    “Not regretting my newborn, but like... *gear* regrets...” LOL 😂 This is the second video of yours I’ve watched, and I’ve found both very helpful.

    Love content like this that helps pregnant mamas navigate the dizzying world of "You NEED this for your baby!"
    One thing about the corn starch...if you notice your baby ever does get a rash that seems to only be getting worse and not healing with the corn starch and diaper rash cream it is probably a yeast rash which will feed on that corn starch and get so much worse. If that happens you will need some over the counter anti fungal cream (clotrimazole).

    Really great video! It;s always interesting learning what doesn't bring nearly the value that we often dream things should. Really great breakdown, keep it up!

    UA-cam recommended your minimalist newborn haul video and I came to this one specifically to see if you regretted the diaper rash applicator 🤣 I think they are kinda silly. I get not wanting to have “just in case” items but when you open baby’s diaper and it’s suddenly all red and he’s crying, you’ll be glad you have the cream ready to go. You won’t want to wait to treat it while you run out to get some!!

    I went by the advice I got early on to only buy things if and when I felt I needed them. There are thousands of lists out there, and yet no baby is the same. My baby did need the pillow, so I bought it when she needed it. Not before. Especially now with thrift stores open and online shops doing quick deliveries, we don't need to plan ahead so far that we buy what we potentially might need in future. We can get it when we feel we need it.

    My lactation consultant said that we hear all the time that we "need" to have a breast pump but if you plan to only breast feed you really don't need it. The reason we hear that we need it so much is usually because a lot of Americans have to go back to work after a few months but as Canadians we have atleast a year. So if you only plan on breastfeeding it's quite unnecessary.

    Great tips- I agree with all of them! Maybe hold onto your ring sling though. I am a big fan of them but I only got mine when my babe was 7 months old. Its so handy in the stage where they are crawling/early walkers and want to get up and down constantly. Especially great for older babies because of the hip carry option 👌

    Question about leaving baby's arms free instead of swaddled. How do you keep baby from startling awake? My son didn't like his arms bound down but he still needed them bound until he was 4 months or he would wake constantly. I ended up getting him the love to dream swaddles and I loved them

    I wouldn’t sell your ring Sling if you plan to have more kids. Every baby is different, but MOST babies love being worn. You can also get help with how to use it from a local baby wearing group. For the wet bag-try a washable one from Amazon. You just dump it in the wash with the soiled clothes. Easy peasy.

    My daughter got a really really bad diaper rash at 18 months. E diaper paste applicator really helped us. My husband had made fun of it fit as long time until the bad diaper rash. It helped apply the paste evenly and didn't tug on her skin. We love them.

    Sorry, but how is it "minimalist?" You have a ton of "unnecessary" items. A spatula to apply diaper cream? Really? It's a great video to discuss newborn items, but it's a bit mislabeled.

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  3 роки тому +2

      Hahah well these products are my regrets as I said. I didn’t know going into motherhood, what would be a necessity. Also minimalism is relative. If the spatula worked wonders for me, I would have kept it as an essential

    I bought a huge tub of desitin when my son was born and barely used it his first 4 or 5 months. He's almost 9 months now and I have since completely gone through the tub of desitin. Plus have made a dent in 2 other tubs of cream I have. His rashes didn't start until he was ready for solids. His poops can get pretty acidic now and he needs the cream and a lot of it

    The milkies is a horrible design. The case is huge and so impractical. I also got the haakaa one. Love how it stands on its own. Not sure if you know, that humongous case, the part that has the small divided part is supposed to be a stand for the milkies.

    • @AshleyEmbers

    As someone with very narrow and short shoulders I found the ring slings very difficult to place. I could never get it to "fan out" from the ring. It just bunched up which I feel creates more pressure on your shoulder.

    Wait you are not swaddling your babies arms down? I have a 1 year old and I definitely swaddled her arms down due to the moro reflex. If you don't the reflex will wake your child up. So I am really confused by this. Its a known thing to swaddle you kids arms down till the roll over. That's why there is transition swaddles and so forth they wouldn't exist otherwise.

    • @AshleyEmbers
      @AshleyEmbers  3 роки тому

      Nope! We don’t swaddle his arms down as per my doctor and midwifes suggestion. The Canadian Paediatrics Society’s safe sleep guide includes babies sleep with arms up while sleeping unsupervised because risk of rolling over. You don’t know your baby can roll over until they do it. The risk of suffocation outweighs the benefit of preventing the Moro reflex. Also the Moro reflex hasn’t bothered my son. He’s been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks. Also, I’m obviously just stating my way of doing things, no judgement if you do it differently 😊

    • @nicolegerard2907
      @nicolegerard2907 3 роки тому

      @@AshleyEmbers Interesting, I guess it's different in the US cause when the nurses showed us how to swaddle with arms in. If that's what your pediatrician said of course follow them. Mine had the moro reflex really bad and probably would have never slept if we had not. Each babe is different though. Congratulations on the new babe!
