    Come with me to the mine in Czechia, where I dig moldavite. I'll show you the museum at the end. I hardly explained any of the formation processes, but there is a lot of information at the museum and it is well worth attending. The dig site is a lot of work, and after digging so much in USA, I must say... its just like any fee dig site there. Operates the exact same. However its plenty of fun to go dig your own tektites and well worth it to find your own Besednice Moldavite.

    Enjoyed the video, brings back memories. I was there in Besenice about 15-20 years ago when I was living in the Czech Rep. Back then there was only one mine that supposedly had a licence to excavate moldavite, or "vltavín" in that area. I went there and the owner was really cool, I got a nice tour of how the operation worked. I remember the ladies in a hut through which a lot of washed material from excavators went along a conveyer belt and they were sifting through it looking for the moldavite pieces. I told him my hobby was gold panning and he asked me to sample some dirt for him which I did.There was a very small flake of gold which made him happy. He then brought out a big bag of moldavite pieces from a safe and said, "choose one". I sifted though these amazing pieces and one attracted me more than the rest so that's what I selected. To me it's a beautiful piece, like the wedge segment of a lemon in shape sort of. I still have it sitting a few feet away, one of my favourite possessions. The cool part was when I was leaving as one of the workers who was friendly called to me and then threw me an even bigger, more round and darker moldavite specimen. He held his finger to his lips indicating I should not tell anyone. I still have that, somewhere. I also picked up a few small pieces from the mine's tailings which again I have somewhere. The landscape of some of the surrounding fields and forests was like some sort of war zone with deep craters everywhere from the illegal digging. I didn't try any of that, not because it was illegal but because I knew it was looking for a needle in a haystack. Anyway, it was a great time and it is nice to see people having some legal place to dig for these tektites.

      I am sorry about the moldavite. I meant to say muskovite. I was reading about moldivate that day. At least you were able to correct the mistake for me. Thanks 😊

    Just bought a Hagstone from Adam's storefront in Vancouver, BC. I was enamoured by his impressive showroom and knowledgeable staff members. Caught a quick glimpse of the guy but he was busy in his workroom. Always a pleasure watching these videos and supporting Rubble Rock and Gem anywhere I can!

    Is moldavite mining still happening? since the price of moldavite got up in recent years. Has the moldavite gold rush ended.

      @RubbleRockAndGem  2 місяці тому

      it is still happening. The cops have been cracking down on the illegal mining, which has reduced supply.

    Can we find moldavite here in Canada?

    • @RubbleRockAndGem
      @RubbleRockAndGem  Місяць тому +1

      no. moldavite is a tektite, so it formed during the meteorites impact. there are various sites on earth that have been hit by meteorites, forming the impact glass. but moldavite is specific to the moldova river area. canada has no known tektites.
