  • In this video, I talk through the frustrations of removing the Acty Exhaust in preparation for the aftermarket exhaust shoot-out video I'm creating and what I did to overcome rusted seized nuts to ultimately get it out with common tools.
This is generally an easy job and there are videos covering it, but this one goes into what I did when everything was not going as planned!
Add a comment and tell me how you dealt with this and/or how I did it all wrong!

I have a 1997 and I'm in the middle-end of solving the same problem with that stuck shorter bolt. Here's what I learned. The bolt is basically welded in (Maybe done in the factory to speed install?). Instead of cutting off the threaded side and drilling out, cut off the head. I used an oscillating tool. It may look like a crushed washer or something or deep rust, but I am almost sure its welded. Once I cut the head off the bolt and hammered from the threaded side, a splined portion of the bolt began sliding out. Victory! I'm off to by new nuts and bolts. This video was very helpful in preparing me. I'm installing a Wirus Win Sport exhaust, if that helps.

The bolts are pressed in. I took both of mine out with a hammer. The exhaust is divided into 4 removable parts, I took out the whole thing one step down just before the cat, made the whole thing miles easier.

After watching your video, I didn’t even try to make mends with the original studs. The exhaust system is divided into 4 parts, all removable individually. After the flex pipe, there a junction there just before the cat, I took it apart there which is a lot easier, and took out the entire muffler with flex pipe section attached. The studs are a breeze to dissemble with the whole thing out of the truck. They are pressed in, not soldered in place, a couple of wacks with a hammer took them out, and I replaced both with new longer studs. The Wirus comes with an aluminum crush gasket that works like a charm with longer studs, and it also comes with a silencer baffle that quiets it down to a perfect level. I guess yours was second hand and didn’t come with those. While I was there, I even took out the cat section and gave it a nice clean. It now sounds good and the butt dyno says it runs better. Thanks for sharing!

Could you explain a little more or do you have photos/video to share? I’m not very experienced but this sounds way easier. I just don’t fully understand where you disconnected the exhaust.

Hi Dreux, great triumph! I had to eventually cut the bolts and drill them out as well. Many more hours spent on the exhaust install than I anticipated from watching others videos. Thank you for sharing this!!

Hi there, thank you for the video. I just got an acty so this video was helpful as I am looking to switch the muffler. On a side note can you please tell me where you got your center caps for your rear wheels? They look very nice. I purchased MST wheels however the center caps for the rear are too short. Thanks hope to hear back. Dan V

What did you end up doing with the 2 air tubes that return to the intake?
