My parents, when they were children, lived on opposite sides if the state and never met each other, listened to it and said they'd interrupt the program throughout to announce it was a play. The hoax was telling the public, people actually thought it was real.
In the 1980's, Sports Illustrated published a story about the Mets finding a freak of a pitcher who could throw a 168 mile an hour fastball. Named Sidd Finch, this guy supposedly was raised in an English orphanage, spent time in Tibet, and wore only one shoe, an old hiker's boot, when pitching. Created by celebrated journalist George Plimpton, anyone with a lick of sense would have figured out that it was a hoax by simply looking at the cover, which listed the issue's date as April, 1. That makes this hoax 39 years old as of this date.
When you are old like me, pulling a big April Fools Day prank is easy: Just need to lay face down in the hallway at home... when the loved ones come home, open the door and see you laying there they'll come running up and as they start to kneel down you roll over with a "Ha ha! April Fools!" - and hilarity will be had by all 🙂 😄 🙂
To me that kind of manipulative shit is equivalent to pregnancy scare "pranks." There's nothing good spirited about exploiting the love other people have for you and your well being. I would be absolutely horrified if one of my elderly parents pulled that on me and wouldn't think it's cute or funny after. Thankfully neither of them would ever think of doing such a thing to me because they wouldn't think it's funny the other way around. Pranks are supposed to be fun in both directions, like rigging a kitchen sink to spray someone or switching out a book someone is in the middle of without telling them. Not making them think you're dead, critically wounded, or had something negatively life-changing happen. And everybody can call me a spoil sport or whatever else they want, I don't care.
There are about a gazillion of these hoaxes because humans are so gullible, so Mojo will probably have these vids well into the 25th century ... enjoy 😇
Hey hey hey now. Stop that scottieman2! I’m sure you are a very handsome man, with a glowing personality! We need more ppl to pick each other up not knock them down! You’re amazing in your own way my man. And that is NO April fools joke!
I have been FLIMFLAMED! At 57 im JUST finding out that "Go ask Alice" was not true? 😶 Also, my aunt use to make pancakes on April fool's day for her kids... with socks cooked into them so in comparison... 😂
Have I been fooled into believing something that turned out to be a hoax? Hmm, well, all throughout grade school, my teachers told me I had to go to college. That I had to get a 4 year degree to be successful 😂😂😂
#16 - of course Manuel Elizalde is a Marcos crony so its no surprise that sh*t was fake. I’m laughing at Rebecca saying “That was pretty suspicious to start with…” 😂🤣😂
The real trick is convincing the world that two old men in the dark of night could design a pattern so intricate that most people couldn't draw it on paper
Say what you want, but I thought the Megalodon Mockumentary was super entertaining, as was the mermaid one they did. I get it was mislabeled but, take it with a grain of salt.
My sister and I watched the mermaid one. I have a distinct memory of turning to her and saying "It's a good thing these people are scientists because they are horrible actors." 😂
Balloon Boy wasn't necessarily fake. The boy's parents genuinely believed he was in the balloon. The father only confessed because the police threatened to deport his wife.
I can’t believe people still believe the earth is flat. Also people who only believe the earth is only about ix thousand years old. 😝. Creationist. That’s the word.
Number 16 is a very likely partial inspiration for the 1998 movie *_Krippendorf's Tribe_* , though there were several others like it that also gave inspiration as well. A huge part of the reason why no one wants to claim it is based on a true story stems from the fact that, even after "Piltdown Man" was exposed as a hoax, there were still many who allowed it to be seen as "evidence of human evolution" well into the 1990s. Lastly, everyone knows that both "The Amityville Horror" and "crop circles" were always hoaxes, and those who don't are sad.
#17 You know what else is technically clonong? Identical twins. Their cells split after fertilization, thus being copies of the same egg and sperm DNA. They both have their own "souls," so immortality through cloning makes no sense. Your clone is literally another individual "pseudo-twin sibling."
Cloning and immortality could hypothetically maybe be connected if you are talking about replacing human organs, cells, etc, or if you're really into the star wars sequel trilogy (Palpatine returned somehow :p)....People who assume that having a being born with the same genetic material as you somehow makes you immortal have a serious lack of understanding.....Just as Identical twins aren't one single individual, clones wouldn't magically share the same sentient experience...I had frustrating conversations with Raeliens one time lol.
@@nicoleburns9652 Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th U.S. Presidents as he was the only President to serve two non-consecutive terms (at the time of post).
I have a situation that is the opposite. I was at work when everyone was talking about the passing of Paul Walker. I just kept thinking that it couldn’t be real, and that it was a hoax. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
The story of Milli Vanilli is just sad. They were victims of a rigged record contract! What happened to them was 100% not the fault. What happened to them was totally effed up.
What I didn't know that go ask alice was fraudulent, I read it and still have my copy. Bummer 1000 little pieces all over again. I'm gonna stick to my fantasy stories from now on
I was big into aliens and UFOs and everything when I was a teenager. I was one of those millions of people that watched the alien autopsy. I was 15 and I wanted to believe it but the second I saw it I started laughing because it was obviously fake. It was entertaining though I will give them that.
What? No Shroud of Turin? Naw, the "alien crash in Roswell in 1947"? That was just Quark and Rom dropping Nog off at Starfleet Academy. Darned kemocite.

Yes during the earthquake in México City there was a supposed girl trapped but ended being a lie 😮
The scariest thing about the Ballon Boy incident is that any parent would name their child "Falcon"
Worst hoax of all time: I thought "Full House" was gone for good after the 90s!
#1 wasn't meant as a hoax. People just freaked out, having missed the beginning that said it was a play.
Yeah it makes no sense to have that one on this list at all while excluding things such as the McDonald's Monopoly game and Trump University.
My parents, when they were children, lived on opposite sides if the state and never met each other, listened to it and said they'd interrupt the program throughout to announce it was a play. The hoax was telling the public, people actually thought it was real.
You got that right@@Gloria-ro4vn, the real hoax was the reporting about the radio show.
I remember our school using textbooks still citing ‘Piltdown Man’ in the 80’s. A few educated parents had to bring it to the school’s admin. 🙄🙄
These are the Watch Mojos that I live for!!
I thought for sure the infamous Bigfoot picture was going to be #1
Do you mean the Patterson Gimlin film?
The Raeliens! I was so obsessed with this story when it came out.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! 15:50 They briefly appeared on TV when anything paranormal was being ridiculed by the media. 🤣
The "Paul is dead" silliness that took place from the mid sixties until (now?).
I always thought the alien autopsy looked fake even then
Same here, ironically it was all shot in a London flat! (apartment).
No kidding. The first time I saw that I knew it was fake. Even the way the "doctors" moved and examined the thing was such poor acting.

And yet people STILL believe "The Amityville Horror" is real! 🙄😒🤦♂️
I got confused on that part.. so the murders were a hoax??
Nah the haunting was fake. The murders DID happen
@@TheConorsmithusa ah ok.. so the "amityville Horror" refers to the fake hauntings and not the murders..
Balloon boy was so popular that the story was in the "This year's events" section of my yearbook that year 😂
If you do a part 2, please include the infamous "Ghost Watch" hoax.

I did this on my front stairs with a pill bottle in my hand and got in trouble 😢
Next time, you're really on the floor in a real medical emergency, and that will just shut the door and go away.
that's so *evil*. i love it.
As long as you only do it on April 1st you're fine, but if you pull that more often yeah you're evil

TLC, History & Discovery used to be legit. Nowadays they can't be trusted at all
You know, I don't want to say it's aliens, but... :)

I love the way you list ❤
Radio stations still do War Of The Worlds and people still freak out over it.
1000 KTOK out of Oklahoma City plays it every Halloween and if you tune in at the right time the news breaks seem legit, especially on the AM band.
These videos are interesting. Keep making that stuff. Please.
What about the surgeon's photograph of the Loch Ness Monster?
A terrible omission.
I'm not sure what you're suggesting, but this video was about HOAXES.
Here's a April Fools Day joke. I'm attractive.

Just proves that some people will believe anything if done right.
Balloon Boy wasn't necessarily fake. The boy's parents genuinely believed he was in the balloon. The father only confessed because the police threatened to deport his wife.
Hot air balloons would not be a very stealthy way to smuggle illegals across the border.
The guy was a known con artist
Well the kid confessed so.....
What about the "Surgeon's Photograph" of the Loch Ness Monster?
Wow. I remember few of those.
I liked that captain marvel made a refference to the alien autopsy.
15:43 - #4, actually, it was shown that those 2 were unable to fake the crop circles when they tried to demonstrate their work.
Why are people so taken aback when someone does something like this.

How about the Watcher in Westfield, NJ?
Those pictures of fairys was just foreshadowing of today's society.
I was so disappointed to find out that Go Ask Alice was fake. I loved it when I was a teenager.
Lmao you must be real fun at parties lol I read the first ten pages of that book and instantly knew it was fake

How about Mexican aliens? still makes me laughs🤣🤣
clone is just a copy of you. it's not you. you still dead, not immortal.
Ok… but what if you had a tiny clone of Hitler? Would you torture it?

That’s crazy, a woman gives births to rabbits. lol 😂

how was nr. 1 a hoax? the radio show happened,
the panic of the people also happened, where hoax?
Teo deserves to be made fun of for being so gullible and acting like he was in a real relationship when they never met
Humans are extremely entertaining ... especially the gullible ones 😇

I'd dispute calling "The War of the Worlds" a hoax. A hoax requires intent to deceive or defraud, and the Mercury Theatre production had neither.

Hello good morning 😮😮😮
It may fool you, but most of the people did not care.
So did that lady have a rabbit lover or something? I'm wondering how many people started to mate with animals after that lolz.
