I use a Zebra Z grip pen parts as my pen kit to make turned pens. All my equipment came from Penn Ind. Total cost to make a turned pen using this method is less than $3. Have you tried this method?
Newbi, free classes in my library. I made 10 slim line pens, all different wood. Working on a deer antler pen soon..All free woodshop with great woodworker volunteers.
A question Walter. When you used your parting tool, to take the end off of the comfort rubber space. Surely it was glued? and so it would not just slide off. Thats what it seems you did. Would you not have to turn it off?
Thank you for sharing your awesome pen project with us. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia

Might I suggest putting your tubes in the drill press or your hand drill and then sanding the tubes?
