  • Cultivating Curiosity: An Evolving Expedition
I've been captivated by Gautam Buddha's curious journey, particularly his decision to forsake life's comforts in pursuit of his own truth. I've discovered that life's most joyful and meaningful moments occur when we challenge the status quo and explore new paths in the pursuit of unanswerable questions. Over the past 30 years as a researcher of people, cultures, and change, I've found the most fulfilling moments in helping clients realize that they were asking the wrong questions, leading to transformative epiphanies.
I'd like to share a conversation with Sameer Shipurkar, an engineer who had the courage to admit, "I was bored with my engineering job because it lacked depth of human emotion." He ventured into indie filmmaking to explore questions and inspire meaningful discussions. Yet, he soon recognized that the utopia he sought might never materialize. So, he returned to school to study psychology and became a counselor, finding fulfillment in listening to people's laughter and tears. His work as a psychologist rekindled his interest in sexuality, as he believes people need help understanding this aspect of their lives.
Our conversation delved into his journey of curiosity and creativity, driven by his core concerns for social justice and conflict resolution. Sameer attributes his fearless pursuit of curiosity to his upbringing in Rashtra Seva Dal and the influence of individuals who have dedicated their lives to critical thinking and dialogue, such as Vasant Palshikar and Prof. G. P. Pradhan.
I hope you enjoy this dialogue.
