I actually learned about this in psychology class, but I didn't understand anything the professor was saying. But with these examples, everything is crystal clear!

I don’t know why but it makes think of “injury prone” athletes. Is it bad luck, is it physiological, or is it mental or a combination of the three

Very interesting. I wonder if someone is more stressed, tensed up, and are more worried about injuries if that increases their susceptibility to injuries. For example, it was found that those who are drunk fair better in a car accident since their muscles are not as tensed up. Being relaxed or including meditation can actually improve the course of recovery from an illness or injury. Psychological stress, being anxiety prone, or worrying too much can both cause tense muscles, more rigidity, increased blood pressure, and an increase in stress hormones like cortisol. Those stress hormones can further increase blood sugar leading to even more of an increase in blood pressure. High levels of cortisol, blood pressure, and blood sugar can compromise the immune system and body, in addition to slowing healing. Here's another fascinating study: it was found that THC could prevent repetitive concussion induced Chronic Traumatic Encephalitis (ECT). It didn't prevent concussions, but their neurological damage resulting in such. ECT is progressive and can cause memory loss, confusion, mood/ personality changes, brain fog, and destroy/damage neurons. The mechanism in which THC works is that it provides a neuroprotective effect much like the myelin sheath protects neurons ..it provides extra protection. I definitely think all of this should be further studied. I do think there is also a physiological and behavior component. By behavior I mean the actions one takes to reduce the risk of injury. So for example, if one does not warm up or practice they may be more prone to injury. Diet may also have some effect, though I'm not sure. I will say this: sugar hinders and weakens the immune system, and thus, can effect other parts of the body. Another example, could be whether one gets enough calcium and magnesium in their diet. For instance, it was found that women going through menopause/ who have went through, are more prone to sprains and other bone injuries. That is due to the loss of estrogen. Estrogen provides a protective effect on the bones and body, possibly by increasing the absorption of calcium. The higher rates of osteoporosis among postmenopausal women can be explained by the protective effect of estrogen for women. Some physiological components may be how strong or dense someone's bones are, their body frame, muscle mobility, muscle strength, and how quick muscle fibers fire. Sorry for the long explanation, but you brought up some great points.

I always thought that maybe it was an extension of the way royals are treated in general, carried to its illogical conclusion? Like: They're already treated as fragile, in a way--constantly fussed over, dressed and posed just so, servants to do everything for them, horses and carriages instead of walking, bodyguards, tasters...
Now add a stronger-than-usual (for a royal!) dose of anxiety and/or paranoia, and suddenly being constantly treated as if you're a delicate crystal vase that might shatter into a million pieces if left unattended for five seconds, makes YOU, the royal, think you ARE made of delicate crystal!
Maybe not, but to me it always seemed a decent idea.
And that also goes with "why did poor people not get the Glass Delusion?" Poor people DID have to do hard physical labor all the time, so they KNEW they could and that their bodies weren't fragile! (Except the occasional poor person who _was_ , due to some illness or genetic problem.) But if you're treated like a cupcake on display and carried and driven everywhere...

Can we not say that glass delusion is simply somatic delusion that we experience in schizophrenia, and has to do with social anxiety the patient encounters as a result of the disorder?
