      Indeed, she would have made more logical choices. Also, she wouldn't have fell in love so fast with her boyfriend. They fell in love way to fast, in just 2 episodes they were already a thing. If she was raised as a Vulcan, that would not have happened. The writing is way off in the tv show.

    • @saragolightly
      @saragolightly 3 роки тому +8

      I think your reasoning makes sense. However, it's possible that Michael at times acts "extra human" because she didn't learn how to control our human emotions with other humans. Vulcan couldn't teach her that - so she learned to keep up the act that she has pushed them down to a Vulcan level. In reality, her emotional growth was stunted, so as soon as she emerged from that society, she was a bit like an adult IQ wise but a teenager psychologically. Just my theory.

    For me this is the main thing I hate about Discovery. Star Trek has always had an ensemble cast, it was never focused on a single person, everyone had their talents and weaknesses, everyone needed help sometimes and was shown to be fallible or flawed in some way. Each character had their time in the spotlight, you learned everything about them, and grew to love them or hate them, but for the right reasons.
    This just isn't the case with Discovery and Burnham. I've never met a more unlikeable, egocentric, toxic character. Which is ironic really.

    • @st.6413
      @st.6413 3 роки тому +20

      @@ShamrockParticle Even in the original series, it was the famous trio. Kirk Spock and Bones. Kirk is most important because he’s the captain, but Spock was arguably as important and present as a Kirk. Many people’s favorite character was Spock and for good reason. McCoy was also always present and served a good friend to Kirk and foil to Spock. Man Trap and City on the Edge of Forever stand out as great McCoy episodes. Scotty, Sulu, and Uhura had their own moments, episodes, and arcs, and even Chekov got some love in Spectre of the Gun. Kirk gets about as much focus overall as Sisko in DS9. Proportionally speaking. He is the most important character, but not the only character of importance. Picard, Janeway and other Starfleet captains often get more screentime and dedicated episodes because ether are top of the food chain. It’s their decisions that dictate the ships survival. But they were always surrounded by a large cast of important characters who had a role to serve, functionally or character wise.

Mikey Spock finally grows a moral backbone just in time to end the war she started.

She also has the emotional control of a depressed teenager, which is why she cries literally every 5 minutes. @@wlockhart 1) she literally loses everything in the first few episodes and she's spent her entire life suppressing her emotions. Not that people need justifiable reasons to cry but losing your captain, ship and career sounds like pretty good reasons to cry. 2) Literally the plot of season 1 is that although she is undeniably intelligent and skilled she's very rash, reckless and insubordinate. She's a soldier that's no good bc she can't follow orders. I wonder where your claim that it's all in the name of 'political correctness' is coming from though, its very common in writing that the main protagonist is just a little more extraordinary than everyone else bc the show is focused on them a bit more so we see the problems they have to solve, but I suppose you must think it's 'political correctness' bc you're seeing her as a black woman first and not the protagonist of her show.
      And Ms Sonequa is a phenomenal actress who manages to convey such layering emotions with just her eyes. You seem to have the emotional intelligence of a doorknob so I wouldn't be surprised that her acting goes over your head but please keep her name out of your mouth when criticising Michael Burnham - the fictional character.

    Angela Bassett: great voice. Laetitia Wright: beautiful voice. Naomie Harris: cute voice.
    Sonequa Martin-Green: pressed voice, always sounds like she's running out of breath.
    Not pleasant to listen to.

    My criticism is that people have a strong sense of storytelling. When its sincere and when it’s an artificial propagandistic of identity politics. Discovery in my opinion is not a sincere attempt at story telling or respecting the traditions of star fleet, but instead to install their idealistic portrayals of Mary Sue Strong female woman of color diversity quota.

  • @karimqaiser2567

    They should have just made her a regular Vulcan (with no relation to Spock), named her M'Kel. Most of the show's problems would have been solved. It would have just been like "logical Vulcan shows humans how it's done" and no one would have consider her a Mary Sue, because Vulcan ARE shown to be much stronger and smarter than Humans in Star Trek. And people EXPECT them to be dull, dry, boring and unlikeable, yet still hyper-competent

    • @Idazmi7

    Perhaps not - while running (between 2:10 and 2:20) she made 24 strides in 10 seconds, which would make her cadence about 145 strides per minute. That is far from optimal.
