This brings back memories. My granny use to do all her shopping in Pineville. I remember her taking me to A&P. I miss those days. I left 18 years ago. I miss home.
@@SightsSoundsFlavorsmy Dads side live in Barbourville and surrounding areas so I’ve been all over down there. What I’d give to back 45 years or so and run like wild Indians with my cousins. It used to be dry so we’d have to go all the way to Richmond or down through the gap to Va. it made a heck of a beer run lol. Or you could go to the bootlegger at Flat lick
Wow how things have changed for me in 38 years. City Hall used to be a bank. The wireless store used to be Flocoe Drug store, The print shop used to be Farris Drug store. There were few restaurants and only two chain restaurants, Pizza Hut and Druther's. I am pretty sure not one of those business around town square were there, except Stephen Cawood's Law office but if I'm not mistaken it was obove Farris Drug's (Print shop now). I wish you would have walked down Kentucky and Virginia Avenue's to view the houses. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks for the video. Pineville is a beautiful little town. Some of my family came through the gap and settled there. They have some great festivals there too. I'm impressed that the city fixed up their downtown area, and brought in new businesses.
I grew up just outside Pineville in the late 50's through the 60's leaving in 1969. Of course most things have changed but some hardly at all, the Courthouse, the detention center (known as the Bell County Jail to us at the time) and the Bell theater have changed hardly at all from all those years ago. I distinctly remember that ticket office at the theater where we would buy tickets for movies, I distinctly remember what it looked like inside after walking around behind the ticket office to enter the theater itself. Wow, I can hardly believe I have such vivid memories of the theater lobby, I wonder if the inside has changed as little as the outside in the approximately 50 years since I was last there?
@@SightsSoundsFlavors Wow, I'll say it has- a LOT! Of course change is to be expected and I was surprised to see the Bell Theater and the Courthouse still looking so much like I remember them. But other things have changed so much like the Bank being replaced and the old fashioned Dinner just across the street on the corner is now gone. The barber shop, Newberry's, Brandenburg & Gibson Hardware, etc all gone now but of course the real surprise would be if they were still there! Anyway thanks for all the memories this brings back, there's simply not enough room to cover all the things I can remember there. Thanks again, this video made my day!
I grew up in Pineville attended Pineville schools I live just 8 miles away still. The painting on the side walk is done every year memorial day weekend for the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. They are painted by the students at Pineville high school. The jail is still active. The bell theater is still active it was a movie theater. Marylin monroes sister is buried in the cemetery by the hospital
