The only thing more shocking than these wines is the fact that you guys haven't blown up yet.
Keep it up - there's definitely an audience of young, fun amateur wine enjoyers that would lap this content up, you just need the algorithm to be kind to you. Also love the new lighting and really appreciated that you uploaded the Peter Gago interview to Spotify as a podcast - makes for a great commute!

+1 to all of this! Wish How to Drink would do a collab with y'all. Wine is almost completely absent on his channel (which is totes fine, just a notable gap he could fill more), and the vibes seem like they'd mesh. If any of the rest of that massive audience is like me, they'd be delighted to find this channel.

@@teensyalmondThat cause most people are there for cocktails which is a given. A lot of people hate the taste of wine which I don’t get. I like it more than whiskey.

Fun video and not an easy task by any stretch. I live in Hungary now and there are tons of decent, good and great dry Furmints; sorry your guys was off and so dull. Some of these were hard calls, even for industry insiders and wine geeks. Thanks for keeping it real and showing us the wild side of the wine world. Cheers!

We'd LOVE to try a bunch of amazing Furmints - we recently found some in Germany at a Trade Show that we were stunned by! Volcanic soil and everything - amazing!

    Fun tasting.
I’d say I can definitely see why you’d feel a dry Furmint was corked. It can sorta have that neutral fruit, slightly nutty, almondy thing if it’s not particularly powerful, a bit like young semillon.
Story about off the beaten track Argentinian wines; I bumped into Laurie from Ucopia who specialises in really cool shit coming out of Argentina (high altitudes, tiny productions, funny grapes) rather than the boring big standard stuff.
He poured me a wine blind, which I’m not really used to, and I gave him all pretty accurate tasting notes but was a bit stumped by it.
I was like “I dunno, it could be Bonarda, but I’m not familiar enough, or is someone growing Barbers up there that you’ve got your hands on..”
He said “No, it’s obvious really it is indeed Malbec”
But it was from this tiny half hectare plot of land something stupid like 3000 metres up, that this old dude who is sadly getting ready to pass away just didn’t want to produce from any more.
So Laurie bought up the 400 or so bottles and is now hand selling it to multi Michelin star restaurants who will put it on tasting menus.
I suppose it’s like how people assume a lot about Australian wine; but you know more than anyone about people making interesting stuff, Laurie is the same for those in Argentina.

WOW - what an epic story! Can definitely attest to the similarities - BUT - what did that Malbec taste like? We're intrigued!

Hey. I’d say it’s like a cross between the flavour profile of Malbec - cherry, plum, blueberry - combined with that “ethereal” body and finesse that you get with great Pinot or Nebbiolo

    • @wineforthepeople
      @wineforthepeople  Місяць тому

Right! So - lighter in body, a little more 'aloof'?

What an awesome selection! I’ve had 3 of these wines before (the Xinomavro is currently open in my cellar with a Repour cork so I’ll have to re-taste it!). The Bugey is a fantastic wine, so easy to drink. The Colomé is from some of the highest vineyards in the world and one of my favorite Malbecs I ever tried. I’m extra excited to see the Armenian wine! Armenia has been on my to-taste list for a long time now, but is hard to find here in Ohio. What a neat range of wines!
Also my friend definitely had an Australian wine that had cork taint that was under screw cap once, still infected with TCA, so Brendan is totally right, it can still happen. So sad for you, dry Furmint is one of my favorites. If you ever see Kiralyudvar Tokaji Furmint Sec anywhere, give it a go. Definitely not boring!

@@wineforthepeople so good! I just revisited this one and got cranberry and pomegranate on the nose and red twizzler on the finish. Acidity is really well integrated with the other elements. I really enjoy Alpha Estate as well!

Shame but agree on the Disznoko, that was the first drink I had after the Marathon du Medoc in Bordeaux and absolutely hit the spot then but no desire to hunt it out after. Also have had the Xinamavro you tasted and it’s the real deal!

Henry casually fingering the wine, that's why I'm here. And I like the new background. I believe the shelves are from IKEA, I have the same, bought by my mother in 1974, when she moved into her first apartment. Cheap but great quality, just how I like my wine!
