Always wanted to know how it was done & updated on the spot....Correct me if I'm wrong. But I always thought these carvings were done by cnc machines or something like that. And that this process was an old way of doing it. After the old hammer & chisel of course...This was a great video though. Lots of respect for your work.
So they have what's called a J Curtain now that is like a CNC machine, but they are expensive and are stationary. So, you would have to pick the stone up and take it to the shop to do any engraving.
@@LibertyStation92106 reminds me My Grandma told me a story about her mom, my great grandma, refused to visit her husbands grave. Not out of disrespect or apathy but because she couldn't bare to see her own name on the head stone.
This is a very special talent indeed doing this type of work as I v personally have seen this down and it's very interesting to watch usually take about 1 to 2 hrs to do as I timed a person doing it from start to finish and have chated with the person as well as this is a rewarding business
Very interesting to watch. I guess you have to be precise every time. Would be a disaster if you entered the words at a slant! or something else. Nice work.
I guess first names, Birth and Death dates just not that important...hehehehe. 🤣🤣 Yes, that is a joke, I understand why only the last name was there folks... 👌
Holy Smokes !! I didn't realize.... 😮
Just have to have a little patience.
Takes very precise work and measurements!! Awesome!
Yes it does, you can't erase it and start over.
This was VERY interesting!!!!! Thank You for sharing this video .
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your welcome!
Great job
Very nice video.😊
Thank you! I'll be adding more videos as I get time to edit them.
Lot more details than I thought, quite an artist.
Thank you! It's all in the details.
Great video..Like to know a little more about your setup
@kidred843 For making the mask, I use a gerber 15 inch pro plotter mounted in my truck with a computer running omega 7.0 for the fonts.
@@DirtRoadDiscoveries1 air compressor and pot?
What type of paint?
If a part of a letter breaks out. What type of glue would you use to reinstall.
It is lithochrome paint. There is a few different epoxies that you can use from granquartz.

Why not do the whole operation in the shop? Then deliver the headstone.
@edwardschneider6396 this headstone had been set many years before the younger generation decided to add it.
Because not everyone dies the same day!

My parents had a double headstone. Mama died first and it was carved. When daddy died the young man had to visit the cemetery to carve his side.
@@souledout3791same with my parents and grandparents.

Very interesting. You are very good at what you do!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thats my name, kind of creeped me out! Lol
Hi, what type compressor are you using?
Very interesting to watch. I guess you have to be precise every time. Would be a disaster if you entered the words at a slant! or something else. Nice work.
Yes, it is a bad deal if that ever happens. The worst thing is when the person asking you to engrave the stone gives you the wrong spelling or date.
In black???
Put dates
Why not clean up the sand left around the headstone?
After it rains it will be gone.
I guess first names, Birth and Death dates just not that important...hehehehe. 🤣🤣 Yes, that is a joke, I understand why only the last name was there folks... 👌
Turn it around lol
I've seen this done at the manufacturer never at the cemetery
What compressor are you using?
a 13 horse Honda Ingersoll Rand
What type of paint do you use?
Lithichrome Paint from granquartz
I can’t believe he sandblast that stoning didn’t have a close-up of it to see how it gouged out the name
I'll get you a close up on the next one.
@@DirtRoadDiscoveries1 that would be awesome thank you
How deep is the letters?
1/4 to 3/8 depending on the size of the letter.
@@DirtRoadDiscoveries1And how do you achieve uniform depth within a letter? Eye?
@robertbamford8266 yes I do all mine by eye. I did use a depth tool for a couple years. I've been engraving since 2012.
