Being Swedish I have to say I am delighted for once to hear Ikea pronounced almost perfekt! I understand it is not an easy name to say in English, but to us it is rather fun to always hear ” Aykeyah” rather than ”I” like i in the word ” in”as you said it. And you also got Råskog right when you did a more german pronounciation. I really can understand the Ikea names can be tricky to say for non Scandinavians especially when we have three odd letters , å, ä, ö😃 The names are usually place names, like the plastic cup, Sunnersta, is an area in my hometown of Uppsala. I agree the large Alex drawers are great and I love mine . I am lucky enough to have some vintage printer drawers and plan chests but I have to say Ikea really got ut right w Alex and I would glady have one more. It is a shame there are hardly any Ikea furniture made of proper wood anymore, just laminate and/ or mdf. It was easier when so many more of Ikeas furniture in the seventies to the nineties were made of wood, they were much easier to adapt. I agree the Råskogs second and third trays are difficult to get into. I constantly reorganize mine but the items on the lower trays/ shelves tend to be forgotten! Thank you for a very informative video and it was so nice to see more of your studio!
Dear Irit and good artistic people.... First of all, Thanks Irit for this video and disclaimer about IKEA products. They are fast, lightweight, easily bought, but assembling them often means a marriage breakdown! I warn you in advance. Some things are not easy! I like to do it slowly. I have a few ideas below, on how to make things last longer..... I used to be a woodwork teacher, so here are some environmental tips; Being conscious of when and where IKEA are growing new forests as projects to restore habitats, is viable. Go for; One tree grown for every one cut. or use products from select cut plantations, which means they pick say 10 trees to cut and leave 3 standing to grow. Hardwood forests take 80-100 of years to grow to cut. Most old furniture are hardwoods. Tough, heavy, repairable, long lasting. My favourite! Nothing in IKEA is made from hardwoods. Pine forests take 35 years to cut for harvest. All Ikea products that are solid are pine, and dark in colour, are simply stained, and waxed. They dent easily but are strong over lengths. Hemp is a good product to use, vary quick to harvest. Toilet paper and writing paper is now being made from hemp or stone! We will see this as a future. Also fungi mycelium is a viable product, of the future, as mycelium can be trained, grown, moulded into shapes, quickly becoming new building materials for furniture too, load bearing. These three materials are the future! Complete Pine forests are cut to be totally mulched to make paper and boards. Any compressed board, is made of mulched fibres, with toxic glues like formaldehyde, it has a short life, due to moisture, rain, spills, it is often brittle and can break with weight or force, then more glue to laminate it. So, for a bit more life out of your boards, on the raw edges of the boards, the insides, use some PVA glue on your finger to evenly spread over it to form a layer, it acts like a primer, it makes it a little less prone to breaking, and it seals it from moisture, a couple of coats. Let each raw edge dry to touch. Then screw boards together! Be mindful to not jam something, together, sometimes you may have something left or right, or upside down. It will break near edges with force as it is brittle. If you can find another product or way, choose that instead. When people cut these boards in the factories, they can get cancer from the glues, smells, fibres. Using bamboo is grown in 8 years to cut and is very strong for blocks, and is good for cooking areas for knives. It can go over longer distances now, as they are "laminated as widening joints". Lots of great tools made from bamboo. A good choice. Buy recycled timber furniture, that may be heavy, but it is passed to 3- 5 families in it's life it is worth restoring pieces and a profit of double can be made! This is one of my favourite options. Finding solid timber furniture on the side of the road or at rubbish tips and learning simple repairs is fun. Table tops need to be planed, never sanded! We use a little tool called a cabinet scraper! Learning old skills to restore furniture, and joining woodwork clubs, if you don't want to spend much money. Make it! Fix it. Draw it. Create an idea. Most joining fees are only 35 -50 dollars a year. All the tools, timber and helpers are there! Luckily Ikea is listening to the people, so some of these values are now being used to market better products, environmentally, responsibly and ethically. Spare joinery parts are at the front of Ikea stores! Ikea uses pine forests in Scandinavia to cut, so it is best to use bamboo or solid timber when you can. I don’t know if anyone else suggested this but you can spray paint your cart to be white! You can also spray paint your metal pole to be gold or black or any color you like just make sure and buy spray paint for metal! Thank you for all your great ideas!
That's an awesome idea, thank you! My local Ikea doesn't have the Raskog in turquoise but I can buy the white and make it that colour. I can even make it another colour! I love reading the comments sections of YT vids because there are always so many good ideas.
Irit, you are inspiring me so much. I have a lovely large apartment with beautiful light, but just one bedroom. I paint or draw in my kitchen or dining room (kitchen is better when I'm splashing paint everywhere!) but haven't made a proper art space in this home, since I wasn't doing any when I moved in. It's compounded by the fact I don't really even have a proper computer/desk space here at home -- I keep much of my stuff at my actual office, but have needed to get a better setup at home for years. I have acquired so many supplies, but have made little effort to organize them sensibly. I have just used whatever bins or boxes were handy when the piles started falling over. But it's been such a big job to sort out what furniture I might keep or get rid of and how I might arrange the dining room sensibly... I feel like I might need to get a smaller table for eating, maybe ditch one of the bookcases, and get a couple new desks. But then I think, "if I get rid of the big table where will I paint on that Elephant size sheet I bought? Or spread out lots of big wet paintings? Won't I miss it???" I'm always spreading out stuff all over my huge table.... Then I get stuck and don't do anything. Same when I think about ditching one or more of the bookcases. Maybe I need to do that thing where I use graph paper to make a replica of the room and the furniture and the proposed new furniture so I can try different arrangements. (Part of the problem is there's not a lot of wall space due to doorways and windows). Wow, I didn't mean to go on such a long rant. I guess I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration, and also to offer empathy for how much difficult work this is. I understand why this is taking you so long and requires so much energy. Making the decisions requires FAR more energy than assembling and moving the furniture! Finally, I love the color of pink you chose for the wall, it's exactly what I envisioned you might do. A perfect background color for your paintings. So did you decide yet about a feature wall, rainbow or otherwise?
Thanks for sharing! I actually found a cute little course on Domestika that helped me make a bit sense of the process, combined with bits and pieces of The Home Edit approach. Just in case you're wondering, the Domestika course is by Geraldine Tan. Thanks for sharing your struggles!
@@iritlandgraf Seems like a sensible idea. Sometimes when I am reorganizing & decorating, I forget I can change or add things later! My perfectionist brain tries to do it all at once, the first time LOL
I love IKEA storage solutions! I have 2 large Alex cabinets on wheels, 2 Raskog carts, many IKEA tables and shelves and the pegboards. I am an organization junkie. I also love the white finish on everything for a bright and clean look. I added the wooden chopping board to one of my Raskog carts so I can also use it as a table top surface. Somehow with all of this excellent storage, my art studio space still looks like chaos. :-)
I totally understand your statement about being an organization junkie as I am also one! LOL!! 😂🤣. I also have 2 Raskog carts along with 2 carts that are larger from different brands. I use 3 carts for paper crafting and one cart for sewing supplies. I have a wall of beautiful built cabinets full of fabric a sewing cabinet with sewing supplies a walk-in closet with built in shelves with paper crafting supplies, electronic machines for paper crafting and DIY and sewing books, fabrics and supplies. I love going to IKEA or the Container Store to get the products that I want to help keep my home especially my craft/sewing studio organized.
I would love to get messages with images of studio organization. My art studio is a small bedroom, but I have a wardrobe of collage paper and some art board, etc in another room, plus closet with stored artwork and materials. My studio is a mess and cluttered. I need help! I want to move to another bedroom that is 2ft. Bigger, and the setup may work better.
I so appreciate your desire to repurpose. As a mom, it is hard to not think of waste and our landfills growing exponentially as the days pass. I guess we just do the best where we can, which can be more complicated with budgets, practicality and having munchkins (children). 😊 I love seeing how other artists store their supplies, especially mixed-media artists, as we collect SO much. I love you’re ez breezy style and am going to have to check out your art! Thanks Irit for your time. Blessings from the States.
A little aside, if anyone gets the ad for watercolor ideas or color mixing, don't click on it. The download will never be delivered, and all it does is takes you to a site that wants your name and email address, then tries to sell you all kinds of art courses. I've tried with two different downloads, just to see, and it was the same thing both times - so it appears that the offer of a free download is just a way to get you to their sales site.
I recently set up my fourth craft room and I have had almost exclusively IKEA furniture in the last two, one of which was set up for 12 years! I keep things for a long time (keep cars for 10+ years), so I don’t feel bad about having bought all new furniture for my latest set-up (especially since I passed along my previous furniture to a family who was thrilled to receive the items) - I switched from all black to all white furnishings and I couldn’t be happier! And I’m a huge fan of carts - I have 6! Thx for sharing your finds! Steph
Brilliant organizing suggestions; thank you. I was also considering a baby changing table as an art table. Many have drawers and shelves to store essentials. Some are high enough to use while standing. In any case, that is my « deux centimes ».
I don't think we need an excuse to like IKEA. I have been loving IKEA since the 80s when it arrived in Paris, France. I remember taking the RER with my rolled mattress. Now in my 50s there are still a lot of things that I love from IKEA. I love these drawers and I have them both :-) I also love to get old furniture or new higher end ones but they're not always as practical and space saver!
I have something similar to your Kvissle on the wall behind my door. I use it for things I tear out of magazines for collage. So my collage materials are organized by, for example, faces, flowers, maps, etc. It works very well for me.
Wow thanks for showing those cups you have hanging from the cart, I didn't know those existed! They seem SUPER useful for me, I need my most used supplies to be visible (and not in the bottom of some drawer etc) because otherwise I forget they exist.
So sweet watching your cat wash herself in the chair behind you…. I’ve just discovered your channel and have liked and subscribed. Great informative content. Thank you.
Love this! I love love love my Raskog carts! I love that they can be rolled around as needed and mine are loaded up with the cups, too. hehe! I have the Alex on my wishlist! I need two of them!
My bf works delivery in a big van, he's scored some really fun stuff from the side of the road, a lot of store fixtures. I am so happy to be part of helping existing things find a new life. One is a tiered round display for makeup or something, , it's like 120 cm tall and like you find with the Raskog cart lower tiers, I had a hard time using the covered shelves. But, those pen cups you have on your cart, here they are selling for 99 cents and they fit perfectly not only on the top of my freestanding Skadis pegboard, they are exactly wonderful on my round tiered storage. :). Loved your tour, tfs!
Thanks for teaching me the correct pronunciation! I checked the comments after hearing you pronounce it this way! Turns out everyone in Canada has been pronouncing it wrong. I shall henceforth try to say it correctly. Those drawers really are ideal for Art supplies!
@@anitaholmes6824 Yeah I told my friends and family and they told me they refuse to consider changing to the real pronunciation... They pointed out in English the real pronunciation sounds like "icky" as in gross/bad/disgusting. That must be why the pronunciation became "Eye-kia" in the first place. Because "Ick-ee-ah" sounds bad to English speakers. So I can't change it to the 'real' pronunciation if that would confuse and upset strangers AND all my friends and family... But at least I now Know the original native way.
@@valasafantastic1055LOL.. Exactly, I know because my daughter and family live in Norway. But here in Canada everyone says IKEA and I like it! If we were in Europe we would say it like they do over there. The correct way to say it depends on the Country you live in. LOL thanks for replying, always nice to hear from another Canadian!!!
I have a long rod om the wall where I hang my Sunnersta's, but I have thinking about getting a Råskog to hang them on so this video was helpful. Sometimes you are not allowed to hang things on walls in apartments so you need alternatives. In my home the concrete walls are very difficult to drill holes in so Råskog could be such an alternative. The "Å" in Råskog is pronounced like "Au" in the song "Auld Lang Syne". Not easy to say. 😁 You did well, Irit! 👍🇸🇪
Thanks for your suggestions! I also love re-using most I can, but for storage IKEA is so good. Like, I’ve had a vintage desk I love for many years, but it takes up a lot of space and gives me very little storage that is also a bit akward. Your Alex drawers look so good! I might swatch my desk for one with those. I will see if I can find them second hand! Since I have a tiny budget, but no rush, that works very well for me 😊 I also loooove the IVAR series, since it is só versatile. Both how you can buy loose parts and adjust the units, as well as how you organise your stuff in it, with for example the SAMLA boxes. Ive been using, moving and expanding my IVAR for 10+ years. It is also very easy to find and swop second hand, since it is so populair and versatile 😍
I also like the Ikea solutions for my sewing room and the Alex chests of drawers, the lemnon tables with the metallic legs, the kallax shelves, and the skadis boards are my favorites. I have a very small place in my washroom but always needed more place so that I reorganized for 3 times my room and I was able to adapt this furnitures to my needs at all time. Now the sewing “corner” takes 3/4 of the washroom actually.
Hi Irit, you are making me feel very unorganized!!! Great job and I love the wall color . My cart didn’t match my room so I just spray painted it white. It wasn’t messy or time consuming. You must spray outside of course. Just an idea. Best of luck. Kr
I love these large Alex drawers on wheels. I would like to visit Ikea, haven't been there in awhile. Have a Raskog, too. The question is, for the drawers, do I abandon white for the turquiose gray color?... Love their kitchen scrub brushes for my pans and dishes, too. Have bought small cactus there!
Really nice ideas and I like how organised your art room is. I also use some IKEA furniture for my art room, for me it’s the IVAR system in which I put my stuff and I modified it a little bit, build drawers for it and stuff. It’s easier to store my fabrics and trims in there. I used also some cardbord boxes in different sizes from IKEA for my other crafting supplies, because it makes me mad when I see the chaos inside my boxes. Everything is labelled, so it’s not a problem for me. I am based in Germany and I know the dilemma of finding special pieces plus in my area it’s so hard in general to find good thrifted furniture that didn’t cost a fortune.
The wide set of drawers are my fav. Use them similarly. The turquoise cart I love. Who wants white when you can have that gorgeous colour. I get deep bins from dollar store that come out very easy and stash my oil paints on lower levels.
I've watched you a lot for the past years, now I moved and I was in an inbetween living at my boyfriends place thing for months and didn't really have energy to watch any youtube and I'm so happy to have time and energy to watch you again. It's so nice to know I'm not the only crazy lady with a passion for pigments :D
Passion for Pigment ❤ would be a great name for an artist supply store, or a soap opera about artist indiscretions. The whole, who, what, when, where and why of forgery, theft, and ulterior motives. 😂
Those are some great Ikea finds! I’m always looks for new ideas for my art studio. I love Ikea, so many great pieces and various price points. Their directions are superb as well, and I have put together furniture from many different places. I would also love to get more second hand/vintage furniture’s but I find a lot of the time they are either overpriced, damaged and need work, or mismatch too much with the rest of the house decor.Ikea is really up to date with needs of current society, like chargers in end tables
Thanks for the great video! I've been trying to organise my crafting/sewing space for ages now without breaking the bank. It never occurred to me to go to Ikea but even if I did, I would never have known where to start. These are brilliant ideas and will sort out my necessary clutter quick smart. I'll definitely be watching your other videos to see what gems are to be found there. Greetings from Australia!
I was really smiling to myself as I was watching your video! I'm always for more ideas to maximize the space I have. My WHOLE craft/sewing room is totally Ikea. Six of the low Alex units put together have created a great swing/craft table in the middle of my room. Give me so much storage underneath. have another tall one that has all my machine embroidery threads in it, and another low one for my printer, with all the related things in the drawers beneath it. I also have Kallax units for storing all my paper crafting items, both in the main part of the room and in the closet. What would crafters do without Ikea. 🤣
We have an Ikea out here and they do have some good storage solutions. Thank you for sharing the ones you like and use! I need to reorganize some things in my space soon.
I would love a separate room for my art supplies but not until we remodel of the basement at some point. Ikea is 3.5 hours away so I don’t have a lot from them for storage options. I do have the rolling three tier cart but from Amazon and use it daily. My art desk is in the unfinished basement and it is cold in the winter months so I put most items in that cart.
I think you are doing a great job Irit! Everything looks clean and sleek. The storage capacity is great! I love your soft pink wall.😍 I would love the cart on wheels with containers. Handy especially top shelf. You can spray paint the black metal cart. I’m painting furniture and need to paint few metal pieces. First time.😅 Thanks for lovely tour and great storage suggestions!
I have the Alex unit also I love it! I do collage and mixed media so I have a lot of paper. I use the Alex drawers to sort my paper with one drawer for each color and the top drawer for little pieces that would get lost otherwise.
I have those drawers but taller. I was so lucky to find it at a thrift store in perfect condition for less than $40. It holds all of my acrylic and watercolor paint
Just a tip, one should not store their art pens pointing down. It causes the ink to dry out faster. Just a tip. There is some pretty cool stuff there in your art room. And it is true Ikea has some cheaply made products.
Absolutely depends on the brand. For example, felt to\ips like sharpies SHOULD be tip down. Cricut pens and Karin brush marker should be tip up. Dual tip water based need to be flat but dual tip with a core like Copic can be stored either horizontally or vertically. Always follow manufacturers’ recommendations.
Thank you so much for a great UA-cam. Just what I needed right now. We are moving in Oct 2022 and will need to move a lot of craft products into a much smaller room so I need all the help I can get. Looking forward to watching your update videos. By the way I’m from Australia and we say IKEA ….. eye 👁 key 🔑 a . I have no idea which way it should be pronounced. Once again thanks. I am now subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed! I pronounce it the way it is pronounced in Europe and Sweden where it come from, but seems like the English speaking peeps are insisting on their pronunciation 😉😂
I am the same when it comes to most items, outside of appliances, most has been given, inherited, garage sales, thrift stores, vintage and my beloved antiques that were made to last. My studio room, converted bedroon, looks like an antique store selling art supplies. lol
@@iritlandgraf you could take your kids, they are fascinated by stuff that once was common and isn't anymore. My kids are now all grown up and love the hunt as much as I did.
Thank you! I'm sorry the one I have doesn't seem to be available anymore... They have similar stuff though but I don't know unde what name. Will take a close look when I'm there tomorrow!
Hello Irit... I dont think the Alex drawer unit could be beat... it is fantastic! I love the wide drawers and they're not too deep so you're not wasting any time. I have the pegboard system but I find i'm not using it as much now that I've separated my sewing from my painting (two different rooms... moved the painting upstairs and there is no room on walls for my pegboard system.. so it's in the sewing room and I dont have much use for it there :( reason sewing room remained where it was (downstairs) is because of very (Very!) heavy cutting/storage table that my dear hubby 'hacked' using Ikea cube bookcases :) Can't wait to see your finished studio! PS: Loved seeing kitty relaxing on that lovely chair ... so cute
Thanks Jeanette! And thanks for sharing, I also love the Alex drawers, they are just perfectly made for my purposes. Wish there was a full wood option...
a white plastic pole cover will work well on your silver pole. It is slit all down the length and just pops right on. Very inexpensive and the surface is slick so dust doesn't stick.
Hiya! Thanks for sharing your favorite IKEA furniture and organizers! One way to change the metal pole and cart color is to use spray paint! It has helped me when changing the color scheme in my art room 🤗. Thanks you again! New subscriber, looking forward to marathon watching your uploads. Hugs
I love Ikea. I find my style of furniture : cheap and good quality (most of the time) I don't mind if everybody has the same furniture as me. By the way, in flemish we say IkEa i as in "in" the accent on te "e". But I live in France. The french say IkeA i as in "in" but the accent on the a. My craft"room" mor e of a corner in the living room has against the wall : 2 Billys of 80 cm and 1 of 40 cm. I am an oil painter, quilling, amongst other things. So far I can stowe everyting in there in plastic containers.
Thnx for this video! You told about the problem with the cart on wheels (second and bottom floor). That’s the reason I never bought it. Instead, I use a cart on wheels with little drawers. Hairdressers use these carts in salons. It also has a ring on it. Hairdressers use this for a spray bottle. I use it for a cup with water. Maybe this kind of cart is useful in your studio?
Thanks for the suggestion! I do have something with drawers that is also helpful. There's definitely advantages and it looks more organized. For me I want certain supplies to be visible for the easiest and fastest access :) Ikea has another trolley intended for bathrooms, it is different, cheaper and a lot less pretty but very functional. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You can also spray paint your Raskog white......my sister did that to hers because they were out of white and bought the only color they had left which was black....
I also really like Ikea but don’t like the heavy particle board. The Alex cabinet looks perfect. I love that you talk about reusing and used items. So few people even mention that we all need to consume less. By the way I have hair that is very similar to you. I found that a hair product with coconut oil in it makes my hair so much softer and gives it some beautiful shine. You might want to try it as your hair is beautiful but looks really dry.
You have the most precious supply an artist can have. Space. Unfortunately, Ikea doesn't sell that. My studio is described as 500 square feet but I can't decide where that supposed space is hiding! We Americans say "EYE-KEE-uh." is that incorrect? Looking forward to a full studio tour. Thanks, Irit.
500 sq feet is 25 x 20 feet, which is huge!!!!! Mine is 12 x 9 feet (108 sq feet) and it takes a 4' x 6' worktable + easel, bookshelves, storage and chest of drawer. Are you sure you meant *500* sq feet??? 🤔
@@MrsBarnabas Yep. it is a small studio apt. without a closet, but a full kitchen and bathroom , hence the limited crafting space. it is 4 dormers on top of our detached garage roof. The space is shaped like a plus sign. One dormer is the kitchen, the next is the stairway and the bathroom, the next is the dining and sitting area, and the last dormer is where I have my desk and printers under a high table. The space has quite a bit of center area which needs to be open to access the dormers. Hard to describe. I wish I could attach a picture. is that possible in this forum?
@@MrsBarnabas A 500 sq foot art studio would be heavenly, I agree! But living in 500 sq ft + fitting art studio in is very challenging, right? Melissa, I wish we could post pictures on UA-cam but it's sadly not possible. Instagram is probably the best option.
I was thinking this week of getting the shelf arrangement that's directly behind you in the opening of the video. It's nice to see it "in action." I had a terrible experience with the Kallax shelves, but love my solid wood work table (Gerton, I think? I don't see it in the online catalogue now) with adjustable trestle-style legs (Mittback). Now I'll watch the rest of the video :)
Go to Young House Love, they have an awesome site full of organizing ideas for their entire house (now in Florida). I’ve wanted the Alex Drawers for years now, but having moved to a retirement area, the closest IKEA is 2.5 hours away! It used to be 25 min😵💫. Anyhow, they swapped out the wheels for legs and put a long countertop on top of 2 or 3 Alex Drawers. Their kitchen tour shows how they organized cooking tools but you can always apply the idea to your room. I’m totally jealous of your giant art area as mine looks like a bowling alley- long and narrow. I’m missing the ‘organizing gene’ as well so I live amongst chaos. I feel I should bring in a professional organizing person to give me the foundation I need. Looking forward to seeing yours completed!
I love the Kallaxes so much- I've dragged my Expedits around for 2 moves over 15 years and will keep them until they fall apart. 😂 Also love the Raskog and Alex. Your storage cups are brilliant, will have to go back for some.
Totally agree! Also had Expedits back in the day. Many times I contemplate different options but end up choosing Kallax for the price and versatility. Thanks for sharing!
maybe some already suggested this....spray paint your carts....i bought 2 white ones & sprayed them copper seven years ago and they still look brand new
I bought my first Alex- the gray/blue one a few months ago. Wish I'd bought it sooner, as the price went from $100 to $139. I love it in my sewing room! I plan to save to buy another, as it stores so much and looks very neat.
Have you considered spray painting your blue movable cart white? I had a red metal cart and painted it with Rustoleym paint. Turned out really well. Also you could paint your cup holders. Just a thought. Found your channel this morning and subscribed.
I recently got a few of these Råskog serving trolleys. I needed new paint storage and this was the best option. One ended up in the bathroom as well to replace my old trolley. They say they are powder coated which is the best way to coat metal. I'm just curious how well these hold up over time since I still have a few shelves from IKEA, too. These are just open storage for work to store all of my folders and gloves that I need for daily use.
Ikea is really expensive in Australia, it's definitely not my first choice for a budget option here 🥲 I have an Ivar modular setup in my studio, it was not cheap but fulfills my need for a drop down table when i need more work surface. I actually stopped using the ivar cabinet though, if I can't see what's in it, i don't use it
Hello Irit ! thank you for your video I love them. I have Ikea storage only in my scraproom and I agree with you the quality is not up there. I need to replace my desk as it is peeling up ox
Half my house used to be furnished by 'I keeee ah' as we pronounce it in Australia ... IKEA , its very popular here and yes reasonably cheap in comparison, fun to put together, great when you are renting as well as owning a home. Fits in small spaces eg some of those wardrobes wont go through a normal size doorway..ha ha and once assembled will never come out either!! Surely its everyones choice whether they use Ikea or not? Just like any other chain store. Cheap art materials, yes but then its more directed to kids isnt it? Its not an art or quality craft store...you get what you pay for....I like IKEA
So now I have to dream about your fabulous craft (play room) where my bed is in the middle of the room and I'm surrounded by plants I cant go to IKEA because I always try to buy everything !!!!!! Thanks for sharing you are wonderful for passing your gifts on to your children.
Hi thank you for your video... it was very helpful for me as I'm just setting up a studio. Can you please tell me the name of the cups you had hanging from your trolley?
Glad it was helpful! I think those are the old version. Ikea has these in some form all the time, it's just the cheapest ones you can find there😉 just make sure they work well with your choice of rod if you intend to hang them on one . Have fun!
It is OK if the IKEA items and furniture look the same if the end usage is for a studio. :^) Since studios generally end up looking samy anyways, and the focus is on work and creativity. :-) In this case we value practicality over looks. Edit: I believe that it is kinda has the same logic and argument of stationaries and are supplies.. for sketchbooks, papers, coloured pencils and water colour tubes they all look the same. :o) But the output is different.
Thanks for the great video. Question for you, where did you learn to speak English? With the exception of only a few words where I could hear an accent, you could almost pass for someone from the American west coast. Very impressive. Did you go to school in the United States? Thanks again for the video.
Hi Kevin, thanks for the compliment! Nope, haven't studied in the US but have been watching American TV since childhood, reading exclusively in English for about 20 years as well as working in English as an online teacher and content creator seriously improved my English😁
Thanks for sharing this topic. I am just starting on my painting/craft room. I am buying things on the aftermarket, including a tall Alex drawers unit. On the left, you have cubes with storage boxes that fit perfectly. What are those? I am looking for solid clear boxes to fit the interior Kallax cubes. Would love to know the name of the rods you will hang the cups on! Please do share when you are finished!
I feel you can also repaint colours easily (such as spray paint-outdoors) and also consider taking the budget for used or new and hire a woodworker/artisan to custom build what you need. Find a woodworker and bring custom plans. Get a price/cost estimate if it’s way too much find another if you can’t get it ‘in budget’ after a while keep checking used or get new. I feel you didn’t mention the custom artisan/woodworker crafting and customizing option? Why not support a local crafts person? There is an option between big corp new and used only. I understand if you didn’t think of this and/or can’t find a woodworker taking commissions or if their prices are too high (out of budget). Might still be worth looking into. You can also look into the minimal gear and buy the wood and make it yourself. But if you are looking for a ‘perfect look’ then making it yourself might not be for you.
I have for my computer area a LAGKAPTEN palette that is 200x60 cm with two ALEX drawer units as support on each side + one leg in the middle. The folding table is probably 25 years old if not more and doesn't seem to exist, but they have similar things that would work, like PINNTORP, IDANÄS, DANDERYD or NORDEN. Good luck!
Yay! Glad I got the names almost right ;)
I think there is generally a worldwide wood issue, it has become a lot more expensive and harder to come by
I loved hearing that too!
I used to be a woodwork teacher, so here are some environmental tips;
Being conscious of when and where IKEA are growing new forests as projects to restore habitats, is viable.
In kindred spirit,
Eliza

I don’t know if anyone else suggested this but you can spray paint your cart to be white!
You can also spray paint your metal pole to be gold or black or any color you like just make sure and buy spray paint for metal!
Thank you for all your great ideas!
And I was thinking she could just spray paint her bars or rods white as well!
That's an awesome idea, thank you! My local Ikea doesn't have the Raskog in turquoise but I can buy the white and make it that colour. I can even make it another colour! I love reading the comments sections of YT vids because there are always so many good ideas.
Hi! I spray painted it light purple and I love it!!
Oh and I'm gonna skip a rainbow wall for now. There's a lot going on, I need to see everything come together and then maybe change accordingly.
Steph
Sounds great Stephanie! Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant organizing suggestions; thank you. I was also considering a baby changing table as an art table. Many have drawers and shelves to store essentials. Some are high enough to use while standing. In any case, that is my « deux centimes ».
That's a great idea!
You can spray paint the black metal organizer (non teal version). I sprayed painted mine metallic hot pink. ❤😂🎉😊
Yup mine is now light purple! 😄💜
I totally agree!
I've always lived in small spaces ans Ikea has always been my go to
Those small white cups are made for the Sunnersta system - they also fit on bakers racks (metal wire shelving) 😄
I have something similar to your Kvissle on the wall behind my door. I use it for things I tear out of magazines for collage. So my collage materials are organized by, for example, faces, flowers, maps, etc. It works very well for me.
That is awesome!
Wow thanks for showing those cups you have hanging from the cart, I didn't know those existed! They seem SUPER useful for me, I need my most used supplies to be visible (and not in the bottom of some drawer etc) because otherwise I forget they exist.
They are! Glad you enjoyed!
So sweet watching your cat wash herself in the chair behind you…. I’ve just discovered your channel and have liked and subscribed. Great informative content. Thank you.
Thank you and welcome Kathy!
Love this! I love love love my Raskog carts! I love that they can be rolled around as needed and mine are loaded up with the cups, too. hehe! I have the Alex on my wishlist! I need two of them!
I totally agree!
Mala portable drawing bag for in the car.☺️ I use it a lot. Its for kids but I think its great for everyone!! Thanks again Irit 💞
Rina just wanted to say I got that bag and my 6 year old loves it! I would love to use it too, of course. Great item and recommendation, thanks!
@@iritlandgraf ah that's nice Irit, how kind of you to let me know!
Thank you! Would be so nice to have a van! Glad you enjoyed and may you and your bf score many great items 😄
Thanks for teaching me the correct pronunciation! I checked the comments after hearing you pronounce it this way! Turns out everyone in Canada has been pronouncing it wrong. I shall henceforth try to say it correctly. Those drawers really are ideal for Art supplies!
Nope....I will not change how everyone here in Canada says IKEA because I prefer the sound of it! LOL
Great video. Thanks! I always like tips on how to organize my mess of supplies.
Thanks for watching!
This video has given me so many ideas for how I could spruce up my art corner with more furniture that would be much better than what I have now !
Glad it was helpful Sarah!
Since I have a tiny budget, but no rush, that works very well for me 😊
I also loooove the IVAR series, since it is só versatile. Both how you can buy loose parts and adjust the units, as well as how you organise your stuff in it, with for example the SAMLA boxes. Ive been using, moving and expanding my IVAR for 10+ years. It is also very easy to find and swop second hand, since it is so populair and versatile 😍
Thanks for sharing! I think there's some IVAR in my future as well. Our basement urgently needs some storage solutions and that might be the one!
Thanks for sharing, sounds great!
I have a Raskog cart too. I wish it was taller so the shelves would have more height, so I could store my binders on the lower shelves.
Hi Irit, you are making me feel very unorganized!!! Great job and I love the wall color . My cart didn’t match my room so I just spray painted it white. It wasn’t messy or time consuming. You must spray outside of course. Just an idea. Best of luck. Kr
Great idea!!
Thanks for sharing Joyce!
Lol, nope, another crazy lady here, glad to have you back😀
Passion for Pigment ❤ would be a great name for an artist supply store, or a soap opera about artist indiscretions. The whole, who, what, when, where and why of forgery, theft, and ulterior motives. 😂
Thank you for your experience with Ikea products. Agree with your assessments.
You are so welcome!
Kvissle is great for storing stencils too.
Yup great tip!
Oh yay! So glad you found it useful! Good luck organizing and welcome! 🤗
That sounds awesome! Glad you enjoyed ❤️❤️
We have an Ikea out here and they do have some good storage solutions. Thank you for sharing the ones you like and use! I need to reorganize some things in my space soon.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for sharing Laura, sounds great!
Thanks for sharing these great tips!
You are so welcome!
Wow, Beautiful Upload friend. keep it up. Thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Korea
I have those drawers but taller. I was so lucky to find it at a thrift store in perfect condition for less than $40. It holds all of my acrylic and watercolor paint
That is awesome!
Gel pens from Pentel should also be stored tip down.
My studio room, converted bedroon, looks like an antique store selling art supplies. lol
Sounds lovely! I would love to spend more time at second hand markets and such but I don't really have anyone in my life who likes that stuff...
@@iritlandgraf you could take your kids, they are fascinated by stuff that once was common and isn't anymore. My kids are now all grown up and love the hunt as much as I did.
@@deborahruth5072 good idea!
I LOVE the drawer organisers you have in the wide Alex drawers. Just what I need for mine. Do you know what they are called in IKEA?
Thank you! I'm sorry the one I have doesn't seem to be available anymore... They have similar stuff though but I don't know unde what name. Will take a close look when I'm there tomorrow!
I use a Linmon table as my cutting table in my sewing room.
Thanks for the tip!
Omg I love your round chair I have been wanting one of those or the egg shape ones for years
It's so good!!!
Hiya! Thanks for sharing your favorite IKEA furniture and organizers! One way to change the metal pole and cart color is to use spray paint! It has helped me when changing the color scheme in my art room 🤗. Thanks you again! New subscriber, looking forward to marathon watching your uploads. Hugs
Welcome Debra! Glad you enjoyed!
You can get spray paint to paint your rolling carts any color you want them. :)
If you need large, sturdy shelves, Ivar is great. Their wire shelves make great paper racks.
Thanks!
@@iritlandgraf you’re right about that. I notice I always have the most stuff in the top drawer. It is open at the top 😂
I have a white one and I like the turquoise!
You can also spray paint your Raskog white......my sister did that to hers because they were out of white and bought the only color they had left which was black....
Thanks Grace! I did, it's already almost purple ;)
some great storage ideas
I also really like Ikea but don’t like the heavy particle board. The Alex cabinet looks perfect. I love that you talk about reusing and used items. So few people even mention that we all need to consume less. By the way I have hair that is very similar to you. I found that a hair product with coconut oil in it makes my hair so much softer and gives it some beautiful shine. You might want to try it as your hair is beautiful but looks really dry.
Lol thanks for sharing and for the hair tip😂
With all those wet markers you can do a video on how you make them last and how to revive them once dry..
I think I'd better watch those videos since they always dry on me! 😂
I have exactly these same kinds of concerns! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing!
maybe some already suggested this....spray paint your carts....i bought 2 white ones & sprayed them copper seven years ago and they still look brand new
Yup, many have and I took the advice, it is now violet and oh so pretty!
finally was able to buy an Alex, after giving up on gettting a map file cabinet.
Same!!! Enjoy!
Hi Mary and welcome! Already sprayed it, it is violet and lovely! I show it in the studio Tour I posted a couple of weeks ago😀
@@iritlandgraf Thank you.!
Thanks for sharing! I need to do some organizing too. 🌸
You can do it!
A very helpful video! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for sharing this information and your other videos. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Hey! I am also in Austria!! Thank you for your tips!
Hi neighbour!
Thanks for the information, friend.
Ikea is really expensive in Australia, it's definitely not my first choice for a budget option here 🥲
I have an Ivar modular setup in my studio, it was not cheap but fulfills my need for a drop down table when i need more work surface. I actually stopped using the ivar cabinet though, if I can't see what's in it, i don't use it
In America we say eye-key-uh but I like how you say it better.
The raskog cart and the peg board I have and really like them. They work for me, but the pegboard is limited to their hardware so that I don't like.
Hello Irit ! thank you for your video I love them. I have Ikea storage only in my scraproom and I agree with you the quality is not up there. I need to replace my desk as it is peeling up ox
You are so welcome!
Very helpful, thanks from a fellow artist!
Why not spraypaint the trolly?
Already done 😉
Thank you Jewel! Glad you enjoyed ❤️
Since studios generally end up looking samy anyways, and the focus is on work and creativity. :-)
In this case we value practicality over looks.
Edit: I believe that it is kinda has the same logic and argument of stationaries and are supplies.. for sketchbooks, papers, coloured pencils and water colour tubes they all look the same. :o)
But the output is different.
I started using Ikea to decorate my art studio. I had to stop last year, however, when they doubled their prices.
Yup, everything is more expensive!
I have peg boards. I wish I had put them up before our plant shelves/lighting. Everything is uneven now.
Glad you enjoyed Debrah! It's their Samla boxes, they come in different sizes so just check the measurements before purchasing 😀
As for the rods I went with the ones that belong to the same series like the cups but I'm not sure I like them so haven't hanged them just yet...
Where did you get the chair at your desk? Would zppreciate knowing . Thanks!
Ikea😊
J’ajoute que, j’espère que IKEA vous a offert vos équipements après cette pub !!!
Hi where did you buy those cups that clip on to your rolling cart. What are they called and how much do they cost ? Thanks in advance.
Sunnersta cups :) Ikea
Spray paint the trolley white! Easy peasy!
What kind of tables do you have? Can you link the ikea and folding one please 🤗
Good luck!
Great ideas!
Thanks Angie!
I would like designs like Alex in real wood. Even pine which would be light and easier to move. Hate mdf.
Agreed!!
😱😱😱😱 wow, how many paints
Very nice channel, I am a new subscriber 😊
love it
I am not near an IKEA... but I still like the ideas
Thanks!
thanks, very helpful.
You're welcome!
Does IKEA have a pick up site near you? We can order online and pick up from a business a hour away
A half an hour away..
