    Kansei drift is actually just a scandinavian flick / inertia drift / pendulum turn. What you showed in the video is lift off oversteer :) Atleast in my opinion and thats also the way it is in initial d since you showed the clip when introducing the technique.

    Started drifting in AC about a year ago and found every 'drifting tips' guide just ran through stuff like 'make your rear wheels lose traction and you will 'drift' through a corner; have fun, that's all folks!'. So it's good to see some actual tips that I hadn't already heard.
    Personally think left-foot braking and using he brake to manage drifts is the single most important technique that I've learned in the last six months. I wasn't taught it, but after a while you just notice that certain things work, and you start using them. I use left foot braking almost constantly when drifting touges and if you want to reverse entry some horrible tight turn you can use lfbing to get up to high speed on a straight and brake hard into the hairpin without touching the handbrake or using much weight transferal at all. And using it combined with handbrake is crucial to me since I'm still at the stage where I can't perfectly judge when to engage handbrake with tight turns at high speed.
    The one thing I have most trouble with though is long, shallow-cornered, high speed drifts, especially ones where the angle of the corner changes as you're drifting. Think of Akina Lake's first turn, or some of the long turns on Kunos's Highland drift course. I naturally flick the back end out quite severely, which means I lose speed. But if I try to to do it differently, and catch the drift at a shallower angle, I almost always end up understeering and straightening up. It's driving me a bit nuts because I'm decent-ish on short courses but when it comes to long, sweeping, shallow drifts I'm twitchy and hopeless.
    Any tips(useful ones, not 'give up' or 'git gud') from drifters who're good at that kind of thing would be appreciated. And again to That Sim Racing Bloke; excellent vid, I'm off to try some of these out.

      exact same problem here, have you found any tips my man?

    • @thesprawl2361
      @thesprawl2361 Рік тому

      @@hvitekrist7778 Nope, nothing aside from the answer you least want to hear: practise.
      There are some things I notice that I do when drifting these really long, shallow angles, but they're pretty obvious:
      - try and leave room in the rev band, so that you can accelerate and oversteer-correct your drift if you start to understeer wide.
      - left foot brake to tuck in the back end
      - be in high gears obv.
      I'm better than I was, but I still find tracks like LAC and Pacific Canyon, Akina Lake, etc. tricky because the speeds you reach are so huge and bumps in the road are worse because of that. My Fanatec shudders the room when I'm running Pacific Coast in a 1300hp VDC Silvia. And if your back end swings out too fast and you're in third/fourth gear you just can't catch it because your engine will stall when you try.
      Touges are my forte really. The big, long, fast tracks are still beyond me in terms of consistently performing well on them. I can manage Usui Pass(the big looped touge by Euro and Kozzren, might have the name wrong) but that has very wide roads so it's fairly simple.
      Any tips of your own?

    • @hvitekrist7778
      @hvitekrist7778 Рік тому

      @@thesprawl2361 I wouldn't be giving any fruitful tips as I am more or less a beginner. However, mostly from trial and error, I did manage to take advantage of some correction techniques when I'm going too close to the inside such as clutching to decrease angle and handbrake a bit to slide outwards. Not sure if this is the "correct" technique though

      @@hvitekrist7778 ...You do what feels right. You hear a lot of people talking like they're experts about drifting online. But 99% of them are just bluffing overconfident types. Stick with your instincts and just practise.
      It really is tough at the beginning though, I feel for you. I'd say I'm just past that point and now I can actually enjoy drifting rather than spend most of the time trying to three point turn out of narrow touge lanes that I've ended up stopped sideways at, facing a metal rail, constantly shuffling back and forwards to get out of the position, like Austin Powers in that little car in Dr Evil's lair. It's so dispiriting at first. But hang in there.

    I think all the begginers should use the old BMW M3 e30, till they get all those tricks done flawlessly. Is just an opinion of mine, somd people might be different. But the e30 it's so balanced and has such great maneuverability, with just enough power to make the perfect car for beginners. The AE86 might be a bit hard for some folks as you don't have the power flexibility.

    • @demijne9
      @demijne9 2 роки тому

      I agree with you
      Although when i started to learn how to drift i found the ae86 easyer to control and the e30 was like its got a mind of its own. But thats just me being weird

    • @teknastyk
      @teknastyk 2 роки тому

      its true. newer m3s tend to screw with you with certain settings, like no diff or cannot set rear suspension right.. the power looks good on those newer but for learning its only the e30. 86 has just enough power and it proves difficult even if you know what youre doing.
      Not completely new here but yeah.. those were my experiences. Just decide a track with an e30 for start and keep grinding. When you get bored, maybe switch to some good phisics car mods like WDT or something realistic and youre golden. Took me a couple of days straight to get it down on gran turismo 6 back in the days.. then again a few days on sport. then again on ac. but now.. its like riding a bike. turn right to go left - logical. :D

Its hard to put in words. Good explanation. I guess thats fish tailing - not a technique but just not that pleasant to watch...

      @@patrykrog8121 AC allows mouse steering? seems I overlooked this. Finally a good reason to use more than 1.2k DPI on my mouse.
      Still, unless Nipz rebinds the brake key onto any other key his other hand can easily reach, he's screwed.
      I still agree on the controller part if only because keyboard switches are like bool variables (either it's pressed or it's not) whilst controller triggers these days give float values between 0 and 1 (0.5 for 50% pressed trigger for example).
      Considering how picky this game is with the handling, if you lack a steering wheel a controller is still the better option because some of these drift techniques require a constant light press of the brakes while you mash the throttle, and if you try doing that on the keyboard, the brakes will always be pressed 100% of the way.

      @@OfficialDJSoru well mouse steering is still a whole lot better and you can actually brake and throttle at the same time but this gets difficult. The only part that is hard on keyboard is no clutch and thats the reason why i still prefer lfs for drifting. Also the game limits the throttle when you are in a drift with mouse steering for some reason but you can get around this in content manager and then its good for drifting. I actually mostly do the touges and i get good times and im about the same speed as people with wheels if not faster. The only time i loose time is in some fast corners that then turn in really sharp but i found a way to stay fast and that is to initiate a drift and let that slow you down. Its not easy with keyboard but i can assure you its 10x better than using a controller
