- Barnsley council offer 3 hr free parking on a Saturday, but ensure you have a ticket. I couldn't find a council car park, so ended up parking away from the town and walking back. The make up of the people in Barnsley town centre was as in Sheffield in the 1980s. It was possible to drive almost into the town centre. But my concern is they are like a frog being boiled in cold water, I see all the signs of what is happening in Sheffield coming to Barnsley,
Just a minute into video and got a much better feeling of Barnsley than Sheffield , uplifting to see thanks xxx
Doncaster next Linda. XX
We used to live and work in Barnsley and it was like stepping back in time. Hopefully, it won't go the way of Sheffield. That building is the town hall, they call the pepper pot.. There used to be a lot of solicitors offices on Regent Street, going down towards the bus station as well as the courthouse. I worked in one of the solicitors but I think they've all gone now. They have a Christmas market in town every year and it all looks lovely all lit up.
I would prefer to do more good news stories Myra, but the warning to Barnsley folk is, watch out for the WEF.
@@timawells Sadly all of South Yorkshire are following the plan!
@@myra6087 My Waverley video is about to finish uploading, how its going to get past the X rated on UA-cam is a mystery.
Is Barnsley a nice place to visit? I live in Sweden but when I saw the movie Kes as a child in the 80's I knew I must visit the area some day. Are the hotels good? I like to hike and look at the architecture and the nature outside of towns. Is there much to see? And I love the yourkshire accent! Do they still talk like they did in Kes?
Bansley folk are still much broader speakers than us Sheffielders, but call us Deedahs. Much of the countryside where our pits were has been re landscaped and is very false.
We sure do, its a great place to live and visit ❤
@@timawells i live on the peak distict part of barnsley and theres plenty of hiking to be done
@@rikboswell where's that? Dunford bridge my guess?
@@MattJ1988 lt starts just after where flouch used to be ,
Barnsley people are the friendliest people in South Yorkshire, and they respect the town center, that's why there's no graffiti. I was from Worsbrough Bridge (nickname, Brig) Park View our house was, born Becketts Hospital. Now live in Sheffield, not a patch on Barnsley.
It was like travelling back in town, I have always like Barnsley folk.
Barnsley is the number 1 racist place to live aswell
@@Uk.wildman So what
@@Uk.wildmanNo it’s no worse than any other place .One thing that does piss Barnsley people off are the amount of Eastern Europeans that congregate at the bottom of market hill /Peel square drinking and abusing young women walking past 😡
@@dukeofenglandlol
The courthouse is the the ticket office of the top station which sadly closed in the 60s I believe
You missed the best bits, indoor markets, the arcade strip. Beautiful on there. Inside the Alhambra, and there are hundreds and hundreds of places to park with easy access to the ticket machine
It was just to give people an idea and a warning that if you aren't careful they will reset you like the other SY towns.
GOOD JOB,MATE !--GOOD TO SEE THE OLD TOWN STILL "KICKING ALONG !!--DON'T FORGET,--NEVER EVER TRUST "POLITITIONS"-NO MATTER WHAT "BRAND"---LOOK WHAT HAPPEND TO "LONDON"--ALL THE BEST !!

I spoiled my paper at the last local election. They didn't truly deliver Brexit so will never get my vote.
They are a pack of A-holes !!@@timawells
Love Barnsley. I used to go to Wombwell, then on to Barnsley Town, twice a week. Very impressive.
Its the town that still appears to have a community.
You love a Barnsley chop do you?😂😂
One reason I go there, apart from the town, is how friendly the people
are. I know a few people now, especially in Wombwell. if Barnsley van do it, why not Rotherham and Worksop?. I never thought I'd say this, but, Barnsey has become, the jewel in the crown, of South Yorkshire. People go there, from all over. A lot from Pontefract Sheffield. Yes, that's the old town hall. Barnsley is not only famous for. The mining, but for the .of miners, Dabvy lamps. At. The turn of the 19th C. There was a terrible disaster. Cinema. Was very new, children flocked to the town centre hall.,to watch a film, It was winter.the place was so packed, that the kids panicked. So many got tramped on and unfortunately died.@@timawells
Ha ha. of course. you'd get a nice one upstairs, In the market. So many great cafes in one place, cheap as chips. And they. Used to say, No joke Living in Barnsley''.😄.@@timawells
I went to Barnsley for a change back in march
A small town centre but it was busy and thriving and I was surprised at how busy it was
Yes it doesn't reflect the rest of South Yorkshire.
Barnsley town centre is 10000% better than Sheffield.
I always go to Barnsley instead of crappy Sheffield centre and I live 5 minutes from Sheffield town
Lived in Barnsley all my life and it was great growing up,while it still retains some of its past, alot has changed though with the new glasswork building etc and its great for the town but i still miss the proper Barnsley of old, some surrounding villages are alright still (Mapplewell, Darton, cawthorn, Silkstone) ironically further away from the town centre and the ones closer (Honeywell, worsbourgh etc) are less desirable 😅,only problem is around where i live (mapplewell) developers are always trying to snap up farm land to build houses, loads have been built already and its fast becoming less of a village.
Totally agree with you. But as a SY town goes Barnsley is alive.
The new development has put me off, I don't go to Barnsley anymore.
My village used to be small but building endless boxes, now the villages are all merging into one another and I have to say it isn’t as safe with the newcomers
I'm a Sheffield girl but I have to agree Barnsley is soo much nicer!! 💯
I loved the buzz of Sheffield and the classy departments stores in the 60s, 70s and 80s and up to the closure of the hole in the road in 1994.
Thanks Tim, at least a brighter picture after your last video.
Roy I am showing the worse case scenario, hopefully in the future I can show a more humane future, but Barnsley given us hope with the beautiful flower beds.
You missed out Victoria Arcade! :( x
I am sure I will be back in a year or so to see how things are going.
2:15 - its the Town Hall.
Did you see any planter tubs blocking roads off?
I saw a row of stainless steel bars, but that was it, none of the Sheffield Telly tubby stuff.
A genuine question. What is it you see? I used to live just off coastal south and then low Edges
?
❤❤big white building is tarnall everybody knows that
I tarnall Barnsley for Town Hall>
Next time you're in Barnsley try PJ's cafe, the best breakfast around. The only thing the town is missing is a HMV.
A few independent record shops are appearing in Sheffield.
@@timawells There's a great shop in Barnsley that sells records but i like HMV for blu ray films
It did have an hmv years ago but it got closed down
@@Chadÿdee Closed in 2013.
We used to have a Hmv til it closed over 20 years ago
How is Barnsley like Sheffield 20 years ago? Eh?
Its still an indigenous population. Come to Sheffield.
IT IS NOT LIKE A GOLD MINING TOWN AFTER THE GOLD HAS GONE IN THIS CASC WAS BLACK GOLD,, NOW A GHOST TOWN
Yes we need hmv I have to go Doncaster instead 👍🏼
I prefer Indy shops. I am fed up of all the globalist names in Sheffield.
We used to have one til they closed it over 10 years ago
If they keep out the horrible culture they should be ok 🙏
I live in Barnsley, I gotta say Barnsley & Sheffield Aren’t the same size
Needs more clubs for activities like Art, Music etc
I want to warn everyone who is thinking of visiting Barnsley avoid the Salt House Bar the staff and manager are very rude people and avoid Black + White and Cucina in the Glass Works they are under the same management as the Salt House
My concern is what is left of Barnsley's heritage being wiped out like Sheffield.
@@timawells They're doing a lot to preserve Barnsley's heritage now. Eldon street is getting it's old buildings restored to their former glory, big project. You also don't appear to have gone up Victorian Arcade, beautiful, some nice little bars up there.
That is good news. Not been to Barnsley since the 1990s. @@furyiv
I think they've ruined Barnsley from a shopping point of view, the new market hall has a Soviet Russian apartment block feel and there's only a fraction of the stalls, the glassworks or whatever it's called is awful. I used to go into Barnsley every week, I don't go there any more, I don't go to Rotherham anymore. I go to Sheffield occasionally for the Asian supermarket and the art shop but there's not a lot to go there for either.
I was trying to be positive but i agree with you. But Barnsley is the best place in Yorkshire and NE Derbyshire.
@@timawells I think most towns are a shadow of their former selves these days. I'm not over romanticising the past but everything seems to be going to hell right now. I feel bad for the kids growing up today.
@@joedge6142 The kids are defending this treachery,
@@timawells The loud minority are, the young people I know, especially the ones who didn't go to college but went straight into work don't. I live near a school and I've heard kids mocking each other by saying you're so they/them, and they hate the way every town has exactly the same few shops and a lot of the gamers are really into 70s/80s music because they've heard it on games. They don't watch TV and they hate the wokeness, especially the boys.
@@joedge6142 I am sure the working class hate it, but the woke class in Sheffield love it. I haven't a clue what pronouns are about.
And get Goldthorpe byass reopened. It's absolute chaos now the schools have reopened.
Why have they closed the bypass?
A car fire under the road in a subway. 5 months ago.
Spend some money on surrounding villages. They are a disgrace.
Sounds like Rotherham Metropolitan Borough.
All councils are the same. Spend all the funds within a mile radius of the town hall. It needs to stop. It's a strong labour seat so it can only get worse..
Big iron monument. Waste of our money. Fix the roads useless council.

Barnsley is fantastic I love it, by the way I’m from wakefield don’t bother coming it’s crap.
I have heard that about Wakefield. Used to be the centre of the West riding didn't it? That maybe its demise.

Yeh now it’s a great day out if you like closed shops druggies and illegal immigrants.
