Samsung has this feature where it detects if your phone is in landscape and it shows a small rotate button on the lower portion of the screen if you like to unlock the orientation.
can you keep the orientation lock off but rotate the screen with a press of a button when you turn the phone horizontally? I mean when you just want the UA-cam or gallery app to be locked on landscape so they would stay like that even when you lie down on one side. is there a button that would appear when it detects that the phone is on landscape to switch and lock it in that orientation?
You have to set a separate automation to switch the portrait lock BACK to normal setting, when exiting the app too. If not, it won’t automatically do it. Hope that helps
It's annoying, specially when using the phone lying down. I don't like using messaging apps in landscape, for example. So, many times I'm watching something on youtube landscape and when I receive a text and want to respond it, the messaging app will open landscaped. With this, it stops happening.
Or, in accessabilities add bactap to change orientation, so you are not glued to default orientation. Want landscape - double tap on the back of the phone. Want back to portrait - just double tap again.
Dunno what I am doing wrong. Perhaps I have some Settings option selected somewhere, but I have have followed these steps several times without success. Nothing happens, and I can't even find it when I search for the Automation I thought I just created. Any thoughts?
Doesn't work for me. It never turns it back on even if I change it to 2 separate automations OK it works but only if I immediately completely close the app. Sending it to the background and even closing it after sending it to the background doesn't trigger it
That’s incredibly useful. Thank you.
I don't even have an iPhone but this is extremely useful!
you don't heve to use an iPhone to achieve this, but yes this can be useful.
@@EllisKaiXOXOreally?
I have another addition to that shortcut. When the phone is already held horizontally (when laying in bed) it wont toggle orientation lock!
how do you set that up?
How?

Legitimately very useful tip. TY!
I leave screen lock on all the time aside from watching Apple TV stuff
Apple is king of “we’ll give you the tools to do the things we should have done in the first place”
So genius and so simple but I never ever would have thought of it. Thank you
Omg this is like the most awesome and useful iPhone tip Ive ever heard!!
Incredibly useful. Thanks
But that only works as long as you don't change orientation lock manually, then it's reversed until you change it manually again.
but, why would you go and change it manually after taking the time to set this all up specifically so it will be done automatically?

Here before some Android user comes and says Android had all these features years ago.

It didn’t set it back on when leaving the app. Am I doing something wrong?
Same!

Tried it with two automations and still doesn’t do it…
Damn, I didn’t know I could do that, thank you 🙏 I really have to look into the shortcuts app more and find me some more cool tricks.
Awesome, thanks
Thank you so much
Thank you, this is a must to have. You really saved me time and effort 🙏🏻😇

thanks!!!!

Wooow, customizability on an Apple. Huh, hopefully it's not too complicated for Apple users to comprehend.
Thanks
Of course yes!
Real question there. Why would people lock orientation anyway ? I never get it
I do.

I’m not sure if you’re aware but you just changed my life!
what will happen if you exit UA-cam while still on landscape?
will it revert to portrait?

Jes but sometimes not working

Merci 🙏

such pain in the aas, why not apply screen rotate on assist button, landscape mode only barely uses for photos app
game changer
bro you have iphone 16 people max
it locked on the vertical position upon opening. Fail
You have to set it Locked before running the automation. Otherwise, it'll do the exact opposite.
