This is on my list of favorite songs… it just makes you feel like a surrendered, vulnerable feeling with internal peace all at the same time. It is a beautiful love song to me… in the purest form. The Avetts are amazing musicians, they take you on emotionally journey that is cleansing and feel good all at the same time….
There are SO many covers of this beautiful song. They all begin beautiful, but so many start to drag half way through, and don't do justice to Leonard Cohen. This is not one of those. The intensity and emotion just builds, and by the end Seth's voice is giving me chills. I hope someday they will play this when I'm there.
Nancy Mattice I agree. His and Jeff Buckley's versions are as all-encompassing, heart-rending as Cohen's. Brings on a feeling akin to a religious experience!
So true the second half was even better. I was there. Leonard Cohen has just died, trump had been elected, there was a peaceful protest march outside the arena. Chaotic times and then we got this gift of hope from the Avetts
I love all kinds of music. From 90s hip hop, bluegrass, the grateful dead and every spinoff of them but this song always resonates a place in my heart. By far one of my all time favorite songs performed by an amazing band! Thank you!
Recognize Real talent! RENTLESS AVENTT. SUCH TALENT. NOTHING BUT LOVE. Thank you for your sacrifice for giving ing to the public. And the absence from your families. It's Much Appreciated. I know those are so little words. But They have to be said. THANKS .
heather b I think you're both right, lol, but I think Seth has more refined instrumental talent, but Scott has the writing and composition thing going for him
What? Seth is an unbelievable guitar player, along with several other instruments. As far as song writing goes, who do you think wrote "No Hard Feelings?" Both Scott and Seth are great.
Awesome job! Having lost my older son in an accident that my younger son was driving tripped us all up. My daughter sent me your Morning Song and Murder in the City. Keep reaching out and up!
This was my first concert, was fuckin' awesome. A big Trump protest went right by the arena as we were going in, they played tons of my favorites, was unforgettable.
I have had various opinions on this song over time. There are many different versions (into to the teens) from Leonard Cohen, as he kept changing or "adapting it” ; maybe there is a better word for that. This song was originally very sexual, exalting in sex , not some religious experience or maybe the same. I have no qualms with that , but I have seen (on YT) competitive high schoolers singing these explicit lyrics and their parents seeming just oblivious as to the meaning or not oblivious. I like Leonard Cohen and mean no harm. And I mean no harm to The Avett Brothers. Just trying to give some information. It just gives me an uneasy feeling when it comes to the young. Maybe this comment belongs on a different site.
The girl who posted this told the guy she’s with to literally shhhhh...then proceeds to run her mouth. Get out now dude. But... awesome performance by the Avett bros
Great video. But the Stacy Abrams ad before the video turns me off. keep politics out of music. Don't buy into the media creating the division in our beautiful country.
Hallelujah! I am on Earth with the Avett Brothers!

I think Leonard Cohen was one if the best songwriters of the last century - so glad the boys recognize him.
This song is meant to be heard and felt in your heart. Love this version.

Jeff Buckley is king 👑

@@amylynnk23 I totally get that.

How is it possible to get goosebumps, a shiver down my spine, and break out into a sweat all at once? This is perfection!
yep. called an orgasm. Its a consequence of listening to authentic music and late replies
the ability the Avetts have to cover legendary songs and make them their own, is like nothing else
Thank you for lifting us up in this time of darkness and despair.
If it don't bring a tear to you. Then I'll pray for your soul.
I had never heard of this band and I just saw/heard them on Jimmy Fallon. Sweet and for once-real music!!! 🙏😌🌟👌
God, he is just perfect
If I could only press the like button more than once, I would.
They are the BEST in concert at Red Rocks, a 20,000 person sing-along!!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!
Impressive! Considering Red Rocks seats less than 10,000.
9500 capacity
I found this band while reading a book. I'm sooooo happy I found them.
Incredible Talent we are blessed by their gifts
Your uniqueness of voice and harmony made this song all new again.
art and music is two of the essential s in life. Avett Bro for music and Chris Willis for art ! Beautiful!
I'm crying like a baby. I have chills on every inch of my body. Thank you, Avett Brothers
SAN ANTONIO TEXAS LOVES THE BROTHERS. LOOKING FORWARD TO YALL COMMIN! TALENT UNSURPASSED!
So much heart and soul you put into this beautiful song. God bless you guys.
My heart just crumpled.
when Seth steps back toward the end of the song, he gazes up giving complete homage to Leonard Cohen..........magnificent ~
Dear Lord. I love Seth Avett.
Seth's all right. Scott's the one with once-a-generational songwriting and musical talent
tracey958 I once preferred Seth, but I've switched brothers recently. I'm more of a Kwon fan, though!
Constance Smith what? Have you not been watching Seth on guitar all these years?

Die hard Cohen fan- blood fan of the Avetts- just found this tears of joy and sadness are everywhere.
See you in June boys with Willy in Toronto
Oh yeah this is what I needed.
Leonard would be proud
Just gorgeous. Thank you for posting this
Incredible voice 👏
Awesome job! Having lost my older son in an accident that my younger son was driving tripped us all up. My daughter sent me your Morning Song and Murder in the City. Keep reaching out and up!
God bless you dear and your precious late son🙏🏼🙏🏼💜💜
Simply beautiful
It’s been said the Avetts have never played two consecutive concerts with the same hair style
that's an awesome observation, I do believe I agree
I've been to over a dozen concerts since 2009 and I can attest to that
Or the same facial hair. 💕
I feel their pain. Same old hair gets boring.
But play the same damn songs everynight
his voice makes me want to sleep in a bed of clouds with this song blasting but yet sounding faded. know what I mean?
Weird how just about every show past 2-3 yrs I went to- a huge name in music just died- from Leonard to Aretha- Prince- Cornell✌️💚
This was my first concert, was fuckin' awesome. A big Trump protest went right by the arena as we were going in, they played tons of my favorites, was unforgettable.
Magneto hallelujah Hilary didn’t win lol
I thought the same thing, Reasonable people love good music too.
I really expected to get chills hearing the Avetts sing this one, but I was underwhelmed. They're still great of course
Brilliant
Good version. If you haven’t heard Damien Rice’s version yet, you have to check it out. He nails it. Comparable to Buckley’s IMO.
a whole new level of love ~
This shit healed my soul. Wow.
You did the best cover of this song excellent 👍❤️
Real. Good Seth. God Bless guys and. Lady ✌️😎💥💥💥
Love.
This is a really great cover, just love it

Angelic
GREAT song...FABU version...!
Why do people talk at live performances?
BunnyBear, it’s an absolute crime and makes me so angry. And I’m a pretty chill person.
How the heck does this get a thumbs down? Who are those people?
Jesus
Oh my God
Great performance...big Avett Bros. fan, but nothing will ever beat the Jeff Buckley cover.
Emily Lanoue 😕
please please cover this at Merlefest or Blue Ox this year...
an honest version
This song is not suppose to be sung at high school Christmas performances but it is?
And this
Great Job .
Ok now wanna here Scott do it. Please?
If I hear one more person play this song I'm afraid to say what I might do.
jeff buckley cover RIP
so good....2nd to Jeff Buckley's version

Almost as good as Jeff Buckley, but not quite. Who am I kidding! It's great, but doesn't come close!
nice but no one matches Cohen's style. Should be behind the beat, not on it, makes it sound rushed. Everyone makes the same mistake covering this one.
