I bought Arts 1977 Malibu Classic. He gave up on it. What should I do with it and the gold one?

- After 7 months Art finally showed up and he wanted to sell me his car, so I bought it. What should I do with it and the gold one? Will it run after a 9 year nap? Both are for sale for now.

Swivel buckets, console, pw, pl, gauges, silver with red interior must have been nice when new. The red interior would’ve looked great in the red El Camino.
Yeah, I sold a 76 olds 442 that had a Frankenstein interior from a brougham and salon, was supposed to have marron vinyl swivel seats in it It sold it for 4500 needing some minor work, came with the carb and weather stripping it needed, I patched the floors cheaply, put a brand new carpet in it. (metal needed to be welded) put brand new American racing wheels and bf Goodwrench tires on it. The guy I sold it to, put the carb on it and weather stripping in and sold it for 12k. These A body cars are going for more then people are giving them credit for, especially if they run and look good!
I agree. The interior would look great in the El Camino! Would get your money back I think.
Exactly, finish the elco out and part these 2 out.
I'm thinking that Art's car is a Laguna with all the options that Lee said it has.
@@MikeyMack303 I think so too with the swivel bucket seats and console with floor shift. I like the way Lee parked all three side by side.
Fix the Gold Malibu, the interior, wheels and Color Change on the Gold One, I would be definitely interested in that video series Lee 👍
Build the gold one and use Arts for parts. It would be inspiration for people who love them and content for your channel.
I think making the gold one into a late 70's NASCAR tribute car might be cool. Somebody might buy it for the novelty.
I myself love those cars I've had about 5 of them also you can bring one of those cars back to life I love the ole style headlights and the swivel chairs
Combine the two (gold & black) make a good car!
I know the gold car isn't a bigger dollar car, but I'd certainly watch a video series on you building it. I know you could put it together for not much money between the two but of course there is the labor. At least with those wide haunches you could fit wide tires and wheels and make it look tough.
Mr. B. Here ! 👀👀👍👍 I agree with the other viewers take and make one really good car ! Two cars one killer car can come out ! 🚗🚗
Underrated year of the malibu in my opinion. I love them myself
If you do it fix up the gold one with the parts from the car you bought from Art like the electric windows maybe the dash with gauges and interior. Then sell off the parts you don't use and junk Arts old car for scrap. It sounds like the motors are good so you can keep the one from the gold car for an upcoming project put Arts 350 in the gold car. Do it as you have time then sell it.
It cant be easy doing everything one handed, appreciate you taking us along for the ride Lee
Thanks
Steering column in the GM cars in the 70s had a button on the left side of the column to release the key back to the off position. Black button to push in while turning the key to off. Not saying that's the problem but I hated that feature. Good luck Lee! It was part of the steering wheel lockout function
And maybe the shifter linkage isn't all the way into park on the trasmission.
Spray the shifter linkage underneath & by the master cylinder(or disconnect and try key)
that's not it, watch next video on the 78 el camino where I fix it
Build one on the channel and flip the other, the Smog and Malaise Era cars are a popular build for daily driver/cruise-in/cars and coffee cars because they are cheap to buy and most of them had 305 or 350's in them so they are cheap to build.
build a killer malibu out of the two of them mate 🙏🏻
I would either use interior etc to fix up the gold malibu or just a thought.....put the buckets, steering column, console, gauges, and craigers on the red elcamino keep it and sell the 2 malibus as a package!! That would really make the red elcamino something special then. If memory serves me correctly i think you could get the buckets and console in the elcamino from factory but dont rember for sure lol. Just my thoughts/opinions lee but you do what you want there yours.
I think you should use the black one as parts for the gold one. The gold one has not been sitting as long as the black one. Colonade bodies don't hold up too well. They are not as attractive as the 64-72 or 78-83. I have a 73 4dr. Lots of rust.
Love the old cragars
Use the 350 in your white El Camino if the 305 is NO Good.
Part it out.
Gotta agree with James put the interior in the elco.
I would put the Cragers on the 72 Nova, the better of the V8s and tranny too. Looks like the V8s also have the correct brackets and stuff to start adding AC and power steering to the Nova if it doesn't already have them.
Use what is left of the two Malibus to make one. As others have stated, not a high dollar car but I would watch the videos of you combining the two to make one decent car. Art's interior in the gold one and whatever else you can use without spending too much $$.
Build it ! You can definitely make some money in parts but would take awhile . Built it over time and record the progress
Put the cravats on the el camino, and build both malibus. There’s a big dollar on these. It’s coming up, they’re coupes.
Make it into a retro NASCAR Build weld back, windows up and aero front and rear ! Fab a roll-bar and add numbers on the side would bring more money this way!
Take all of the interior out and swap them with the gold one. It would be worth it. Plus, it would be great to view the progress on your videos. You can sell it and make a little money with the video and the sale of the car.
I'd build the gold one and sell the rest of the parts.
Not many of those around build one. Use this one and the gold one
I like those cars. I drove a 76 GMC sprint in college. Still got the rusty body. Id use Art's car to build the gold one. If you were in SC id be trying to get all 3 of them.
Take the 2 and build one. Art is your friend, let him see you do something good with it
Exactly.
Brother the business decision, sale them and recoup the monies for the El Camino SS or Z28. Looking forward to the next build.
Use it for parts, Fix the heater/defrost/ AC on the El Camino , if you can. to much rust on malibu . love your videos.. jc.
Great video!!!! the moter in the gold malabu sounds great!!! I would Part out the black one and put the wheels on the gold one and if the moter is ok in the black one pull it and put it in the gold one and sell it
The Cragar wheels would look good on the gold one
Excited to see what else you got coming in
tomorrow!
Definitely build one using one and sell it for profit. The late 70s cars are starting to pull some decent numbers. I had a 76 442, with a 350 and sold it cheap but the guy I sold it to turned around and got 12k for it.
Talk about being pissed. All he did was put the new carburetor on it that I sold the car with and put the weather stripping around the doors which came with car aswell. I just gave up on it cause I got hard up for cash
@@relentless816 70s cars will be like gold soon
Bought a '69 Dart Swinger back in May, over by Fort Worth. It came from central, west Texas. Hasn't run since the very early '80's, but has a '68 Road Runner powertrain in place of the 340 powertrain (with all factory BB Dart pieces to put it in place). Your $1500 ask for the gold car isn't crazy or out-of-place. I gave about $6K for that Swinger
Lee, sell them both as a package deal and move on to the next project.
I like those cars. Can't save them all....
If you’re not really in love with them then spend your valuable time on projects you like more. Make someone a package deal on both cars and let them make one good one out of the two. You got lots of better projects on your list already.
I would tear out both drive trains, swivel seats and dash, gauges, wheels from the black one and then sell the both for rollers.
I keep thinking these cars will start to come around. There's less and less of the late 60's early 70's cars and the prices are to high. So these are starting to get a second look now. The trouble is find decent ones.
Those glass fuel filters are only good for burning your vehicle down💥
I'd love 2 have the 2 of them make 1 Bad Ass machine! U could do the same use the Black 1 as a donor
fix the gold one up will.make for a great video series
It all comes down to value if you want to resale.
If nothing else, you have 2 Chevy engines and transmissions that you can put into something else.
true
Definitely part it out and keep the parts for a future car or build the gold one. Your call. It has a good drive train you could use down the road. Lots of cool options can be used in another car. It’s not worth fixing the body.
I know what you're thinking Lee regarding Art's car. Total frame-off disassembly, acid-dipping body and frame, complete rotisserie restoration to a Concours D'Elegance Pebble Beach standard. Am I right????
hardly..lol
art s wheels would look great on your nomad
Part out for gold car it’s a bondo bucket 👍
gold one is original and no bondo, black one is full of bondo
@@clunkersandclassics That’s what I’m saying use black bondo bucket to restore gold car I watch all your videos I no how bad arts car is 😂 lol
Gold one is nice 🇺🇲Northern calif
Use the parts and build the gold one.
Put the seats and console in the Red El Camino it would improve the El Camino a lot over the grey modern seats you have in it .
Use the black (Art’s car) interior in the El Camino!
Lee, now that is a chevy for ya. Sounds to sweet to be true after setting that long. But great all the same.
You support the building 8 throwing a car away or parking it out or to bring it to the landfill anything's better than that because there's not a lot of them left at least not where I'm from
Build the gold one ss clone🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧
Waylon Wires Old Iron has the same ignition problem as the ElCo and your Malibu., He cant move the key and cant shut it off. He mentions it and shows the part to repair it in his latest video. Unfortunately his beautiful sq. body falls off his lift but he has the original column out and shows the problem. Its a broken nylon gear/rod looking deal. He has also mentioned and showed the part in a more recent video too, maybe a month ago. He says the column has to come all the way out of the vehicle to repair it.
I just watched it. Looked like he didn't have it in park as his shifter was in neutral. Anyway, not the same problem as mine. I fixed it in the el camino, watch video coming up.
I built circle track cars from them back in the day, less expensive than Camaro and Nova... keep two engines and transmissions part the rest..
That's usually in the column that's usually that top neck of the collar that's gotta groove or in it and if you look at it You can CHANGE the Ignition and for a while it'll work but it will screw up again so that's something You Want To keep by James adopt top color at least Check it for the wear mark that be a groove Warrior and will not pull that cheese lock and cylinder out speak finger in their new feelings
The kitties are neater than the old Malibu.
Black car for parts...Build the tan one....Use the motor for the El Camino....
My dad use to say that back in early 1970 they dont know their ass from.a hole in the ground lol 🇺🇲
Use it yo build the gold one
Part it out ! How do you want for the buckets center console and gauges
750
I hated these cars but..as i got older ..i got to liking them .they are roomie lots of trunk space.what to do?id fix up the other one and put the interior and fat cragers on it you got black?paint...shoot it...besides that..the cats really are your biggest fans...lol...peace
Swivel buckets console cool car maybe someone can make one out of two do a bogo .
Do the gold one the black ones so rotted out not worth it or take what u need from both motor drive train wise an interior for other projects an just part out the rest
You can probably soak the ignition switch in some wd40 just spray it down real good a few times a day for a couple days and it might free up my switch done the same thing and I sprayed it with wd40 a few times and it freed right up
Repaint it gold, put the red interior from the black one, and sell it for $9500.
you a buyer?
@clunkersandclassics no i am not a buyer but on Facebook market place those cars are in demand.
Put the interior of the black car into the red El Camaino. Then part out the 2 cars .
Most of them aren’t much, only a SS 350 ,or 454-4spd - low miles- Laguna, LS3 454 . NASCAR used their body style for years. Everyone wants a 64-72 or a 78-87 G body style. Body parts are hard to find, first years of govt choking on hp . They have been called the lost years .
Which means they're harder to find which equals $$$$$ in 10 years
keep those crapabu's around to see if you find a 73 or 74 with the single round headlights and round tailights
Why not put the engines and trans in the cars you have...i know silver nova is a 6 cyl...if not mistaken....then keep the other as a spare....only a suggestion... food for thought.
yes but the silver Nova is staying a 6 cylinder. Watch next video though.
@@clunkersandclassics ... don't worry....I don't miss a single episode... favorite channel!!! Thks for response!!
Put the drive train in the orange nova, pull wheels off, part out the rest or sell it with the gold one….that’s just my thoughts????
They're worth more then youre giving them credit for especially if you put nice headers, exhaust, 4 barrel and a small cam in it. It eould sell for 8500 easily
My first car 😢.
But you've got 2 cars there with motors and transmissions you could tell how to want and use the opposite one or you could use the opposite 1 in tseventy 8 El Camino that you're fixing the build that's what I don't know if that motors were the damn or not
If that black car was in good shape I like it more than anything else on the lot but that's just me
it's a rotten mess
Also put the Craigers on the El Camino.
I think I might but tires are 10 years old.
How much for the top metal radiator cover and the ac lines from the black or gold one plus delivery cost to B71 1BE in the UK
Just tap the key with a hammer. It's worked many times for me.
I tried visegrips, didn't work.
Pull the driveline and put it in the old Mercedes
haha
Sell both as package someone will make one car from
I would if the price is right but people don't want to pay much for them
Too bad Art's car is so rotted. I have been looking for a good (descent) one of those to fix up. Do you know if that is a real Laguna? All those options are pointing to it!
not a Laguna
Can you put the 2 cars together & make one good one from the two??
I could but is it worth the time and money?
@@clunkersandclassics 100% it is. We're talking about your friend's car. Can you put a price on friendship? Especially as we get older......It's a one owner car who just happens to be your buddy. You are an up and coming youtuber that's probably going to become famous. The story itself will bring a premium.
@@fawkyoufromjones I doubt I'll be a famous youtuber since I don't dance or crack enough jokes. If I could make enough money from youtube to pay for the build I might consider it. I'll need about 50,000 more people to watch the videos to do that.
Sell them as a package deal.
easier said than done
Save yourself the headache and part it out.
Hawaiian Tropic clone from Cannon ball run.
Put the seats and console in the red 76 Elcameo
I would if Art had been over a few months ago and sold me the car. Don't know if I want to do it now.
@@clunkersandclassics I understand what u mean
Sell them while they are worth something
Fix the gold car use other for parts
Build the gold
How old is Art
Use it for parts build the other one for as cheap as you can and try to make money off it as a fixer upper
Build it
hi would you sell me the back seat and i love all three cars your vidos are the best
sell all 3 package deal
Fix the gold one
Part it out
The GM Collonade A body series of 73-77 never gets the value of the earlier 64-72 cars. They never will either.
Ya they will. 70s kids are starting to accumulate wealth and these are the cars they grew up around so they'll pay good money to ride around in one again. They'll pay crazy money in 10 years.
@@fawkyoufromjones no , that’s just like my Vmx bike friends losing $ on 1981 Hondas and 1982 Yamahas - they were tubs of shit whether you wanted to admit it or not . Earlier and later models secure more value . Same with A/G body GM cars. As far as fans of them , I was born in 68 and we’ve never wielded any notable influence at all nor will we ever. He’s smart to not invest much in these cars that struggle to break five figures
@@jamessharp9790 I collect old motorcycles as well. I have an 83 Honda in my collection. They are different though because not everyone had one and not everyone was into them. Look at the price of an early 80s bmx on the other hand. Everyone had them and they're worth good loot now. More than the motorcycles. Either way. Happy to disagree and just add more comments to please the algorithm so Lee gets famous. : )
@@fawkyoufromjones the 81 Cr Hondas had a load of tech thrown at them that wasn’t sorted out Well until 83. The 83s were phenomenal. What I’m saying is that the 73-77 A bodies are like the 81 Hondas and the 64-72 are like the 73-74,78-80 and 83 Cr models . The only exceptions being already mentioned- like a big block car with low miles or a 455 Pontiac in 73-74 Grand Prix. Yeah , probably 73-74 Hurst Olds will have some value as would a Laguna S3 454 of 1974. However , to suggest that a Laguna S3 454 will Ever have the value of even any L78 Chevelle, much less an LS6 or Ls5 - that’s like suggesting that in time History will show Justin Beiber as talented as Led Zeppelin. It’s just Not going to happen
