The kill ending was better, because at least Shimura died with honor, if you let him live, the shogun would probably get Shimura to commit sepuku, which is more of a way to die with shame instead of honor.
And in the end, despite his heroism and defeating the foreign invaders, Jin Sakai lost everything. Becoming an outlaw, forever hunted by the shogun for his war crimes..
What war crimes? He did what the samurai couldn't do and killed the kahn and saved and freed innocents. He didn't betray the samurai, the samurai betrayed him.

@@0.Kiano.0 what really pissed me off was that jins uncle, lord shimura was so stubborn to listen to what they were facing, like at the beginning of the game when the kahn lit the guy on fire and cut his head off, he should have known by now that these guys dont give a damn about honor and tradition and the kahn has them all figured out. They became predictable and that was the mongols advantage, they were taking over entire villages and taking slaves. Take yarikawa village for example, they would have been taken and enslaved if jin didn't step in while the samurai continue to do nothing.
@eduardor-o4884 The game does a good job to show that there is a reason for their code. When stumbling on a boarded up house, they wouldn't let Jin in after he poisoned the camp at Castle Shimura. He defied Lord Shimura and went on his own. It shows that you can disrespect your leaders. As he says late in the game "what faith do you have that your people will not betray you?" It's not just some old dude clinging to lost ways. He's fine with using the hwacha (idk spelling, but the fire archery weapon), but he was not fine with the poison because samurai were honorable. They fought evil in plain day and made it known that they were not marauders, but law enforcing warriors. The Mongols used the poison Jin used against them too and destroyed more of their people. You could go on and on how this game does everything in its power to show you that this is about honor. Not that you blindly throw people at the bridge, it's that you face them with honor rather than sneaking, raiding, and pillaging.
He realised the Samurai would just end up giving the Island to the Mongols with their rigid code of honour. Much like the start of the invasion where the Mongols walked all over them. He could not allow that.

Both Jin and Shimura are right and wrong in their own ways and Jin did need his uncle's help in the final fight (even though they were late). Where Jin is different is that he accepts his mistakes and actually stops the Khan from using the poison, while Shimura is blinded by his honor to see anything else.

Kind of similar to the Jedi and anakin.
If anyone is like me and truly lives japansese samurai era, try watching a film called harikiri, just like ghost its a film that questions the honour of the samurai, there is a black and white original version and for those that would struggle to watch it there was a recent remake, both are excellent films i recommend anyone to watch them
