Fascinating video! That's quite a full nest, and it's funny how they all suddenly get very quiet and attentive when Mom leaves the nest. I see the Great Blues here all the time, but I've *never* seen them nesting.
I can't believe this horrific cannibalistic monster who stuffs on anything from ducks to rabbits to alligators swallowing them whole headfirst and often alive, is somehow your "favorite". I also used to admire how majestic these birds looked before I found out more on them and their eating habits right here on UA-cam.
@pauljordan4452 Yikes... What a weird thing to say. Let me be clear. An animal is not a "monster" for being a predator. That's just the circle of life. Eat or be eaten. I personally don't like seeing the brutal side of nature, but it'd be hypocritical of me to hate on carnivorous animals like herons for being carnivorous animals. My previous comments seem very immature as I wrote them when I was literally 12, but the point I was trying to make was that hating on carnivorous animals is ludicrous. We humans are no better. We often place ourselves on this sort of pedestal above other species. Sure, we are more advanced, and our species has come an amazingly long way. But we owe a lot to our planet as we have immensely taken a toll on it. However, there is still hope! You should try to be more open-minded when it comes to the natural world around you. Good day!
Essa ave é uma evolução dos antepassados pterodactilos em miniatura e sem dentes, comem tudo que pode engolir, os filhotes maiores comem mais que os menores.
Heron rarely kill their young, this usually out of desperation to save the rest of the chicks and to remove terminally ill or dead offspring. You shouldn't assume an animal is evil because it did something immoral or extreme.
Usually heron parents let the chicks battle it out among themselves and if one or more gets killed / pushed out of the best, oh well! Fewer beaks to feed.

Could never be a Heron mum, nope talk about someone poking your eye out....
They act much like my children did. Haha.
For your dining pleasure a puked up half digested gopher. Bon apetit.
Nice, but zoomed in too closely. Not only out of frame, especially at the beginning, but the lens did not handle the detail well.
Their metal haircut
If I've hun dreading a.d. 8? Yes I've got. Now 19 plus.
at least I know where my koi are now
Four of such big chicks......that must've taken a whole bunch of fish and rodents.......
It would. In some languages, a tall person (I'm 6'2") is nicknamed 'heron'. Consequently I love these birds.
if you could raise the camera a little would be good.....
THis is the bird that doesnt have a skill in feeding and the camera as well.
