I'm old and I have had batteries that tested well and were still bad. After three times of the car failing and it costing me several afternoons of taking it back in the mechanic finally said never do this and laid a tire iron across both battery terminals and nothing happened. Ever since then if I have any kind of electrical problem and the battery is more than a year old, I just replace the battery. They only last about 3 years in Texas anyway. The heat kills them.

Great point! I live in the Northwest and seem to get about 7 years from a battery. I forget how quick they can go bad down south in those high temps.
