The competition to win the book "The Tarts And Vicars Diner" is over we have a winner, congratulations SANDI HUNTER please see our community post for instructions on how to send us your address.
I worked in the office of a care home for many years and came to the conclusion that if you make decisions ahead, you have choices. If you wait until a crisis, you don't have choices. We are 60 & 65 and are looking very seriously at downsizing (no date decided yet) because of your videos. We had our children at a young age but they are waiting longer to have theirs. We had hoped to enjoy grandchildren in our current property that has a pool and lovely yard but you have really given us a whole new perspective that we have taken to heart. We definitely would like to own that book!👍 Thank you for all the work you do putting together thought provoking and fun videos.
My husband and I sold our home here in the US and are downsizing from 4200 sq ft to a 1400 sq ft apartment. Whew! What a process it has been and I had tremendous difficulty with anxiety after we made the decision and it became real. We were both surprised at how emotionally fragile I became and I sought a therapist (at my daughter’s suggestion) and started taking an anti-anxiety medication. Now, I a, feeling better and the more we sell and give away, the freer we feel. Your comment about waiting too late to make such a move is so true. I am 70. If we had waited a few more years, my husband would not have been able to blast me out of this place and it would take our children months to clear out this home. Thank you for your channel. You are truly an inspiration and source of solid advice.
We wish you all the best with your decision Patsy sounds wonderful we love our apartment , but yes the older you get the harder both emotionally and physically it is to do it Cheers 👍🌺🙂
We've experienced the pitfalls of helping our adult children financially. As parents, we always want to take away their pain and eliminate their problems by throwing cash at them. It's really hard to convince ourselves that it's actually harming them by not allowing them to figure out solutions to the problems they create.
The problem with that is that my parents didn't help me when I REALLY needed it. I think parents with money (my parents would travel once a month) should ensure that their children have health insurance, at the minimum. There was a lot of resentment between us and now they are old and wonder why their children and other family members have abandoned them. That is the worst thing for elderly people. I don't think of them as family anymore and as far as I'm concerned, they're already dead.
@@jeffw1267whoa. There should be other solutions than a parent ATM. You should question your decisions of where that got you to where you needed that much help.
❤❤❤ I love apartment living. By having someone else worry and take care of maintenance etc I feel like I literally get more life. The older I get the more I don’t want to be bothered by anything. Love your channel. Thx for sharing.
Great points Tina and Norm. My mom moved to a 55+ campus seven years ago after my dad passed. They definitely stayed in their large home too long, into their early eighties. She was in an independent living unit for a few years then assisted living for a year and a half. She thought she wouldn’t like downsizing but ended up loving her life there even after moving into a small assisted living apartment. The campus was beautiful, people and staff were friendly and there were many activities to chose from as well as shopping and restaurants. She passed away recently and I have learned the wisdom of downsizing as one ages.
My in-laws refuse to sell their house. They are so frail that they can't climb the stairs and have fallen several times trying to get into the house. Like you mentioned with your parents, now my in-laws are past the age of selling the house. It's a terrible thing to witness.
Very good video. My father-in-law made a good decision when he retired. He bought a condo in a good neighbourhood, on a bus line, near a shopping centre. When he died, his widow was in a comfortable situation that she could manage. In terms of decision making, I agree that as we age we can lose some insight. I think it is a good idea to have someone younger listen to our thoughts and see what they think about it.
Love you two; you are so funny. I remember my dad, quite a car guy, fixed up and gave one of my uncles and one of my cousins each a nice looking car. The guys kept the cars for a short time and traded them in on big, fast clunkers. Dad was so angry. I didn't get a car, because parents divorced ... I think of your friend in this light and wonder if he might want to talk to his granddaughter about his pride and joy. She might not view the car as such and might be happier with something else that he could buy for her, allowing him to keep the car he loves. Husband and I are older than you and we have chosen to continue living in a house. We purchased a much newer and more accessible house than the one we raised the kids in. Our thinking is that we own it, it is paid for, and no one can be the pain in the neck neighbor sharing a wall and no one can raise our rent (although taxes do go up) and no one can evict us. Two schools of thought, neither wrong. Thanks for a great video.
I retired 6 months ago and regretting it, finished all my home projects(not her’s) and looking for a new job!…..nobody want’s me because of my age, I’m going nuts all day alone with her!!!......thinking about starting a channel “Don’t Retire!..Here’s Why” LOL....glad you guys are happy…..keep up your good work!……
The money we got from selling our house, conservatively invested, more than pays the rent. Using round figures if you sell your house for 500,000 and get 4% return on the money that gives you 20,000 a year towards the rent. Plus you don't have property taxes, repairs and all the other costs associated with owning a house. On the other hand house prices have increased by a lot more so we couldn't get back into the housing market and a house gives more security against inflationary rent increases and market downturns. You have to be prepared to move from a rental if the landlord so wishes and that could be difficult and traumatic if you are frail.
We rent from a large corporation they have over 80 buildings in all different locations, it’s there business to rent we would never rent an individual Landlord Cheers 🍷🙂🌺🍺
Very sound advice. Also be careful of taking on too much child care for your kids, you can feel pressured into helping them but they can end up expecting you to be a full time carer of your grandchildren that will use up all the time you thought you'd have to enjoy in retirement.
im learning a lot on stories and advises you shared. Helping me to feel not guilty in selling my house, leaving all the memories. Now im getting more confident to downsize. Thank you very much, all love from Germany.
We are glad you find our videos helpful, we are so glad we sold our house and really enjoy renting our apartment building new memories have a nice weekend 🍷 🇩🇪 🙂🇨🇦
What a precious and personal gift that granddaughter will receive from her grandfather. So much more personal than 'a new car' which has no history with him. Lucky girl and super cool granddad. Parcels do seem to get lost more often these days I fear. Glad yours surfaced. The book would be awesome- lost 3 kg during our UK holiday and hoping to keep the momentum going. Any encouragement would be most helpful. My bonis mother in law lived till her 92nd in her home (69 years all up) and now lives in a unit with care as she is now wheelchair bound. A sudden change in her circumstance. The house will need to be sold. We sold our house of 4 levels and now live in an apartment- best move ever! After 4 weeks UK we came home, unpacked and enjoyed our balcony. No section maintenance to catch up on. It's called freedom! Thanks for the great chat and wishing you a warm and enjoyable part 2 to this weekend. 😎🥳🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿
We know how you feel Anita no worries when you leave to go away and so simple to relax when you get home (except the laundry 🧺 HaHa 😂😂) We also love apartment living allows so much freedom to just enjoy living . Hope you are having a wonderful weekend Cheers 🇳🇱🍷🇨🇦🌺🙂
We were experimenting filming this episode on an iPhone, unfortunately the camera app has some short comings and missed focus and oversaturated the image....back to our usual camera next time until Apple sorts out the iPhone 14 camera software! Thanks for watching we do appreciate it. 😀😀
I’m so grateful we downsized from an acreage property in Sydney to an apartment in Melbourne by the sea, in our early 60’s. If either one passes the other one can easily adjust to the apartment that is already ‘home’. We can walk to every thing we need, it’s wonderful. I agree totally Re not continuing helping adult kids. I get tempted at times but realise our $$ won’t replenish and they need to make adjustments to their ‘lifestyle’ to cope better financially. It is good for them to learn that they don’t ‘need it all’ now!! Very good topic today.. Thankyou!
I never understood grown able bodied adults who have kids relying on their parents for money, that’s an extreme privilege. I’ve always had to work hard and take care of myself and my kid 100% on my own
I recently just found your channel. Lots of great information. I just turned 70 and hubby is 73. We are in the downsizing process and considering moving into a senior apartment community. It is so hard to give up your house that you worked all of your life for but I can see hubby struggles doing things that he used to do without thinking about it.
I would love this book. Since covid my husband and I both have had a hard time trying to lose the weight we gained. Have a couple of friends diagnosed with cancer this past year and it brings home all the more why we need to keep ourselves healthy! Thanks for the opportunity to win the book😊
Hey 👋 Norm & Tina! You’re looking very relaxed. When is your next travel adventure? Regarding the book- I’ve lost between 30 and 45 pounds ten times in the past 10 years; yo-yo diet definitely. When we lived in The Villages Florida, I was known as “the skinny guy.” Twenty months after moving up to Delaware, I’ve got the Dad bod back. 😢 “Snack” is my middle name now. Once I have dinner, aka the “Senior Special” at 3pm, by evening time rolls around I’m craving chips, cookies, candy, oh my! I need a plan I can live with. Would the book help me? Thanks!
Still working on trip ideas Eric , yes if we eat at 3.00 we would be snacking all night LOL 😂 we thought we might go for a month to the Villages over Winter 🥶 is that a good idea 🤔Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🇨🇦🌺🍺
Yeah i agree. Don't be blinded by love to get yourself in hot water over. Im so glad i found this channel because Tina and Norm have made retiring and those type of decisions manageable.
I just recently retired at 60 and I have been watching you for the past few years. I really need to start changing the way I diet and therefore of course this book would be helpful. Have a great week!
I've enjoyed your you tube channel and the positive attitude regarding retirement. You both are the cutest couple ever. Thanks for the positive retirement info. My husband and I live in Winnipeg and recently retired.
Great video! Oh I bet if your friend had a heart to heart with granddaughter she would understand completely! He could keep his pride and joy and those 2 pick out something together for her. He could simply put it in his Trust to her. Thanks as always for good retirement advice! The book sounds very interesting and I would enjoy reading it to improve diet and hopefully live longer in retirement because of it:)
Dead right Norm&Tina....Interesting remarks. .Agree with you about choices..but a major consideration for me has been finance. In the end seeing the 7 wonders may be just a youtube exercise but we have found great satisfaction in learning history of UK - there are some fabulous places to visit, countryside, seaside, castles, medieval manor houses, industrial beginnings (mills, steam, bridges etc.) etc. I really think the secret to happiness is to see what is around us and appreciate what a world of wonders we truly live in!
Great comment, we need to be reminded of this instead of jetting off too far away lands. Being satisfied, content and happy are valuable traits to have at any age.
We were really first-attracted to following your channel when you so effectively validated our own long-range plan of moving from the house into high-quality rental accommodations at some point in our retirement. However now the missus is making noises about the garden work being onerous in the spring time and the house being hard to clean. I told her I already do all the vacuuming, I can do all the garden work, and I still like to shovel a little snow. This week’s “don’t leave it too late” advice was just a wound in my side ! Sorry, but I think I’m going to have to distract madam on Saturday mornings and watch your episodes alone !
Hi Norm and Tina, we have been enjoying your videos since 2021 from SouthernCalifornia. Thank you for sharing your insight as you go before us in your retirement living. Always a little nugget to take away. I agree with be careful what you promise, so true! And Tina you look great in Fushia! Love the Rocker Graphic Tees Norm, very hip and todays style!
I have commented before and would love to comment again to perhaps when this. At retirement, if we want to enjoy a long healthy time we need to focus on our diet and exercise and health.
Thank you for being so generous with your gifts. I could use this book at this stage in my life because I'm really struggling to loose my excess weight, trying one eating plan after another but unable to stick to living without bread or fats or whatever these plans require. If the author has kept her weight off, I'd love to follow her lead. We always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!
Such relevant and appropriate points. Strategic planning and thinking will diminish with age, which is to be expected. Also losing the impetus to move home when you really should. Recognising this earlier in retirement should help you plan for that future. Thanks for raising such great points.
Thanks for the insightful stories. We bought a vehicle that was the pride and joy of a grandfather but the grandson had not taken care of it so the father was selling it so that his father would not see the state of the vehicle. Somber story. Thanks again for the the experiences.
Hi Tina & Norm. I've been away from UA-cam for 3 wks because my mother passed away suddenly 💔 on May 25. Trying to catch up on my favorite channels. Oh my the mess we have inherited. Mom lived in same house for 50 years. She has things stuffed everywhere dating back to the 50s. Silly junky things. Even though I had been helping her clean out & organize over past 7-8 years, there was/is still a ton of junk. Please encourage people to give treasured items away before they die, keep clutter to a minimum, and don't keep stuff you no longer need or use.
We are sorry to hear about your Mom Candy 🌺clearing a house like that is a huge job which Norm did also when his Dad past away nice to have you back Take Care 🌺🙂
I would love your book! I'm 40 years old, single mom working remotely and been a yo-yo dieter for ages. It seems like every time the weight comes back with a few extra pounds added on. Latest trend I got on was Keto diet with intermittent fasting and seemed to work wonders but then everything went downhill beginning with Thanksgiving and all the winter holidays. Love your show! Thanks to sharing with us your stories so we can plan our retirement more efficiently!
Story #3 is most important. Always look after ourselves first and foremost. Can't rely on family to look after you and reciprocate the good deed you did for helping them out financially. I know someone, a single mom who contributed her entire life savings to help her only child to buy his first condo. That son did not hesitate to kick her out to the street after she encountered conflicts with his lazy, stay-at-home girl friend who sleeps and smokes all day long.
I am hooked on your videos - you give great advice. I have now taken the plunge and retired at 59. I’m financially independent and it makes sense to spend valuable time travelling and spending time with family and friends. Book looks an interesting read.
It’s slightly better today still hot and muggy Darryl , the air advisory not there today which was good as we got to see our Granddaughter play Soccer ⚽️ Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Woohoo! Thanks for the give away. I need to get off the yo-yo too. My family suffers with obesity and diabetes and though I’ve been thin all my life, aging has made this a whole need game!! Love your channel.
We would consider downsizing in the future.. we now understand the old saying of old peoples bungalows... no stairs to climb. Great channel Tina and Norm and greetings from the UK.
Love your stories! I am still minimum 4 years ( early reduced pension) and 7 years (unreduced full pension)... wrestling between the decision. I listen to your advice! Thanks!
Totally agree. I retired in April 2023 from 35 years with RCMP. We just returned from 3 months in Asia and now are booked for 6 months in Oceania starting in October. I do have a quick question for the seasoned slow travellers. What options do we have for long term health and travel insurance?
We have a full travel and medical insurance that we pay $329 a year for both of us (covers trips up to 31days ) up to 74 years old .In Canada 🇨🇦 we don’t need health insurance have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement thank you. We are from Vancouver, so Canadian coverage is no issue. It was the long slow travel overseas that I was looking for. I'll do some research on which company offers such. Thanks again.
Been considering a move to a condo for a while. My paid for house is small but old and falling apart. But even all the repairs don’t cost as much as what they want for rent these days and real estate is astronomical as well. Lot of homeless seniors because of increased rental prices. Seems my only choices are a rock and a hard place.
We are fortunate having rent control ours only goes up about $25 a month on the yearly increase . When looking at Condos just watch the HOA fees we have a video on that coming out soon , good luck with your plans Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Oh my goodness, would love the book! - just started walking 30 minutes for 30 days as an incentive to keep the weight stable - not too difficult a task walking around beautiful Kincardine though! Love this video - very good advice. We are enjoying the SKI plan in our 70s...(spending our kids' inheritance), and our kids are so thrilled that we are still able to travel and enjoy life! Thanks for making these great videos..
I absolutely love listening to your chats. You are so thoughtful and so wonderful. You give me such great advice as a 53 yr old widow. My husband's near last words were "I hope you can pass the house on to the kids". UGH! Me too! But there is a lot of equity in the house and I must finish raising them. I also need to survive another 40-60 ;) years. I appreciate the steps you've taken and how thoughtful you are. May I ask? Did you have a huge tax bill when you sold your place? Not sure how it compares to us Americans... That is something I must consider.
Sorry to hear about your husband Sandie , no we didn’t in Canada 🇨🇦 when you sell your house there is no tax on your primary residence. Have a great weekend and Take Care 🍷🙂🌺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Wow! How nice that there are no capitol gains taxes. It is about 37% here (I think?) and with homes appreciating it's quite a chunk to give to the government :(
It is so true as you age you need your money. With high inflation here in Ireland we have noticed our pensions not stretching as far. So you have to be careful with your savings. We already lost a lot on Bank shares before we retired so it has made us cautious. We have no children but were always decent to nieces and nephews now adults. But we only give Christmas gifts now and there are two great nephews which we love buying items for. A car seat is now around 300 euro. But cheques for 1,000 euro, those days are well and truly gone. In fact, one nephew is extremely decent to us which we greatly appreciate. Have a lovely weekend.
Side note: Tires need to be replaced every 6 years. The rubber begins to break down ("dry rot") and cracking starts in the sidewalls. All tires have a date of manufacturing date code - more info by googling.
Great subject Tina and Norm, you guys are looking great. If kids expect support from parents, they should be reminded that you can’t borrow money in retirements. It’s too risky.
I have an elderly neighbor who owns a seasonal second home next door to my second home. It's difficult in that town to find anyone in any contractor or service based line of work that is reliable or isn't part of the "underground economy". It's all "cash".. So when I cut my grass, I cut her grass, when I snowblow my sidewalk and driveway I do hers etc. While I'm a tad bit younger than both of you, I'm kinda sorta thinking about future moves myself and looking at senior type apartment towers.(there's a long waiting list).Since home ownership especially when the home next door or across the street sells , possibly goes rental instead of owner occupied and the new neighbors turn out to be nightmarish , with barking dogs all day, loud music and possibly dealing drugs you look at different living options very quickly.
Great video today! Loads of good information and wise advice. I've got the countdown app on my phone and we're just under a year away from my retirement!
That looks like a great Book Club read. The title alone would be fun to discuss with all the ladies. Enjoyed today's video. We have 6 children through our second marriage. We said right from the beginning we would not put ourselves in financial bind by helping them out. It has worked wonderfully and they are all living around the world and financially independent. It's difficult to say no but you have to. They might be unhappy at first but they begin to understand. Our parents were never in a position to help us out and to be honest we didn't want their help, we wanted to be independent. I see friends who are too generous and not struggling with their own situations.
My husband and I agree (sort of) that we will need to move from our rural property to the nearby small city in the next 5 years or so. Having moved numerous elderly relatives who were in denial about their abilities left it too late, this is top of mind. But lately we are having second thoughts due to the astronomical rent increases in our area, and equally astronomical price increases for condos. It's a tough call.
Remember you are the voice of people who live in a country that has ‘rent control’. Your experience of not owning your own home is very different in Canada to most other countries. In N Z the IRD definition of poverty is paying rent in old age. So long as I am sound in mind and body I will be living in my own home, the tax free capital gain on increased value is essential to a comfortable retirement.
If rent was so awful where do people live on low incomes. The idea that rents rise so hugely every year is just false. Property owners would not find tenants..
As relatively new retirees we love enjoying our first coffee of the day in bed and listening to your channel. As always you have sage advice which often follows our own line of thinking.👍
I will love to have the book , I am retiring soon , I need to work out and I was told loosing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise , So I can use all the help I can get , thanks.
Unfortunate that the fellow didn’t think his decision through with other options as you mentioned. Tough pill to swallow now. Thanks for passing on this story.
Hi you two! Tina’s new haircut looks amazing. Very uplifting length. Norm, not sure if you noticed but the video today was blurry. Great content as always!
Thank you must be the new highlights Tina got from her hair dresser! yes Norm did we were filming on the IPhone 14 instead of the usual Canon RP , we were trying it out but seems needs some tweaking as it focused on the lamp more that us LOL 😂😂 Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Our kids are 49, 46, and 42. The 46 year old daughter moved back with us after 20 plus years away due to health problems. She pays a little rent. We know people our age (we're in our 70's) who are still working because they can't stop shopping. We're in a 2BR condo near O'Hare airport. Tina, Al's wife
I know the feeling. I ordered my Subaru last November and it looks like I won’t get it until July now. I promised my old car to my daughter. Fortunately my car is still going well. Yes, decisions we make have consequences and it gets complicated with family. It’s often difficult to see all the ramifications, but life goes on and we try our best.
My advice is when you give something treasured as a gift, don’t expect the receiver to have the same attachment. My 80+ dad gave a truck to my son who liked the gift but hated driving a big truck, paying a lot in gas and it did not fit into his building parking. Most of all, my son was busy with school and work and although he maintained the truck well it was not washed and waxed weekly like grandpa had. Most of all, my son wanted “his own” car, not driving grandpas pride and joy. Plus, to some people (my son as an example) a car or a house is NOT an extension of your identity, to others it is a tool, and you swap out tools as you need them to suit needs- especially when you are building your life and still forming that identity versus having a strong identity.
Always happy to see you guys. 🤩🤩 I have made many retirement mistakes. Esp my home. I’m single and overwhelmed by home repairs 😢 . I want to move but fear and trepidation dogs me. Thanks for the advice .💕
Sometimes the fear is worse than actually doing it Mari , sit down jot down what you would like to do and see if you can put a plan together Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I enjoy your take on how to deal with giving to our children. I want them to be independent but will help in small but meaningful ways. Sounds like a book I’d like to read too.
I’ll be honest, the book sounds like it would be a great read and would love to drop a few pounds but your videos are my go to and look forward to every week. You offer such great information wisdom. This one in particular was most interesting as we have helped our adult child more times than one can count. I can honestly say it became a pattern of rescuing and giving in. Last year we both said enough, no more you need to find your own way. This is a great reminder that we made the right decision. At our age, it’s our time to enjoy life and not keep rescuing.
It would be nice to receive one of your gift books for health and well-being guides. In my youthful years I generally had lived a healthy lifestyle . Through the years had gone, life experiences things have had change in my lifestyle and it is causing me new illnesses of which are mainly can be avoided through a healthy lifestyle specially how , what, and when we handle our food and or caloric intakes. I watch your you tubes and always eagerly waiting for your next release. Keep it up your great works.
Thanks so much for watching yes sometimes we all have to changes habits especially if they are causing health concerns, the contest for the book has closed and was won by Sandi Hunter have a wonderful weekend Cheers ☕️🌺🙂
Great points. I especially consider the downsizing important - as I don’t have kids. I am trying to plan ahead as much as possible so that I can both enjoy my senior years, but also protect myself as best as possible. You were very smart to push back on your kids too - as you say, many people just become the parent bank and then don’t have anything to fall back on themselves.
We love the idea of "throwing our money away." We are 100% going that route wheb our last one moves out and work towards that as we get close to retirement. When we listened to some of your videos it became so liberting to think of doing that. TOTALLY makes sense. Thank You!

As we age friendships and socializing are so important beyond home ownership. We were happy for your Mum that she had a great experience.
We love listening to you both. We have 1 1/2 year until retirement. You have helped us to prepare. Our health is also what we are working on.
Thanks so much Jennifer glad you are finding our videos helpful Cheers 🍷🙂🙂
I really enjoy this couple and their content. Everyone’s situation is different but their conversations explore their decisions and their impact.
My in-laws refuse to sell their house. They are so frail that they can't climb the stairs and have fallen several times trying to get into the house. Like you mentioned with your parents, now my in-laws are past the age of selling the house. It's a terrible thing to witness.
That is so sad but reality hope you are having a wonderful weekend Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🇨🇦🌺🍺
Sounds like a very considerate person and had a great plan in place for her to be able to cope after the emotional loss Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Very well said😊. I learned a lot from you too. As we age, we're not able to bounce back easily from consequences of poor decisions.
Well said! totally agree have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂

Giving cars can so be emotional
I retired 6 months ago and regretting it, finished all my home projects(not her’s) and looking for a new job!…..nobody want’s me because of my age, I’m going nuts all day alone with her!!!......thinking about starting a channel “Don’t Retire!..Here’s Why” LOL....glad you guys are happy…..keep up your good work!……
Thanks for sharing Mark Oh dear you need to find a new project LOL 😂😂 a You Tube channel is a great idea we are loving doing it Cheers 🍷🙂🌺🍺
We could use more people like you in this world.
Thank you so much we appreciate your support Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
We agree Frank
My husband and I adore your channel! So calming and informative.
Thank you so much! have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
im learning a lot on stories and advises you shared.
Ah, the filming was fabulous! 😊👍
Thanks Rusty 🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Welcome!
Thankyou!
Sounds great and great planning
I would love to receive the book. Thank you for the opportunity. Now that I have been retired for almost six months it’s time to work on my health.
Congratulations 🥳 on being newly retired, yes we all need to work on the health but Cheers 🙂🍷🌺
I never understood grown able bodied adults who have kids relying on their parents for money, that’s an extreme privilege. I’ve always had to work hard and take care of myself and my kid 100% on my own
Sounds like you have done a great job , we never asked ours for money either Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I love watching you two. I'm retiring at the end of this year and have gotten many good tips by listening to you. Thanks and keep advising us! ❤
So glad you enjoy our videos Merenie have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
I’m retiring too Merenie at the end of the year , yeahhh .
I recently just found your channel. Lots of great information. I just turned 70 and hubby is 73. We are in the downsizing process and considering moving into a senior apartment community. It is so hard to give up your house that you worked all of your life for but I can see hubby struggles doing things that he used to do without thinking about it.
We agree it’s difficult we went through the same thought process
I would love this book. Since covid my husband and I both have had a hard time trying to lose the weight we gained. Have a couple of friends diagnosed with cancer this past year and it brings home all the more why we need to keep ourselves healthy! Thanks for the opportunity to win the book😊
Your welcome Elaine have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Definitely one of your best videos. These are conversations that need to be had for us in retirement…or close to retirement. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you your very welcome have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Yeah i agree. Don't be blinded by love to get yourself in hot water over. Im so glad i found this channel because Tina and Norm have made retiring and those type of decisions manageable.
Glad you enjoy our channel Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I just recently retired at 60 and I have been watching you for the past few years. I really need to start changing the way I diet and therefore of course this book would be helpful. Have a great week!
Congratulations 🥳 Sandra on your retirement have a wonderful week Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I've enjoyed your you tube channel and the positive attitude regarding retirement.
You both are the cutest couple ever.
Thanks for the positive retirement info.
My husband and I live in Winnipeg and recently retired.
Our pleasure! Congratulations 🥳 on your retirement Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
It is an interesting story and dilemma
My husband and I really enjoy your videos. Your outlook on life and retirement mirrors ours!
Glad you like them! have a great weekend Darlene Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
You guys are a "hoot" !!!! You always make me laugh and smile. Thank you so much ! Stay healthy and safe. And keep the stories coming ! 🤠🍷🍷🍺🍻☕☕🍓🍓
Glad you enjoy them have a wonderful week Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🌺🇨🇦🍺
My wife and I love your videos. We are new to retirement so appreciate your information.
Thanks so much Sean
We were really first-attracted to following your channel when you so effectively validated our own long-range plan of moving from the house into high-quality rental accommodations at some point in our retirement. However now the missus is making noises about the garden work being onerous in the spring time and the house being hard to clean. I told her I already do all the vacuuming, I can do all the garden work, and I still like to shovel a little snow. This week’s “don’t leave it too late” advice was just a wound in my side ! Sorry, but I think I’m going to have to distract madam on Saturday mornings and watch your episodes alone !
Or Steve you could just give in put a plan in place sell the house and find a great rental ( problem solved LOL 😂😂) Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thank you for these we all know it takes lot's of work to do this. Have an awesome day.
Thank you! You too! Cheers Alan 🍷🙂🍺
Thank you Melissa we appreciate your support in watching our channel have a great day Cheers 🍷🙂🌺🇺🇸🇨🇦
I have commented before and would love to comment again to perhaps when this. At retirement, if we want to enjoy a long healthy time we need to focus on our diet and exercise and health.
We agree Patty have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thank you for being so generous with your gifts. I could use this book at this stage in my life because I'm really struggling to loose my excess weight, trying one eating plan after another but unable to stick to living without bread or fats or whatever these plans require. If the author has kept her weight off, I'd love to follow her lead. We always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching have a great day Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
This book really sounds what my husband I need to read! Health is wealth!
Great saying and so true Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
As a recently retired person in Montréal, your channel resonates with me. The book sounds like something I would enjoy, yo-yo is my middle name!
Congratulations 🥳 on your retirement Julie have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Such relevant and appropriate points. Strategic planning and thinking will diminish with age, which is to be expected. Also losing the impetus to move home when you really should. Recognising this earlier in retirement should help you plan for that future. Thanks for raising such great points.
Thanks for watching and commenting Dean have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thanks for the insightful stories. We bought a vehicle that was the pride and joy of a grandfather but the grandson had not taken care of it so the father was selling it so that his father would not see the state of the vehicle. Somber story. Thanks again for the the experiences.
Our pleasure! have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Thanks for watching!
So happy your packages arrived. Happy ending! Good story about thinking more about our decisions. Thanks for all the great videos.
You are so welcome! have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
“Throwing away money on rent”😂😂😂 love you two fellow retirees.❤
Thanks Nancy
Story #3 is most important. Always look after ourselves first and foremost. Can't rely on family to look after you and reciprocate the good deed you did for helping them out financially. I know someone, a single mom who contributed her entire life savings to help her only child to buy his first condo. That son did not hesitate to kick her out to the street after she encountered conflicts with his lazy, stay-at-home girl friend who sleeps and smokes all day long.
Wow that’s awful thanks for adding your story a real eye opener have a wonderful day Cheers ☕️🌺🙂
I am hooked on your videos - you give great advice. I have now taken the plunge and retired at 59. I’m financially independent and it makes sense to spend valuable time travelling and spending time with family and friends. Book looks an interesting read.
Congratulations Jay!
Love your candid stories and the help you offer to others. Thank you,Tina/Norm for sharing your time with us.
Thanks for watching we do appreciate it
Good stuff! Hope the fires are under control and air quality improves.CHEERS from HERE!!!
Think the putting on weight seems to be normal as we age , we are fighting that too Christine Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
We enjoy your videos so much. We have been retired 8 years now and it has been such a pleasure! Love hearing about yours!❤
Thank you so much! have a great weekend Lucy Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
We would consider downsizing in the future.. we now understand the old saying of old peoples bungalows... no stairs to climb. Great channel Tina and Norm and greetings from the UK.
Thanks so much for watching!
Love your stories! I am still minimum 4 years ( early reduced pension) and 7 years (unreduced full pension)... wrestling between the decision. I listen to your advice! Thanks!
We do speak to you because we knew nothing at your time in life.
Such sound advice. I couldn’t agree with you more.
Thanks for watching Cheers 🙂🌺🍷
10:05 love this. Who ever is reading this, don’t give up. Retirement is when the fun starts!
Totally agree. I retired in April 2023 from 35 years with RCMP. We just returned from 3 months in Asia and now are booked for 6 months in Oceania starting in October. I do have a quick question for the seasoned slow travellers. What options do we have for long term health and travel insurance?
We agree being retired is the best ever and we are loving it , if others can retire early just do it Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Really good life lessons.
Great shirt, Norm! I have always admired Johnny Cash and his music. I met his daughter several times at parties in Nashville -- really nice person.
We love Johnny Cash too 🎸have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🎸🙂🌺
Been considering a move to a condo for a while. My paid for house is small but old and falling apart. But even all the repairs don’t cost as much as what they want for rent these days and real estate is astronomical as well. Lot of homeless seniors because of increased rental prices. Seems my only choices are a rock and a hard place.
We are fortunate having rent control ours only goes up about $25 a month on the yearly increase . When looking at Condos just watch the HOA fees we have a video on that coming out soon , good luck with your plans Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I have been yo yo dieting for years. I am not heavier than ever. Love your Johnny Cash, Norm.
Glad you liked Norms shirt have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
You two deserve gifts 🎉
Thanks for your contribution to the retirement conversation!
Thank you s much!
Thanks for watching Anne good luck with the walking, just admit we do enjoy it and try for an hour at a time Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Great advice I will listen to regarding “helping” with money.
Glad it was helpful! have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Lovely information as always. Thanks Norm & Tina....!!!
Our pleasure! enjoy your weekend Terry Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🙂
love your videos, we made too many costly mistakes finding the right house. Julius from Fl
Sorry to hear that Julius , hope you find the fight place to be home Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🇨🇦🌺🙂
Sorry to hear of your bank loses Mary rose , have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷 🇮🇪 🌺🇨🇦🙂
Wonderful stories, your videos are always relaxing and interesting!
Thanks so much Carol have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Side note: Tires need to be replaced every 6 years. The rubber begins to break down ("dry rot") and cracking starts in the sidewalls. All tires have a date of manufacturing date code - more info by googling.
Thanks for sharing Marley Cheers 🍷🙂🚗🍺
Glad you mentioned that. I was going to say the same thing. Old tires can be very dangerous.
3 very good stories to learn from.
Glad you like them! have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Great subject Tina and Norm, you guys are looking great. If kids expect support from parents, they should be reminded that you can’t borrow money in retirements. It’s too risky.
We agree
Well done Mark, helping out a neighbour is awesome. Being able to imagine your future is anticipating and heading off problems.
Always the most insightful topics well presented. Can't wait to see you hit 100K subscribers :)
Thanks Paul we would love it ❤️and be very excited to get 100K subs have an awesome weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Great video today! Loads of good information and wise advice. I've got the countdown app on my phone and we're just under a year away from my retirement!
Countdown app to retirement sounds great Mary , we are sure it will go fast thanks for watching Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
It would cause a few laughs at the book Club Sandi, thanks for watching have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
Hi Sandi you are the winner of the book 🥳👏please see our community post on instructions to send us your address 🌺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement where do I find the community post?
My husband and I agree (sort of) that we will need to move from our rural property to the nearby small city in the next 5 years or so. Having moved numerous elderly relatives who were in denial about their abilities left it too late, this is top of mind. But lately we are having second thoughts due to the astronomical rent increases in our area, and equally astronomical price increases for condos. It's a tough call.
it is a difficult time to move home
Remember you are the voice of people who live in a country that has ‘rent control’. Your experience of not owning your own home is very different in Canada to most other countries. In N Z the IRD definition of poverty is paying rent in old age. So long as I am sound in mind and body I will be living in my own home, the tax free capital gain on increased value is essential to a comfortable retirement.
If rent was so awful where do people live on low incomes. The idea that rents rise so hugely every year is just false. Property owners would not find tenants..
Poor people are rent subsidised by the tax payer, making rentals unaffordable for ordinary working people.
Look forward to your videos. As a recent retiree they are entertaining and more importantly educational. Thank you for sharing.
Our pleasure! have a great weekend Karen Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
As relatively new retirees we love enjoying our first coffee of the day in bed and listening to your channel. As always you have sage advice which often follows our own line of thinking.👍
Wonderful congratulations 🥳 on enjoying your retirement ☕️have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺☕️
I will love to have the book , I am retiring soon , I need to work out and I was told loosing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise , So I can use all the help I can get , thanks.
You are entered to win!
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you , I cross my fingers .

We know
people our age (we're in our 70's) who are still working because they can't stop shopping. We're in a 2BR condo near O'Hare airport. Tina, Al's wife
It’s ok to help out when needed we are sure your daughter appreciates your help Tina , thanks for watching have a wonderful week Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🌺🇨🇦
Thanks for sharing the stories. Keep up the good work supplying us with free educational retirement tips and entertainment.

I love your hairstyle, Tina! The shorter length REALLY suits you! Great video, too. 👍
Thank you so much! glad you enjoyed it have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
You both cheer one up entirely!!!!!
That’s awesome Marg glad you liked it Cheers 🍷🌺🙂
I know the feeling. I ordered my Subaru last November and it looks like I won’t get it until July now. I promised my old car to my daughter. Fortunately my car is still going well. Yes, decisions we make have consequences and it gets complicated with family. It’s often difficult to see all the ramifications, but life goes on and we try our best.
Thanks for sharing David, let's hope the car supply works itself out this year.
I would love to get off the diet I am on now. The book sounds like something I would enjoy reading
Thanks for watching Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Thanks for sharing your story have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Always happy to see you guys. 🤩🤩 I have made many retirement mistakes. Esp my home. I’m single and overwhelmed by home repairs 😢 . I want to move but fear and trepidation dogs me. Thanks for the advice .💕
Sometimes the fear is worse than actually doing it Mari , sit down jot down what you would like to do and see if you can put a plan together Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
I enjoy your take on how to deal with giving to our children. I want them to be independent but will help in small but meaningful ways. Sounds like a book I’d like to read too.
Well said! have a great day Wilma 🌺🙂
That book sounds interesting. To wrote this advice in a story format was very smart of the author.
It is a very cleaver concept of a story
I’ll be honest, the book sounds like it would be a great read and would love to drop a few pounds but your videos are my go to and look forward to every week. You offer such great information wisdom. This one in particular was most interesting as we have helped our adult child more times than one can count. I can honestly say it became a pattern of rescuing and giving in. Last year we both said enough, no more you need to find your own way. This is a great reminder that we made the right decision. At our age, it’s our time to enjoy life and not keep rescuing.
Thanks for sharing have a wonderful week Cheers 🍷🙂🌺
Hi Fiona, Just trying to share ideas so everyone has the chance to think things through. You are obviously on top of things
Always sound and helpful advice. Thank you.

We love the idea of "throwing our money away." We are 100% going that route wheb our last one moves out and work towards that as we get close to retirement.
When we listened to some of your videos it became so liberting to think of doing that. TOTALLY makes sense. Thank You!
We use “throwing our money away in rent”, as a joke, we don’t believe it.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I think you and your viewers know that you’re just kidding about throwing your money away
