  • Finally getting to do some initial tests of a selection of propellers. I will probably add some cupping to the 13p stainless prop that performed best and re-test.

    So, I guess the 13p stainless is the winner by a small margin over the aluminum propeller. It would have been interesting though to see the fourblade in 12p.

      @25hpboatracerman  2 роки тому +1

      Hi mate,
      Yeah the 13p stainless is the winner by a fair bit because the propeller doesn’t loose grip during turns, the 13p alloy prop has bad cavitation during turns.
      I will probably add some extra cupping to the stainless prop and may see more top end speed.
      cheers and thanks 🙏

    great video, just wondering what type of work you've done with four blade power tech propellers ?? how you trialed 9 and 10 inches ?? if so, what do you recommend for shaping and do you have any videos on modifying them ??

      Hi Mate,
      I haven’t done much with the 4 blade PowerTechs other than that 9 pitch I tried in the video. 9 and 10 pitch are not enough pitch for a normal aluminum boat. those propellers are more suited to an inflatable surf rescue boat.

    Will adding an inch pitch to a 2.5 HP Suzuki increase speed ? All other parameters being equal.

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  26 днів тому +2

      Hi Champ,
      Unfortunately adding pitch to a 2.5hp most likely will not add any speed. It may well just load the motor more and loose speed.
      Very hard with the tiny hp motors to get more speed as the speed they produce stock is so low so even adding 10% you still don’t notice. Adding 10% speed to a motor that is doing 40mph you do notice.

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Mate,
      It really depends on what boat it’s on and how heavy that boat is plus what rpm you are getting with the 7.5 pitch. Sometimes the lower pitch props are quicker top end because they allow the motor to spin up to max rpm plus quicker up onto the plane.
      If your motor is over-revving then yes step up to 8:5 pitch for sure. I am always up for just trying to see if it works better too.

      I would not be worried at all about bow rising if you are going forward steer, the rake will probably be a good thing.
      I am not sure that the ballistic props are much different in rake than the SRA.

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  Рік тому +1

      Hi mate,
      Maybe but maybe not.
      It depends on what boat it’s on and how heavy the setup is, how many revs your doing at full throttle with the 9p.
      Prop pitch is a bit like changing gears in a car but the car is going up a hill (because of a boats drag)
      9p might be the perfect gear but 11p might make the motor struggle and slow the revs so much that you loose speed.
      In saying that I always like to try props out so see what performance difference they have but going from a 9 to an 11 on a 15hp unless it is over revving may be a bit much.
      Also keep in mind if you raise pitch you will have a slower take off too.
      Cheers 🍻

      I am 80kgs, sit in the starboard stern and have a 12 liter fuel tank port stern, if I was heavier it may change things but I’m sure I would position things to suit.

    Yes I would have liked to see 13p 4 blades prop because your boat was very light. That one may have been the fastest. I think you should keep the diameter the same and go up 1 pitch and down one pitch. I think the motor could have used one pitch up it was going very easily at that pitch. Your boat is a skimmer

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  2 роки тому +1

      Hi mate,
      Yeah the stock alloy does cavitate a fair bit hey. I personally have not tried the solas props on the 30hp but from the look of them they don’t have much of a rake compared to the SRA PowerTech whether that’s a good thing or not? Normally more rake less cavitation.
      As for pitch it’s a hard one as each prop manufacturer will be slightly different. Unfortunately the best way is to try them (so hard I know) and a PowerTech will work better on some hulls and the solas better on others.
      Please keep me posted on your results mate, would be very interested to hear your thoughts.

    Great video gives you an idea how different pitches affect performance, I am thinking of going from a 13 pitch to an 11 with my 25hp Mercury because it's not getting on plane if it's loaded with a lot weight and/or at high altitude it already has electric trolling motor with batteries, floor ect then with a heavy passenger it's too much is there any danger of the motor overreving if you go too small with the pitch?

    • @25hpboatracerman
      @25hpboatracerman  Рік тому +1

      Hi mate, cheers.
      If your boat is battling to get on the plane with the 13p then you should have no issues with the 11p over revving.
      You are correct that if you go too small a pitch the motor will over rev, like when I put the 9p on my light setup.
      As long as the max revs at full throttle are within the recommended range (better near the top of that range too) then it’s ok 👌.

      Possibly, you would have to try it.
      If you are reaching near maximum rpm (full throttle) with a 13p and your hole shot it ok then a 14p probably wont do much apart from make getting up on the plane even slower, a bit like starting a car in second gear.
      If you have a really light boat set up (empty 10ft tinny) a 14p will be great 👍
      What I have seen on other setups is the top speed sometimes doesn’t change much with the larger pitch props but the rpm at full throttle is lower at the cost of hole shot and feeling a bit sluggish onto the plane.
      But always worth a try if you have the opportunity 👌
