These creatures live in the most unforgiving and merciless weather conditions. What are your thoughts on musk oxen being able to survive in the Arctic?
I believe it truly exemplifies the resilience of life. To adapt and to thrive conditions that seem uninhabitable. And, to the beauty found in the flora and fauna that have endured there.
@@toddr3644 there's a big difference in adapting throughout millions of years and 100 hundred years, obviously they won't survive if their habitat gets hotter abruptly.
There´s quite big chance the Gulf stream will stop (it is weaker already) and who knows, maybe in the end there will be even colder in Europe. Noone knows for sure what the climate change can bring.
Even animals meant to survive the harshest climates are affected by climate change. Yes, climate change is constant thing, but humans' industrial advancement has accelerated the process so much that it leaves little time for most species to adapt/evolve to suit changes. Not an expert in the matter, just an opinion. Thanks for sharing National Geographic
It's evolution, nature and life will adapt. Even if there was a nuclear winter right now and close to all life becomes extinct, there will be new and better species capable of adapting to the current climate. That's nature.
This. I took a few ecology classes and that is exactly right. The earth's climate has its ups and downs and are in a cycle. These changes usually takes tens thousands of years to go from cycle to cycle. Currently, it looks like we are accelerating it where it may take a few hundred or a thousand years. It won't end life, but there could be mass extinctions. That being said, the mass extinctions of dinosaurs, did allow mammals to flourish and humans to exist.
Nature is so beautiful and wonderful it's just so remarkable that over the years and years this creature adapted to the cold and is Mother Nature's ultimate animal
I'm a vegetarian; I've never owned a car; I'm also a teacher teaching ecological awareness to young minds; I get my energy from a supplier that only works with renewable sources; I volunteer with Greenpeace and other green groups where I live; plus I research and do my best to never give money to companies that profit from destroying the biosphere. If given the chance, I would live off the grid. (PS: don't really know why you've capitalised the 'YOU' in your reply, but it seemed to me you were accusing me of hypocrisy. If so, then yes, I am to blame, as is everyone who lives under our self-destructive death-driven civilisation).

By the time the arctic ice starts to melt down, the musk oxen may have shed some of them thick furs and began adaptation mode to warmer climates ahead.. a long shot and it’ll probably wipe them out before they know it, sadly taking the rest of us along in their wake. Not at all impossible. It’s here.
I'm not sure what the process is to host these videos on UA-cam and i'm assuming that they are somehow taken from Vimeo (considering they are posted by the creator first) but whatever the method is, it seems to introduce audio compression artifacts and other random static. I don't mind since this channel links the creator's media pages so I can just find the original without it but it would be good if it wasn't an issue for people that may not know any better. Either way, keep the shorts coming.
What a strange planet. I mean c'mon, if you adapt that well, move south and adapt to a warmer climate. Nah, but for real that's such a remarkable animal, it's like a little mammoth roaming the tundra.
They can dig some plants and lichens from under the snow. And all big herbivorous mammals living in these cold areas also eat some meat, for example birds (youngsters or injured adults unable to fly away) or fish flushed from the sea on the shore.
I was expecting a fight between two 1 tonne male bisons. Yet, The fight for survival trumps all petty battles, ones that we will face soon with Climate change. Good narration, not dramatic, and good title.

They could really use some global warming.
National Geographic
Sir how much that temperature??
National Geographic I loved this video!!! I imagine it must have been difficult to shoot, and that makes me find the video even more beautiful.
National Geographic what do they eat in such harsh conditions?
Props to the crew that filmed this, they too endured the harsh conditions
Magnificent creatures.
They truly are, Stacy! It's fascinating that they've been able to survive in the Arctic for many thousands of years.
@@NatGeo yup
There beautiful to.😊
Amazing cinematography and soundtrack!!!
Yes.
Humans: oh no! Will they survive another century?
Muskox: Finally. Some warmer weather!
lol
"Will they survive another century?"
So sad 😢😢
Of course they will. They have survived massive shifts in climate. What animal is going to compete with them in that climate?
@@toddr3644 Humans.

Could you imagine how warm that "wool" or "coat" is on them? How thick is it? How many layers and types of "fur"? Just an incredible creature!
What’s with all the quotations? What are you plotting over there?
@@epicphantom1720 I think he's not sure on what term to use for the wool.
My heart melts to read that sad thing at the end.. Why can't human life come to an end so that the other species survive.....
Stop with this genocidal language
I cried when I read the text
I don’t want the arctic to melt

Hats off to the cinematographers.

Before you go asking your mom can you turn up the heat because it's freezing in the house, remember these warriors.
I pray we one day will be able to save this planet
Wow, Elon Musk and this Ox both have the same agendas..what a great analogy. Thanks NetGeo!
Did they flim using drone?
I thought this was a video with Elon Musk battling an ox. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
The musk ox has the longest fur in the world. It can reach nearly 40 inches (100 cm) in length.

I am here because i am year of the ox
How is their fur so well insulating and how do their noses keep from getting frost bite?
Musk ox crossed ,with a yak or a highland cow ,would be an incredible animal ,for people living in colder climates to domesticate for farming.!
Have seen no grass. Are they carnivorous? Where is food chain link?

what s the temperature there?
who is taking these pictures and how are they keeping from freezing????????
It’s a pity they filmed this in summer. It’s so much more dramatic during winter.
Unreal...
they are the smaller and still living versions of mammoths!
