So many of the jokes in this thing are almost funny, but they just never land. I don't quite know why, but I know that the animation and directing certainly aren't helping.

It’s called a parody. Clearly isn’t a ripoff but a parody. Rather funny switch up of the girl chasing the monkey rather than the other way around like in the movie
