The double points thing is a taxi cab series gimmick that Indycar doesn't need.

You're right except they stole it from F1, not Nascar

I'd rather that over the stupid final 4 thing in NASCAR

Steve Olliff I haven't seen F1 do double points, but only have been watching since mid 90’s. When did they do this?

F1 had the double points for the saison finale in 2014. However, in that year Hamilton was so far ahead that it didn't make a difference. Since basically everybody (teams, drivers, reporters, majority of the fans, etc...) agreed that it was a terrible idea, mostly because it was inherently unfair, they dropped it again for 2015.
As a reaction to the F1 rules change Indycar also adopted double points in 2014, however they did it for all 500 mile races (Indy, Pocono and Fontana), and it "just so happened" that one of those was the season finale.
Most people agreed that this was a good idea, since 500 mile races are longer and more difficult, and should be rewarded higher then the shorter races. Also back in the 70ies the points system depended on the lenght of the races, so it was actually in line with the history of the sport. So most people were okay with double points for the longer races.
However, in 2015 the schedule changed and Sonoma became the finale. So Indycar removed the double points from Pocono and Fontana and awarded them for Indy and Sonoma. Since then pretty much everybody agrees that it is a terrible idea, mostly because it is inherently unfair and an unneccessary gimmik in a series that usually has close championship fights anyway.
But for some reason Indycar still uses it, which means they are even less interested in a fair competition than Bernie Ecclestone. Thats saying something.

Well done Rossi, more than confirming that he is Andretti's best driver right now.

Herta. Herta deserves way more credit. He ran a solid team that was more than capable of winning races had it not been for mediocre Tagliani driving for them for years. Even though they merged with Andretti, it's still my favorite team. Go Rossi and Herta Autosport!

Dixon has to be feeling pretty good at this point. IIRC he has won 3 times at Sonoma, plus the Hondas seem to be a better road course package, specifically with tracks like Watkins glen and Sonoma. Watkins glen is somewhat similar to Sonoma, so this has to make him happy.

I hope JoeNew comes out with the Chip. If Dixon does end up winning yet another Championship I am not sure how I am going to feel about the Series Points system, and the series as a whole, going forward. Racing is about winning, not driving to a certain position. Its not fair for a driver to win nearly a quarter of the races only to lose a Championship. If thats the case then whats the point? WInning races should hold more weight in my opinion. Indycar revise the system!
