I’ve had the 500 series as my favorite go to for ice fishing. Smooth and little to no issues freezing up in the cold weather. Purchased a top of the line rod for this season. Of course rite to the store to pair a new shimano 500 with my new pole. They did not have any and found out they made the switch to new version.Being impatient i chose to pick up a Okuma Ceamar 10 reel. Paid more for this reel expecting a better quality to pair with this new rod, figured worth spending a little more.Let’s say that reel is now on a lesser liked setup, and new shimano is ordered on the way.Just from my experience as a avid ice angler, best bang for your buck. Love my shimano 500 series. Thank you for review can’t wait to see this new unit in my hand.
Using this 500 with a 4’6 Ugly on #4 in a kayak and its been awesome! Newly addicted to fishing but this reel is smooth for the price. Loving it and catching some good pans. Sorry if my lingo is wrong.
I have the 2000 model and pair it with my Jenko Crappie rod. I run 4lb mono with a 2ft 6lb floro leader. I haven’t got any bad experienced with my two years of owning the reel. It’s just a budget reel but work flawlessly so far.
That the only ultra light I will use for low profile baitcasting and spinning reels I’ll only use shimano but for round baitcasting I only use Garcia reels
