I was reading through the 'No Man's Sky' reviews on Steam, and one of them recommended this game instead. I was going to buy it on steam, and then saw *another* review mention that it's free for PS+ this month. So I went from wanting to spend $66 on No mans Sky, and instead got this great game instead - for free! I'm already hooked.
I'm becoming more and more impressed by what I am seeing in this review and others. It looks like everything I wish STO would be. It's on sale for under ten bucks, I'm buying it!

People are still disappointed with PS plus after getting a fucking incredible game like Furi worth half of the subscription alone and then getting Rebel Galaxy? Sony isn't going to give you God of War 4 one of these months and they can't afford to give you a TLoU every month, plus it would make people who actually bought those games salty. Sony has been doing this right in my opinion.

rebel galaxy doesn't have much value dude you are way over rating this game. It's boring has only 3 sound tracks and the ships all pretty much play the same some are faster but it's better to have as much weaponry as possible to save time.
Darth, honestly it sounds as if you haven't played the game. Has plenty of sound tracks and I've added 2.4gb of my own music as well. The game allows you to add music for combat, ambiance, in-station and main menu. Also, the ship you choose defines your style of combat. Tank, lure, hit & run. Close range broadside, missiles and distance attacks etc. Engine, shield, weapons upgrades etc. Mercs you can hire at bars. Great game.
I love this game and I still play it but I gotta say something here: Has anyone noticed that Freelancer is almost always mentioned when a space game like this is released? It seems like that every space-sim game of this type is compared to Freelancer. I think it just goes to show that it truly was a great game...and with mod support to boot.

I've been wanting to play this for some time. Looked pretty neat but never wanted to fork over that cash :P. Now after this review and the game being free with PS+... WOOHOO!! :D
Maybe I did something wrong, but I found this game to be rather repetitive. You start out as the smallest fish in the pond, you grind a bit, buy upgrades and now you're the biggest fish in the pond. Progress in the story and you unlock a new region of space and you're all the way back to being the smallest fish in the pond, go to yet another part of space and the same thing. I really wanted to follow the story of the game, but missions had insane difficulty spikes in between them that I just forgot about the game.
In the past I had heard this game being described as a rouge like, but I didn't understand how it was from the review. Did they take the rouge like elements out or was the procedural universe it? This isn't make or break for me, for this game but I am curious.

Nice review! One question though. I have been playing for 18 hours and the equipment doesn't seem randomly generated as you say 6mins in. They all have set stats. I'm only in the 2nd system so it could be that I just haven't come that that yet, but it look like its mk1, mk2, mk3 ect. ect. I have yet to see any with one weapon with +% range, and another of the same mk rank with a different +%range. Lots of other stuff does seem randomly generated though.
+pallenda Per the information I got from the dev parts of the equipment is indeed random. I am on other games now so don't have time to go back and check but there might have been a patch or that randomness turned down maybe

Whats your take on star citizen? I know its a polarizing issue but I feel all of these space games are coming after seeing how much money and popularity went into that.

Id be surprised. Until I see more I am adding the only thing not shown in no mans sky is the interface and starmap. Deep space does not seem to be a gameplay feature only planet surfaces, low orbit and warp drive loading screens. The devs are using the hype but downplaying the game, they seem a reasonable type thrown into the spotlight.
Game make sense and it's fun it that whole idea of such gameplay is new to you. However after playing games such as MMO Eve online or my favorite single player oldies in that genre: Parkan, Corsairs: Return of the legend, I don't feel like this game can bring any new experiences. And graphics and design in this game feel like 2004 level really. Very outdated.
I played this game a little when I got it free on PS4. I liked it, but ended up stopping for some reason. I got it again on PC in a bundle. Now I'm really into the game. I just got the Scarab. I love that ship. A lot of turrets (for the price) Even though I really like the game, I do not like the music at all. I end up muting it and playing my own music. EDIT: Someone suggested Cowboy Bebop music to replace the default music. Yes! I just made the folders and I'm excited to try it out later. (at work atm)
Meh it's free on psn and good thing it gets pretty boring once you upgrade to m6 upgrades not enough variety of missions for grinding credits once I finally got the best dreadnought the blackgate I pretty much lost interest and I haven't even gotten far in the story if you can call it a story. No emotional level in the game you care nothing for any of the characters all I ended up doing is pirating for expensive stuff like robots or diamonds and then blew the sorry cargo guy up and cared nothing nothing can stop me in the game.
Man this game is seriously underrated. It's like Assassin's Creed Black Flag in space, but with more stuff to do. The game Freelancer should of been.

theres not a lot of stuff to make HOTAS compatile tbh. cant see how itd play well on a hotas just because of the small amounts of controlled axis

Because Freelancer was the first to do it well. It's kind of like how a lot of shooters are still compared to DOOM.
