Beautiful video. I used to live near a heron nesting ground on the Tennessee River. The real call of the Great Blue Heron is a very loud "GROCK" as it flies overhead or is startled at night by a predator ie something. Yes, it sounds like a pterodactyl, but while hunting they are usually silent, like all good fisherman, so they don't scare away the fish.
Thank you for your great comments. Yes, unfortunately this heron was quietly calling, the city noise didn't help... You're right - they are quiet when hunting which is how we usually see them. Very exciting to live near their nesting ground. Must have been interesting to watch them. Best wishes for your day, Cathy
I enjoyed looking through your older videos and I had not yet seen this beautiful video. 👌👍And I found hte very beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Greetings, Tine
Gorgeous Heron : ) Great close up : ) Lovely lake and weather : ) Beautiful presentation and video Cathy : ) Full Watch : ) Thank you for sharing this wonderful presentation : )
I had one of these fly down on me last week. Biggest bird I ever saw. Scared the hell out of me. The legs are so long and it looks so weird when it comes in for a landing with those long thin legs. I thought aliens.
Thank you so much! They usually have a loud squawk but this beautiful heron was making quieter calls when we were watching. Glad you heard it too! Best regards, Cathy
I have seen 2 Great Blue Herons since December, a young heron and this beautiful adult in breeding plumage stopping in Central Park (I assume) for a rest and some fish before moving on. I hope they visit you soon as well! Enjoy your week Celine!
We rarely hear this bird, it's nice to hear him make this little sound. Beautiful close up on this heron, I can’t wait to see them here! Have a great week !
I live close to the beach so we have one heron that always returns to the park next to my house to take shelter on stormy days! I’ve also seen him watch people play tennis. Very shy bird.
Very cool. Interesting that he watches people play tennis! I also find them shy but fascinating to watch when they are hunting. Enjoy the weekend. Greetings, Cathy
I have one who I catch fish for and feed him. We fish together sometimes I throw bread to chum the fish and then he catches them. His name is Larry and he is my best friend.
Incredible capture! Are you in Central Park all the time? How in the world do you see all these things?! I'm there every morning walking my pups, but usually never get to see all the birds in your videos.
Thank you! I have been trying to visit the park at least once a week. Good areas to visit are the Ramble and the bodies of water. Since dogs are a threat to birds would be best to leave them at home when you're out birding. Look for those with binoculars. Most birders are happy to share what they have seen and where!
Thank you for watching and commenting! The calls were quiet but I rarely hear Great Blue Herons make any sound as the park has a lot of eople and is so noisy.
I have seen one of these on my walks for about 5 years now, I have named him Harold
Thank you for the great comment. It is so nice to see familiar birds every year and Harold is a wonderful name!
Harold is such a cute name.
Lol that's what I named the one I see 😂
That’s awesome. My kids have done the same with one we see on our regular walks. They call him Harry the Heron
The unkempt?
00:04 me before crush calls
00:10 me when crush is calling
Took me awhile to get the joke 🤣
He is beautiful!
Yes, surprised to see such vibrant breeding plumage during our winter season.

They are! especially with their breeding plumage! Thank you Peek At Wildlife for watching and commenting!
@@quote_nature You are most welcome! :) Glad to spread the love of wildlife.

Cool throat movements 👍👍

I've yet to capture these birds calling or vocalizing. Thanks for sharing this!
It was very unusual for me to hear and see it vocalizing also. Wished I had seen what it was alerted to. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
@@quote_nature Catch them flying in summer or at their roost and they're quite raucous.

Je l'entends souvent crier en s'envolant quand il a peur mais n'ai jamais entendu ce petit cri. Très belles images ! Warm regards.
Yes, it was a very quiet call, I guess not an urgent declaration.
He spent the winter here? He is already ready to mate? He is very well filmed. I can not wait to see them again. Great video! Good week!

He's so beautiful. Demands respect from the others. He is great!
He is. Thank you very much for watching. Enjoy the day!
Heron is a nickname for a tall person. As a six foot guy, I love them.
Cute! Tough to film, but they show up occasionally. My best successes have been in FL (vacation) & NH (March-Nov).
They are a great looking and intelligent species. Hope you get to see them again soon enough. Best regards, Cathy
