What works for YOU when you receive something in the mail that you ordered online? Any memorable art-receiving moments?

I agree! Receiving a thoughtfully wrapped item really does make it feel like a gift. It can really light up an otherwise dull day, It also shows the pride the maker takes in their work.

Hi, Anne. This was so lovely. I happened upon this right before going to bed. I have been thinking about trying to sell online. When I think back to some of my purchases, there's a few that really stick out. You're right; they had all the things you mentioned. One purchase was packaged, and stickered noting its recycled elemental wrapping, that was so beautiful, almost like a collage, that I kept it and framed it. I took care to open it. Another had a story on a postcard about how her series came to be. And, another, which I recieved yesterday, welcomed me to finding their company and had a handmade 4" origami crown inside. I thought, "How did they know I declared myself [jokingly] The Queen where I work?" So, each of these touches makes me stop to smell the flowers so-to-speak, to really look, take in the gifts of joy and beauty more personally. Thank you.
On logos... I sort of have one where I took my initials and formed them around a heart shape. Hearts have been forever my favorite shape.
On stickers... I have a friend who always mimics me for saying, "Ya know," all the time. One day I was playing around in my sketchbook, drawing self portraits. One, I did in watercolor. I scanned it into Photoshop and popped in a word bubble that said, "Ya know..." I printed it out and forgot about it. Sometime afterward, my friend visited and he spied the printout on my worktable. He stopped short, backed up, grabbed it and he said, "This could be your Brand!" I wasn't looking for a brand. But, ya know, it could be my brand. 😊
Thank you again. This got me thinking. ❤

Your "ya know" image and heart logo sound so fun!! They would be great in a personalized art wrapping situation!

Thank you so much for doing this video! This is so valuable to artists who want to sell work. It is important to think of the overall experience of the customer. Personally, It feels so good to receive something that is packaged thoughtfully. Also, I like that you brought out the irresistible factor. We all love things that are shiny and textural and nice to look at.

@@annelivingstonart Yes, I have a lot of paintings I haven't put up on my site yet as I was still mulling whether to sell originals or prints or both, and where to get prints done, etc. It's becoming clear that getting prints done locally, and also selling originals suits me best. I love the idea of tissue that fits my brand, too.

This was fun. I really enjoyd your collection of artwork, and it's interesting to see how different artists sign, authenticate and wrap their work. I've never ordered work online, and sadly I live in a small cabin without a lot of wall space (much of which is covered in my own works in progress), but I agree that it it a good idea to have small artworks for people who like your style and either don't have a budget for larger works or don't have the space. The last thing I bought was a 6 x 6" wood panel with encaustic, and I was so happy to find something that could fit my space! Thanks for this, Anne!

Loved seeing all of the pieces you've purchased. Love them all, but that little book of portraits, especially. Wow!!! What a beautiful collection of faces and personalities. How sweet of her to think to do that.
I love watching videos of people packing up art to send out. Love those special touches that you're speaking about. Looking forward to seeing all that you come up with and "boop" on your packaging! (Loved that!) 😄🥰 I can't express the giddiness I feel when someone puts even a little sticker in with a purchase I've made. So fun to get those little surprises. Like you said, it makes a girl feel seen and special. 💖
I've sold a handful of pieces, mostly when I worked in acrylics. But have never had a website, never done a show, etc. I know, a real go-getter over here! 😅I need someone to hold my hand. It all seems so daunting. But for now, I'm enjoying creating. 💕

Thanks for this. I've had only ONE sale in 2024, and that was a print. My work this year has taken a turn (bigger, abstract expressionism). I've completely alienated my customers/collectors. I've got far too big for my boots. I need to dial it back and get back to reality. I won't stop doing the big abstract expressionism stuff, but I need to remember the guys that have bought my stuff in the past. I used to love wrapping up the paintings, doing all the sweet, personal greetings. And so did the guys I sold to! Thanks for the kick in the butt, I needed this ❤
