I work at McDonald's in the States (North Carolina). Menu items are most definitely regional and very defined by your area of location. You're going to have different items available in an Aussie McDonald's than in say South America. Menu items in the past have consisted of hot dogs, rotating seasonally-based meats and desserts, and even spaghetti...yes, McDonald's once sold spaghetti! With the tomato on the burger it cools the hotness of the spicy coating. All up very nice & probably get another later on.
This McSpicy has just been launched in the UK a few days ago. As a meal it costs £5.59 which is roughly $10.40 Australian (but we don't have the chicken salt for our fries). McDonalds was the last place that I would have thought to make an actually "hot" burger, but they nailed it with the McSpicy. It's legitimately hot and spicy, but on such a great level. While you're eating the item, it lays all it's cards on the table... "yeah I hurt t eat, but don't I taste great?". Big surprise for me who usually hates gimmick fast-food items.
