So many problems with this argument... 1. The conspiracy theory that Kabam gives out an individual garbage champ more than a god tier champ - Yes, there are more garbage champs that god tier (probably 80/20), but there is no evidence to suggest that a spidergwen is given out more often than starlord. 2. This theory assumes that players are going for only ONE champ, thus their odds are very bad of getting them. In my opinion, there are probably 15-18 champs in the basic crystal who are worthy of R4 meaning that you've got a 20% of getting one of them from a basic crystal. Same odds of getting a 5* featured champ, but for 5k fewer shards. 3. This argument ignores the push for prestige in alliances who are trying to maximize AQ rewards. Many players do not have the luxury of hoarding all of their crystals, waiting for ONE champ (i.e .Blade). They are better off taking a shot and getting any number of good champs who can help their prestige if ranked up to R4.
Jason Sanford i got SL from a basic plus all those champs from the featured crystal will be added afew months later there's only a 15% of getting what you want from just one featured crystal it took Brian Grant almost 10 crystals to get stark spidey while if you wait a few months on the champ you want and build up more shards your odds are doubled cause you'll have more shards
More 6* shards or more arena points Ill take that over the featured crystals any day. Plus I honestly believe that once 6 stars are playable characters we will see 5 star basic arena where you would just be able to participate with your 4* and 5*s (made a video about it a month ago or something). Featured arena just seems to be a huge gamble some people go 2/2 some go 0/21.
How I wish I was able to watch this before opening 4 regular 5* crystal yesterday. I got Civil Warrior, Iron Fist (duped twice now), Khamala Khan, and the worst of all, fucking Colossus.
Nice job Prof Hoff in getting this out there. It is just so hit or miss with the basic 5* crystal. For me I have gotten the blah champs in Civil Warrior, OML, Iron Fist, Loki and Colossus in recent weeks. In my Alliance as well mostly everyone has gotten blah champs as well. Only the ones with higher prestige seem to have gotten the Gwenpools, AA or Star Lord.

I went into a basic 5* crystal today and got the iceman I’ve been waiting for and had an awakening gem for him! Also now with the new featured crystal pool coming up basics will be the only thing you should buy once March comes
I got AA RON from the 1mil arena. I’ve been going for features since the odds are better but now the basics look decent it’s worth atleast a few try’s. Definitely worth saving for Mephisto and one of the new science champs.
My last pulls are KK from Featured Crystal. And She Hulk and Spidey Gwen from basic. I don't know which way to go. I mean I have pulled CM twice from basic, YJ and Mordo also. But I might try featured once I know how is Sentry or Void or Gladiator Hulk are. Cool video though. I partially agree with you. If you have 10 plus champs and a possibly hard hitter in your side then try for featured. But if not, do basic until you have a good champ that might help you in most content then you can go for featured.

This is very hard for me to believe because i pulled Hulk, Archangel & dupe hulk. All 3 five star crystals i opened in less than 2 weeks & only days apart.

Last two basic pulls duped Antman and pulled Superior Ironman. So makes sense go two times at 8% for a good champ or three chances at around less than 2% a champ I want from the basic.
I see and undestand your point, I saved 3 months to dup my Spidey stark and he has saved me tons of revives, also saved 1 month and was able to pull and archangel with the new release, but I only did this because I already had and 5* awakening mutant gem! I guess there's a middle point between 10k crystals and going for features champs. Right now I'm thinking if I start saving again for blade on february or keep opening crystals, my last pulls have been also nebula, mordo and Ghost Rider
1 thing you missed, when you buy featured champs you also spend half of a 5 star crystal at a chance for that specific champ, with that being said with your 1 for 12 on featureds you wasted 60000 shards for what? One champ, one champ that may be really good but when you look at it like that, it's just if you want to take a risk because opening either featured or basics you are taking a risk, but at least when you open a basic champ you don't lose 5k more shards if you get no one good. Also your have 6 more 5 stars, and they could be a crappy six or good six

This is somewhat short sighted. While you are correct that on any given basic crystal your % chance of getting the champ you want is lower than the featured, the featured % chance is not good enough to warrant only going for featured crystals. If you break it down statistically over time, more chances at a basic over fewer chances at a featured due to the 5k extra shards, your odds come out close to even.
I've gotten SL, Juggernaut, and Doctor Voodoo. My only 5* Champs. And note I've spent money on the game before, I believe if I haven't spent any $$$ I wouldn't have good champs. I honestly believe they reward those players who chip in $$$ more
I've never bought anything in MCoC and played for a year now. Pulled 5* 2x Stark Spidey and Blade and also pulled SL 2 days ago. The worst champs I've pulled are KK and red Mags but even they are not that bad.
I think I'm at the point where this is going to be helpful for me. there's only 1 champion i desperately need from the basic pool still and that's Captain Marvel to dupe her because i took her up to rank 4 last year. my only other good 5* is gwenpool i recently pulled after 4 crystals. i have 16 5*s and i've opened 19 crystals. I think my 4* R5 and 5* R3/4 champs are deep enough i can do most end game content (i'll probably struggle, but should be able to complete 1 run through of act 5.4 (and almost completely done 100% exploring 5.3)). are there any featured coming up in 2+ months that would be recommended for me and others to go for?
Great video and information as well! I know I will get heat for this but take it from someone who just spun out 5 basics and got close to trash champs. Yes, there will be a few select ppl who are going to pull god or good tier champions. However that does not negate the fact that their next pulls more often than not, will most likely be garbage. This is especially true you are do not spend money on the game. Imagine grinding your heart out for shards and being super active in an alliance just to grab those shards to then pull a 5 star she-hulk from a basic crystal. I agree that it feels worse to pull a terrible champ via a featured crystals, and I also believe that there is a sinister algorithm at play here. If your account is bound for a 5* Hulkbuster, then guess what? You are STILL going to pull that damn Hulkbuster. Spending the additional 5k shards on a featured does not guarantee you a great champ. However what it does it give you a slightly higher chance to pull a useful champion. After my recent basic pulls I will only go featured. The state of the game is changing and with the new uncollected mode, new arena changes coming in the near future, and special events, shards will be flying in so much faster.

I love the numbers it helps you to make logical decisions vs emotional ones. I think comparing your 8% chance with featured to 1.4% chance with basic is a little misleading however. You're assuming in that comparison that someone only wants 1 champ in the basic crystal and all others are a failure. That's not the case for anyone. There are at least 10 that I would be thrilled to get in basic, what I personally consider god-tier, ie worth ranking to rank 4 and better. So, yes 1.4% at any one of them, but 10x 1.4% equals a 14% chance at 1 of the 10. That's the only thing I wanted to add to an otherwise on point video. I've burned a few featured and many basic. I haven't made up my mind one way or another but when an exceptional champ comes along like Blade again in featured i'll have some shards waiting.

Well i opened three and pulled rhino,gwenpool then Hyperion. 5* champs are becoming as common as 4*s. If you're a mid to top lvl player the 15k crystals aren't worth it.....unless you're going for Sentry but you can still pull all those trashcans from the featured crystals.
Got 5* Dorm and Mordo back to back and I ain't saving an extra 5k shards for featured 5* crystals just to get a high chance of a basic 5* hero fuck that
I bought 7 featured Blade crystal,got 6 mediocre champs and Ghost Rider. Opened a basic crystal yesterday and got Rogue.You should have more luck on the featured ones but it depends on the hype of the char (i think chances are lower then).
This argument only works if you are going for one specific champion. As the pool continues to grow with better champs (March will be an optimal time for popping basics), your odds of getting a decent champ grow with it. I will never go for 15k crystals again. It just limits your overall number of champs and a higher number is extremely beneficial for arenas. I can use just my 5*'s for t4b and t1a arenas while saving my 4* teams for the featured 4* arena. I currently have 160k shards saved and will pop them all on basics.
Also you want to increase your overall number of champs in hopes of dupes for 6* shards. You are potentially limiting your shard count by paying 1.5× what others are spending for their 5* champs (especially if you get the same pulls they do). The better option I think is to grind arenas and pop featured GM crystals. That's how I got 5* Morningstar, Blade, and Hela (in addition to their 4* versions).
I just got my first 5 star and it's a Colossus, they didn't screwed me up on my first 5 star. I think Ronan would be a terrible hero to get as a 5 star, i'm glad i got Ronan as a 3 star.
This applies for higher tiers of people for progressing players it is better to just expand their roster because the chance of getting the champ with how little shards they get is not good and then theyll end wasting 5k shards

I believe it is the case as well. I told everyone I would get a Luke cage for my first 5*... and sure enough I did. If you are like me and fairly new (only have around 7,000 shards without the recent event with 10,000 crystals from the arena) and only ahve one 5* so far... should I still do featured?
In your case I'd still do basics until you have at least another 5 star hero that's not dreaded LC. Although with that being said if you go for Blade and get him on your first try it'll be the best decision you ever made and completely change how fast you can beat content in the game.
I think that's always a good argument and I sided that way for the past six months but now that the pool is so big and most importantly, that 5 star shards are far easier to come by, I wanted to make this video to let the community be aware of the stats. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, it's pretty much a sure thing that it's more likely to get bad characters. Yet, I also think that's not everything going on with the algorithm. I think that it also depends on the user (though, unlike the character-depending rate, I'm not that much sure about this one). Not only depending on wether you spend or not (or how much, if you do), but on the apparent skill. I have always thought that skillful players get much worse luck. Since almost the beginning of the game I saw a strong direct correlation (taking into account my alliance, some friends, some strangers and myself) between the personal PvP streak record and the bad luck. Now you need no skill to get a high streak, so if it did matter those days, now it's probably something different. Anyways... I can't prove any of this, but I strongly believe that a unscrupulous company (as in most "F2P" games) like Kabam would surely do this. What do you think about it?
erigor11 very valid points. Seatins first 3 5 star champs on his FTP account are Rhino, LC and Colossus. All champs you may have to spend to get through hard content

but the featured is mathematically bad too, the basic is cheaper of old featured, thats why. my last 3 crystals were cable TWO times and hood, its called RNG. it isnt unwise
@Martin For a veteran player such as myself what Shane is saying make perfect sense. I always save a decent amount of 5 * shards so that i can roll a featured but since my profile is a BEAST profile, It doesn't make sense for me to just roll 10k crystals that give me a very small chance at champs i dont need. Featured crystals are the way to go until you get your 4 - Five star rank 4 champions, after that you should save a stash for a God Tier 5 star and open a 10k crystals when you have more 5* shards than you need. check my in game profile so you can see what ive done. its the same as my username here on UA-cam including the periods

Ive only ever opened 10k basics. Out of the first 15 I had duped hulk and dorm plus unduped Angela x23 yellow jacket I guess I got a little lucky.

Well i opened three and pulled rhino,gwenpool then Hyperion. 5* champs are becoming as common as 4*s. If you're a mid to top lvl player the 15k crystals aren't worth it.....unless you're going for Sentry but you can still pull all those trashcans from the featured crystals.
My first 5* was Angela and my secong one was X23
Got 5* Dorm and Mordo back to back and I ain't saving an extra 5k shards for featured 5* crystals just to get a high chance of a basic 5* hero fuck that

I bought 7 featured Blade crystal,got 6 mediocre champs and Ghost Rider. Opened a basic crystal yesterday and got Rogue.You should have more luck on the featured ones but it depends on the hype of the char (i think chances are lower then).
Sorry about that that's just Kabam screwing you you should at least get one blade. I was 1/6...

This argument only works if you are going for one specific champion. As the pool continues to grow with better champs (March will be an optimal time for popping basics), your odds of getting a decent champ grow with it. I will never go for 15k crystals again. It just limits your overall number of champs and a higher number is extremely beneficial for arenas. I can use just my 5*'s for t4b and t1a arenas while saving my 4* teams for the featured 4* arena. I currently have 160k shards saved and will pop them all on basics.
Also you want to increase your overall number of champs in hopes of dupes for 6* shards. You are potentially limiting your shard count by paying 1.5× what others are spending for their 5* champs (especially if you get the same pulls they do). The better option I think is to grind arenas and pop featured GM crystals. That's how I got 5* Morningstar, Blade, and Hela (in addition to their 4* versions).
I just got my first 5 star and it's a Colossus, they didn't screwed me up on my first 5 star. I think Ronan would be a terrible hero to get as a 5 star, i'm glad i got Ronan as a 3 star.
AJ sadly Colossus is a very average champ as well. Ronan at least has a great stun with his special 1

This applies for higher tiers of people for progressing players it is better to just expand their roster because the chance of getting the champ with how little shards they get is not good and then theyll end wasting 5k shards

If you are like me and fairly new (only have around 7,000 shards without the recent event with 10,000 crystals from the arena) and only ahve one 5* so far... should I still do featured?
In your case I'd still do basics until you have at least another 5 star hero that's not dreaded LC. Although with that being said if you go for Blade and get him on your first try it'll be the best decision you ever made and completely change how fast you can beat content in the game.

I think that's always a good argument and I sided that way for the past six months but now that the pool is so big and most importantly, that 5 star shards are far easier to come by, I wanted to make this video to let the community be aware of the stats. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, it's pretty much a sure thing that it's more likely to get bad characters. Yet, I also think that's not everything going on with the algorithm. I think that it also depends on the user (though, unlike the character-depending rate, I'm not that much sure about this one). Not only depending on wether you spend or not (or how much, if you do), but on the apparent skill. I have always thought that skillful players get much worse luck. Since almost the beginning of the game I saw a strong direct correlation (taking into account my alliance, some friends, some strangers and myself) between the personal PvP streak record and the bad luck. Now you need no skill to get a high streak, so if it did matter those days, now it's probably something different. Anyways... I can't prove any of this, but I strongly believe that a unscrupulous company (as in most "F2P" games) like Kabam would surely do this.

@Martin For a veteran player such as myself what Shane is saying make perfect sense. I always save a decent amount of 5 * shards so that i can roll a featured but since my profile is a BEAST profile, It doesn't make sense for me to just roll 10k crystals that give me a very small chance at champs i dont need. Featured crystals are the way to go until you get your 4 - Five star rank 4 champions, after that you should save a stash for a God Tier 5 star and open a 10k crystals when you have more 5* shards than you need. check my in game profile so you can see what ive done. its the same as my username here on UA-cam including the periods

Bad advice, rather have more 5 stars to grind for arena and get dupes for your 6 star as soon as possible.
