As a Hornets fan, this was a really good analysis. I feel they get a lot of unnecessary hate from the media and so called NBA analysts. I'm really hoping for Charles Lee as head coach. I've heard him speak about player development and game planning, he's legit. On top of that, he has some familiarity with Rick Schnall and Jeff Peterson during their time with the Atlanta Hawks.
They get hate because the hornets have consistently let expectations down year after year and they signed Miles Bridges back after what he did which says enough about the people in the front office.
@@Saulgoodmanmanmiles bridges isn’t just some scrub in the team he’s literally the 3rd best player we have not bringing him back because of some off court stuff would’ve set us back
@@JAYN0CAPP Yes he is good but as a good organization you're supposed to put morals over everything. That's the reason why the thunder are probably going to trade Josh giddy after this season. It's also why the rockets cut Kevin Porter jr. He's a POS and the hornets are awful for choosing to give him a contact
@@Saulgoodmanman Serious question..........are the Dallas Mavericks awful for hiring Jason Kidd as Head Coach????? Back when he was a player, he was arrested and pled guilty to domestic abuse against his first wife.
Appreciated your work and content as always. The future of the Charlotte hornets is getting better going forward. The 2024 and 2025 NBA draft they have to nail it for this franchise in Charlotte. I like the core of LaMelo ball miles bridges Brandon Miller Mark Williams and the bench and they need to collect talent for the Charlotte hornets. So Im excited for the future in Charlotte. They need to build a winning culture and winning habits
Interesting takes, and I like the JJ Reddick possibility. Your talk about Micic has me wondering if he would not be a solid target for the Spurs so they can solidify their PG role, use the draft picknor picks for other positional needs, and then switch to a young PG to develop later after the team is more established and can cover the rough patches in a young PG's early career.
As a Hornets’ fan, this is a great analysis! I’m cautiously optimistic about our future. Hopefully we can get the coach that fits us the best. I hope we get Charles Lee as head coach. I wouldn’t be mad if we had JJ Reddick, but I’d personally prefer someone with some coaching experience.
I couldn't agree more I would prefer Redick because of the same reasons Sheldon mentioned and he's played the game. I grew up watching Redick play. I'm so eager for Sheldon to drop the Hawks and Grizz off-season previews (those two are my two favorite teams)
I think they should definitely add DeAnthony Melton in free agency, I'd like to see them draft Reed Sheppard , they need a 3 and D guy, Sheppard can provide that
If Sarr isnt there then they should go for Ron Holland. G league Ignite program Ive had little regard gor, dince theyre success rate with drafted oriducts have been subpar. So for me saying we shouldnt hesitate in picking Holland says a lot for his potential and what he xan already do. Hornets need more aggressive & dynamic players. And he fits this to a T. Also he has an unrelenting motor and athletism. And he's a two way player.
The one pushback I have about Sheldon's idea of Charlotte signing Klay is that he's 34 entering the back 9 of his career. I feel like he's gonna end up like a wayyy better version of the situation they just got out of (Gordon Hayward)
The Hornets really need to ace their HC hire. I've come around on Redick a lot, however I still am going to lead towards Charles Lee. He's someone who's been on winning teams pretty much his whole assistant coaching career and is a player's coach. I can see the young players (LaMelo, Miller, Williams, etc.) really gravitating towards him. As for the rest of the decisions, I can see Bertans' contract getting waived as it's only partially-guaranteed for $5.25M. JT Thor & Bryce McGowens contracts are both non-guaranteed, and with the roster crunch that Charlotte has coming up I wouldn't be shocked if both of them aren't on the team come next season. Seth Curry's $4M contract is also non-guaranteed, but I feel like he'll stick around as a vet that can still space the floor. Miles Bridges is the biggest decision to be made (Besides hiring an HC) that the front office will have to figure out. Did he do enough this season to make it comfortable enough for the FO to give him a contract along the lines of a 4/$120M extension ($30M) AAV? That's probably the contract that him and his agency will be looking for. I think they'll just end up keeping him, but I can see it being a tossup. I don't think the Hornets will be very active in free agency, but if the are then De'Anthony Melton would be my top pick. He's such a pesky, intelligent POA guard defender who can hit his perimeter shots and make life a lot easier for LaMelo. Giving him either the Full Non Tax-Payers MLE or most of it would be a smart signing. As for the draft, I think it's clear to me that if they get the number 1 pick Alexandre Sarr should be the pick. He is such an outstanding defensive prospect and I can see him growing out his offensive game with more years in the league. If their pick falls anywhere from 2-7, then I can honestly see a number of different options to go. I'm a huge fan of Reed Sheppard and Stephon Castle, and I believe they both would fit alongside LaMelo really well. If the organization wants to continue to have size and shooting, then Risacher would make a ton of sense. However I would lean towards Buzelis and just hope he figures perimeter shooting because his two way upside is immense. Imo this would be the ideal off-season: 1. Hire Charles Lee 2. Waive Bertans, Thor & McGowens (Or try to trade those two for future draft capital) 3. Extend Miles Bridges 4. Draft Alexandre Sarr at 1 5. Sign De'Anthony Melton PG: LaMelo/Mann SG: Melton/Micic SF: Miller/Martin PF: Bridges/G. Williams C: M. Williams/Sarr
Draft Alex Sarr, if you can. If you can’t, then draft Zaccharie Risacher, if you can. If you can’t get either, see if you can trade the pick for a rotational veteran and a lower 1st Round pick.
i havent seen anyone offer this idea. but Dalton Knecht would be an amazing 1st round pick if we slip past 4 which is what usually happens to charlotte. he is by far the most underrated player in the draft, and we need a nba ready player like him. we wouldnt have to develop anything about his game.. just draft him and play him at the 2 or 3. fyi im not a tennessee fan. ive just noticed his play in college is what translates to the nba.. hes going to shoot the 3 ball very well. charlotte is going to have to find forward size in free agency.. not this draft
@@woomington Well, I think he's a better "NBA" prospect than Reed Sheppard if they end up that low. At least he looks and plays taller than his 6'6 height, unlike Topic, who looks 6'1 even though he's supposed to be 6'6.
@@traydevon completely agree, i dont think we should draft a guard at all. its either forward or center.. theres only a few players in this draft that could be legit sg in the nba and i think we have freedom of choosing sg/sf or pf/c. theres no real pressure, but i dont think we should draft a primary ball handler.
First thing Hornets need is a Coach like a Scottie Pippen or Toni Kukoc, Robert Horry someone who can get the full potential out the team. And I know all fans going say that stupid but what do you think Steve Kerr brought to the table for the Warriors and players respected him as well because he was a 5 time champion 3 with Bulls coach Phil Jackson and Goat. Then 2 with Spurs coach Greg Popovich and Duncan. And Kerr took a losing franchise to 4 time champion. That why all the losing franchise has been turning around in the NBA taking the Warriors strategy building around your core players instead of throwing so called super teams together.. Hornets honestly have a strong core and some nice pieces they need a Coach more than anything...
