- George Saunders and Karen Russell shared the stage for the first time on January 16th at the JCCSF. Judson True did a superb job moderating the discussion which ranged from creative process and writing styles, to when they decided they wanted to be writers, teaching, and family. Some profound insights from the master Saunders and ethereal quotes from the delightful and delighted Russell.
Great exchange. Nice to see that these great writers are such down-to-earth, normal people and not high-brow proselytizing moralists.
Wonderful conversation Karen and George! Thank you!
"Send me a fart joke, Oh Lord."
Thanks for posting -- it was VERY educational!

Yikes. A deep reminder few novelists speak in an engaging fashion. And Ms. Russell really needs to stop tittering all the time. Does she not hear herself at these events.
Ultimately disturbing. We need less about these 'personalities' and more of their thoughts on the world.
+Baby Irene A nervous tick (tittering) is definitely a valid reason to be considered "disturbing."
Funny how you can be both brilliant and a bore. These are engaging writers. And maybe just a little bit self-important on the public stage. In other words, human. It's interesting how many 'fans' have issues with that.
+Baby Irene Too bad--you should've actually watched the conversation instead of applying the American Idol-level criticism you grew up on!
Ah, but she's so cute.
Also, they aren't necessarily comfortable being on the public stage.
They have to come up with things to say, sometimes not within their comfort zone. However, I like and understand their comments.
