It was an incredible experience. And hear Sarah Brightman performing as Norma, was amazing. I was moved to tears by such vulnerability and power in her act. It was truly a masterpiece.
Did we watch the same show? Are we just going to pretend like she didn't have to talk her way through an entire number while the rest of the cast is sang because it was in too low of a register for her. The Lady's Paying is the song I'm referring to. Either you're blinded by your loyalty to Sarah Brightman or you weren't at all familiar with the show prior to walking in. Either way the vast majority of critics absolutely slammed her performance and deservedly so
Ever since seeing this in July, Tim Draxl's version has been stuck in my head on and off. My absolute favourite number from the show, and I'm so glad it's available to loop on youtube over and over!
I just saw this show in sydney. It was incredible. The entire cast was spectacular.
I've seen 4 Joes in "Sunset Blvd" all around the globe ... Alan Campbell (Broadway), John Barrowman (West End), Hugh Jackman (Melbourne) and Michael Cormick (Sydney concert version). Tim Draxl"s voice is utterly perfect for this role - rich, masculine, desperate and dramatic. Am seeing the show this Saturday night at the Sydney Opera House ... can't wait!
This show is phenomenal. Sarah was phenomenal. I have no idea why people don’t like her as Norma. This entire show is a once in a lifetime experience.
we saw Silvia Paledino in Melbourne play Norma on the Wednesday matinee shows. hate to say it but she way better than Sarah. Silvias voice was superb.

Because she was a name hire - her signing was dreadful - couldnt understand a word. If you like her its out of loyalty not talent.
I saw this show this week. Tim was outstanding, absolutely perfect casting for Joe.
I have listened to all the versions of this I could find on UA-cam, and this is by far the best! Amazing combination of good singing and theatrical performance ❤️❤️❤️

I have seen Sunset Boulevard in different productions and cast. Tim sings this song so well and this is my favourite version if not the best version. You’ll be the judge.

I don't know why Sarah is getting not great press over her portrayal. Yes she isn't like other performers. Her Norma is not a one note crazy person. She is fragile, near the edge, emotional and hurt. She is also clearly delusional. And then snaps at the right time. It's quite good.
We agree. There are actually quite a number of very positive reviews about Sarah's performance. They're just not the reviews going viral. Sarah gives a very ethereal and fragile performance, and it's quite perfect for Norma.
@@theatremattersau could not agree more. It's easy to just be nuts. It's difficult to portray real emotion like sarah does. You don't laugh at her Norma, you really feel sorry for her. I've seen it twice and plan to go again
I NEVER listen to critics as most of them talk out their arses and are clueless!! I make my own decision and judge by the audience response!!

Show was as good as I’ve seen, and I’ve seen lots. Often play the soundtrack. This Australian production delivered in spades. Anyone in Sydney should see it If they can.

I agree but why did they have this show running knowing west end was having a production revival. I was surprised seeing this - but Tom’s performance was haunting & definitely sold it for me love Jamie.’s version of Sunset much more

Just saw this in Sydney at a matinee, was good fun. Didn't realise Sarah Brightman wasn't doing the Wednesday matinees so I missed seeing her. But great show nonetheless.
Dreams are not enough to win a war. Very deep heavy metal intense lyrics. WOW!!! Battle rages on like some Deep Purple record. By the way i never listen this their album. Well, i dont know a lot about musical,s but thats one is cool! Looks cool! Something like looks that kill by Motley Crue

Not likely. Australia has very few cast recordings.
I’m surprised two versions of the show have been staged around the same time, win for sunset fans , but considering they like to win awards or be nominated for things I’m baffled

My Mum and Dad just saw her and thought she was excellent, but from others I have heard she’s not good! But I trust my parents lol
I've seen the show twice now. Once during preview week and again last night. The first time sarah was holding back but apparently she was ill. Last night she was spectacular! Her voice was full and powerful. The whole show was better, more energy now they have settled in.
But Sarah was wonderful last night. I was front row so got to hear her voice directly as well as through the speakers 🤓
I was just about to write the same comment. When l heard about the casting, my first thought was "Hmmmm. Okay?". The only clip l could find of her was her saying the "l am BIG" (not even the full line!). It's made me sceptical.
I think it's classier and nicer to say her voice isn't for everyone, and that's ok. She's very different to other Normas, but I think people are being quite mean about her performance in this show.
I will also say Silvie Paladino's Norma is amazing so if someone wanted to see the show but Sarah is not their taste, go on a Silvie day. You won't be disappointed.
@@LeonorFiniCat ls there any footage of her in this role? It's not a question of not being nice, it's just incredibly unusual that there is no footage of the performance. Granted, her voice isn't usually my cup of tea but l was interested to see her take. I live in Canada so l won't be traveling to Australia anytime soon.
This is nice, but please post a video of Brightman playing her role, as many people are waiting to see that.

Great voice though needs to be more edgy. This piece is sarcasm, the character understands the environment he's working in.
Have you actually been to the show? Tim plays Joe impeccably and definitely portrays him as jaded and bitter. The rendition in this clip is quieter and more reserved than we got live, and I attribute it to the fact this was early, and a media call rather than a full show.
You are right but as the show progressed, Tim got way better at emphasising the oomph, gusto and cynicism. As the previous person wrote, this was filmed at a media call with no audience and you can really feel the low energy because of that. By the end of the shows run in Melbourne, Tim was as edgy AF in this song. You couldn’t take your eyes off him. Later on in the show when he tells Betty she can come over and swim in the pool - the venom in his voice was palpable. By the time this opens in Sydney I think the reviews will be more positive.
Great voice but i was distracted by his arms moving too much, I think it would have been more powerful with less movement and the audience would focus more on his singing and emotion.
The fake/bad American accents do my head in. It’s not necessary to fake an American accent in a musical.

He's an Australian actor playing an American character, so an accent is necessary. That being said, I didn't hear anything that sounded weird in that entire song. What exactly are you complaining about?
You do realize the musical is set in Hollywood right? Joe having an Australian accent would kind of take people out of the setting of the musical.
Would not have known the accent was fake, sounds accurate to me. -A Canadian.
