals in the movies "Babette's Feast" (1987) and "Like Water for Chocolate" (1992). I think you would enjoy all three movies. While reading the obituaries about Diana I discovered an amazing source of information on Mexico's fruits, vegetables, meat, food, etc., plus markets, recipes, restaurants, architecture, travel, crafts and traditions. It is called "Mexico Cooks!", written by Cristina Potters (a friend of Diana Kennedy). The photos are excellent and the information is really useful. I noticed a number of ideas that could be expanded into videos. I think it was in a December 2017 issue that she discussed New Year's Eve traditions in Mexico, such as carrying one's luggage around the block to guarantee travel during the coming year, or women wearing yellow panties to guarantee good luck and wealth, or red to acquire/keep an exciting love interest. Who knew. You haven't been sharing. Many more traditions were mentioned. You can find it on Twitter or Facebook, or Google "Mexico Cooks!" to find it. Mexico's restaurants and bars have been doing very well in worldwide competition. Pujol (Polanco, CDMX) was rated #5 restaurant in the world, and Quintonil (also in Polanco) was judged to be #9. Others in the top 100 were Mayor (Guadalajara), #51; Sud (CDMX), #52; Rosetta (CDMX), #60, and Maximo Bistro (CDMX), # 89. All very expensive, good for a major anniversary, but you and Dave might have to each wear two pairs of yellow panties on New Year's eve to afford a meal there. Bars have done well also. The list of the 50 best bars in North America included Handshake Speakeasy (Colonia Juarez, CDMX), #2 (one has to google the site to get the password, then go through a cigar store to get to the entrance door in back- just like the real thing); Licoreria Limantour (Roma Norte, CDMX), #3; Beltran Bar (CDMX), #7; Kaito del Valle (CDMX), #13; Cafe de Nadie (CDMX), #15; Hanky Panky (CDMX), #16; Sabina Sabe (Oaxaca), #20; El Gallo Altanero (Guadalajara), #21, and Selva (Oaxaca), # 22. And finally, I came across "Artes Popular en Mexico" by Dr Atl (Gerardo Murillo), Mexico's well-known mid-century artist. 50 years ago I noticed that Mexico's crafts were disappearing or were of a lesser quality. In 1921 Dr Atl was writing the same thoughts. As worried as Dr Atl was in 1921 I would love to have some of the crafts he saw, especially the textiles. Stay safe (sounds like Manizales is a good place for that), stay well, have lots of fun and keep making great videos.

I've heard of a few restaurants you mention and I even looked the prices up for the restaurant Pujol just because I was curious haha!
I haven't mentioned the traditions some people do on New years Eve it's true! I should mention them in December for a video. When I was a child, I remember my mother showed me the traditions of taing my empty suitcases and go for a walk at 12:00 am. I found it weird but now I can see it worked! haha

@@LaKarencitaMX I learn from you too. Thank you. In addition, your videos often spur me to do more research on a subject, so in spite of my broad general knowledge and experience re Mexico, I always know more than before I watched your video. I look forward to your New Year's Eve traditions video. Sweeping before one's house and then sweeping gold coins into the house sounds like a good one (that was in Mexico Cooks! too). It looks like $6500 Mex would pay for a meal for two at Pujol. That's about six days a week for six weeks at minimum wage, or spare change under the sofa cushions in Carlos Slim's mansion. Maybe you can start a GoFundMe page : ). I hope you will show more of the Cordillera Central. I bet it would look even better if the sun could peek from behind the clouds. Colombia has some amazing birds too. Some people visit Colombia just to see the bird population. I hope you can spot a few.

@@floatingmoon5778 Hello "Floating Moon". Very nice to meet you. Great name by the way. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my thoughts. They tend to be rather lengthy and maybe a little rambling in nature, so I suspect most people lack the patience to even start reading them. I never got to South America, or Central America either, although I would have loved to visit every country south of Mexico. Good for you for seeing as much as you have. A travel writer whose name I have forgotten once compared every state in Mexico with a different country in Central or South America. Perhaps it is true because I never tired of Mexico, even after traveling more than 100,000 kilometers by car, bus and train, visiting little towns and hamlets rarely if ever seen by other travelers. I doubt I saw half of what was worth seeing and exploring. My last trip was 40 years ago and the country has changed a lot, some times for the better and sometimes not. Little seaside settlements are now "must visit" resorts that extend for miles and house 20,000 or more residents. Little villages in the Chiapas highlands that once had mostly thatch-roof houses now have multi-story concrete buildings and are overrun with tourists who lack any understanding of the Tzotzil or Tzeltal people who live there. And in most areas of Mexico it is no longer safe to camp along the roads the way I did if i was too tired to drive further. On the other hand archaeological sites are more accessible, better restored and more numerous. Many churches have been restored to their original, colorfully painted appearance. Many old colonial towns are now pedestrian friendly. Accommodations and restaurants are more upscale and numerous to suit the tastes of todays tourist but they are more expensive. My hotel rooms averaged $3-$4 a night, with a range of 25 cents to $6 USD. Unfortunately craftsmanship, especially textiles and costumes, has deteriorated markedly. But it is their country, I don't begrudge them progress and greater prosperity, and things will change whether I want them to or not. I still have wonderful memories, thousands of photos, and my Mexican library packed into 30 feet of book shelves. Plus my collection of textiles and a collection of 40 different molinillos. If you are interested I have occasionally left comments, sometimes fairly lengthy, after a number of Karen's videos. I think a few were before her trip to Viet Nam, but I can't be sure without checking. Have a great week, and again, thank you. I hope I haven't bored you.

We have not yet been to Manizales but it is number 1 on our list of possible retirement cities. According to my online research the cost of living is incredibly low and the cool temps are SOOOOOOO appealing to us. Safety seems very good. Hospitals seem good but you can always fly to Medellin for world class medical care. The retirement visa income requirement seems easy. It is hard to find a downside to this city. I know no place is perfect but this city seems awesome. We are currently in my wife’s home country of Nicaragua and hope to explore many countries but I can’t find any other city that checks so many boxes. Thoughts ?

I posted the following comments on Karen's Patreon page but decided to leave it here also since most people will not see it there and a few may find the information interesting or useful....Manizales is a very modern city, founded (as I have discovered) in 1849, so I'm not surprised your video didn't show anything from the colonial era. The only building in your video that would fit into a colonial era Mexican city appeared at 7:00 minutes in your video, but of course you know that. It looks like a good place to live if one doesn't long for colonial era buildings and a picturesque scene. It's definitely green and beautiful because of that. Also new and clean, perhaps because it rains a lot, and not old enough to have acquired the patina and moss found in the old colonial cities of Mexico that are located in rainy areas. The cathedral's style confused me at first. There is nothing colonial era about it but the earliest colonial era churches often had gothic elements. The cathedral is rather new (1929-1959), designed by a French architect and built by an Italian construction company. It has a cafe (second floor) and there is a 90 minute tour that takes one to the top of the tower for a great view of Manizales. Tickets are sold on the east side of the cathedral. You may have discovered all of this. As for comparing the area to Roma Norte it seems an apt comparison. When we speak and want to describe something we often use comparison as a tool, and one uses what they know. "Professor" William gives you an "A" for this video.

@@LaKarencitaMX Me gusta tu respuesta.

You are a typical leftie woke who likes to stereotype people and get very offended about the slightest thing that someone says that doesn't fit your left leaning ideals, then tries to tell another person that they shouldn't associate with someone who they have met, but you haven't and do not even know
