Yes as a die hard Miami hurricanes fan this was tough to watch my canes offense got completely shut down Arizona s defense desert swarm was unbelievable I give Arizona all the props they were hungry and fast teddy bruschi led the charge congratulations Arizona they were the better team
This game started brewing a couple years before when Miami played a game in Tucson and defeated the cats. The Miami team was so disrespectful. They built the fierce defense of Arizona. Everyone took Miami’s behavior in a very personal way.
lol I was at this game. I was 11. Im from PA and my sister was a majorette in her high school band. Her band was invited to play in the Fiesta bowl parade so me and my parents followed the band out there. We spend like 5 days in Arizona and toured the whole state. We stayed at Mountain Shadows resort in Scottsdale and it was beautiful. The whole area around Phoenix is beautiful. We ended up going to this game and leaving the next day. We sat in the low upper deck behind the "miami" end zone. It was cool seeing people sitting on top of the mountains looking down into the stadium watching the game
It felt so good for Arizona because of the way the Canes behaved on Arizona’s home field previous to this. Might have been two years earlier. Canes were total jerks.
@@JediFight the Canes have always been jerks its like their thing thats why we got to eat shit when we lose and I bet it was gratifying to beat them. That Arizona teams defense was unreal. I think the year before miami only won 8-7
Tom Hammond: "For those of you watching in Florida and Arizona, just call this one the time Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson all got their @$$es kicked."
The game that made me an Arizona fan. I have been a Notre Dame fan since 1988 and still am. We watched this game before we went to the Texas A&M Cotton Bowl game and I loved the team so much. I'm an 05 alum, ND didn't have a computer program sadly. Bear Down, baby
@19:07 - they cut out the rest of the celebration- the camera cuts to the Miami mascot- the Ibis bird and the announcer goes "and the Ibis can't believe it. I have never, ever seen anyone outrun the Miami secondary like Chuck Levy just did". And it's true- for the past decade the Miami secondary had been the fastest unit in all of college football and Chuck Levy straight up out-sprinted 2 of them- and they had the angle. One of the greatest college football runs of all time, hands down.
I remember this game well. The Hurricanes offense never crossed the Arizona 40 yard line. “Come in our house and disrespect us”? Well the answer layer just up I-10 didn’t it? If Dan White was any good, the score would have been even worse.
1. You can tell by the body language Miami didn't want to be there. Arizona was beneath them. 2. Arizona didn't give a shit how Miami felt. The Cats won a share of the PAC 10. Miami was an at large team since West Virginia won the Big East in 1993. Whom then were throttled by Florida in the Sugar Bowl. 3. Miami screwed themselves out of the Cotton Bowl a few years earlier with their actions. Play Arizona at 11am on New Year's Day instead of Texas A&M. It's Miami's own fault and no one else's why this match up occurred. An Arizona/Notre Dame match up in the Fiesta would've been a great game too. Except ND would've been in the same situation as Miami. The Irish would've not wanted to be there. Arizona had an outstanding defense. The offense was limited and very one dimensional. Passing game was inconsistent.
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson #94 was getting blown off the line in the 4th qtr in mop up duty. There's the football field, and then there's WWE/Hollywood. 2 totally different things.
#34 Siegler was a heck of a college corner but didn't have the speed to play in the NFL went undrafted and signed as an undrafted guy with the Dolphins he looked good in preseason had a pick but was a surprise cut .played last in NFL Europe .
phenomenal Arizona defense that played disciplined defense vs. a Miami squad that was on the downswing and had fallen mightily over the previous two seasons. Ryan Collins was an average QB and that offensive line was awful.

They must have improved a lot to get to the National Title game the following year. It's hard to imagine Arizona being that good. It's been either Oregon, Washington or USC out of the PAC 12 as of late. I remember watching that game.
You can say what you will about Erickson but look at the 3 years you picked. Alabama? Nasty. Ridiculous defense. Better team. Arizona? Rinse & repeat. Nebraska? Those guys were playing in their second straight national championship & on their way to 3 titles in 4 appearances in 5 years. Cut the man some slack.
@@VBugg 2 of the 3 yeats he didnt lose by a little. They were run out of tbe building. And comr on, who loses to Osborne when they have a good team and it matters.
The Rose Bowl was at 5 PM ET (as usual), but contractually the Fiesta Bowl had to switch to an earlier kick-off if it had a Pac-10 team, so as to not have 2 Pac-10 teams on at the same time. So the Fiesta kicked at 1 and the Cotton at 4:30, both on NBC. FWIW, The Fiesta Bowl has had a 1 PM ET/11 PM MST start a number of other times over the years. In January 2006, January 2016 and January 2022, for instance.
Arizona played a hell of a game. Miami got outcoached badly in this game. Miami had more talent. But, facing a defense and especially a defensive line capable of this kind of pressure necessitates going to the shotgun. For Miami to not do this is inexcusable.
Yes, We all know you are the Miami Hurricanes. It's time for you to finish the season. You're ranked number 10. You win this silly bowl game by three touchdowns or more to prove you should have been ranked higher.
Rest in peace, Coach Tomey...this is one of your finest games... we will continue to BEAR DOWN !!!
I was at that game, best defense ever. RIP coach Tomey, Chuck Osborne, and Warner Smith. We will never forget your dominance and excellence!
Perhaps the greatest single game defensive performance in college football history.
2023 Team take notes from this AZ team effort! Lot of Heart in this AZ team. BEAR DOWN!

i went to this game..my senior year in high school..great memories..
Honestly still one of the best defenses ever on college football.
Arizona was all over these guys all day long. The Chuck Levy run right before halftime was the back breaker.
As a Canes fan this is one of the worst ass whoopins we ever had lol

So fantastic. Arizona kicked their ass completely.
Chuck Levy @ 19:07 - Came here looking for that. I remember sitting at home that day watching this game.
Me too. The way he blew through those Miami defenders was amazing. What an incredible run.
💯

Thank u for uploading these games. Brings me back to when I was a kid
Greatest game and performance in Arizona wildcats football history
One hell of a game if you're Arizona fan too bad Rich rod didn't have his offense out there with Dick tomey's defense holy shit
SMU vs AZ 1985. I'll take that Defensive effort too!
Levy's runs are memorable, but Carter had a strong game as well, running and receiving.
I was at that game, should have won in Miami the previous season!
I don't want to live much longer but watching these old bowl games gives me at least some reason to wake up another day.
Maybe stick around for another year or 2 and we could have some other big wins
@@play712 I hope so mate. I'm in a lot of pain every night. I go back to doctor on the 16th.
But damn there was some sticks in this game. Different game back then. Seems like more disregard for personal safty. Awesome to watch.
Aghhhhhhhh the good old days of old fashion college football not this new shit that I see.
Desert Swarm Defense Ted Brusci and Co..
Some time a Hurricane turns into s Tropical Depression.
I like to key in on Warren Sapp.. You can see why he was a Hall of Famer. He is quick off of the snap and relentless to get to the ball carrier.

Those Miami teams were always really fast off the ball both sides and jimmy johnsons cowboys were just the same way

Dennis Erickson without Jimmy Johnson’s guys…
He still won a title with his own guys years after Johnson was long gone.
