I just viewed "Hale County" and am absolutely blown away by this young filmmaker's adeptness and insights. This wonderful video has enhanced my appreciation of RaMell's Ross' vision and talent. I can't wait to see what he does next.
In the mid-80's I saw a clip from Koyannisqatsi at A Showbiz Pizza of all places... the images were so striking that they haunted me for years. But since the clip was not credited at ShowBiz Pizza it was over two decades before I was able to match the memory of the images I saw that day with the film. All my thanks to Criterion for releasing the entire trilogy so I am now finally able to see and experience the trilogy as they were meant to be seen. However....I must say the striking imagery from the five minute clip plus the 20+ years to ruminate on the meaning of it all actually prepared me for the entire trilogy. The trilogy is a master class of pure visual storytelling. Bravo!
I saw Koyaanisqatsi on TV in 84, around 10 years old and was absolutely captivated by it, I'm still mesmorized by it today and put it on every now and then.
Such beautiful and deep movies! Really glad Criterion has honored these and continues to promote them. A must see for anyone seriously interested in film!
Philip Glass Soundtrack takes it to a whole new dimension

Godfrey Reggio is the most underrated Director of all time
Thought provoking analysis, especially the Idea of the veil or being too close to something to really see it for what it is.

The Qatsi films are masterpieces, and Hale County stands beside them as a masterpiece itself. Watch it.

Great insight, thank you.
"this guy, alan watts"
At least once in 5 years I remind myself to rewatch this trilogy to keep myself grounded in the reality.
Thoughtful analysis. Really appreciate this video :)
Great discussion vid! Hope RaMell wins the award on Sunday
Thank you!
Brilliant critique 👌🏼
Amazing.
The first one is great, the second just good and the third passable.
Beautiful!
Deep!
Release a Region 0 unmatted version and I'll gladly buy it.
Hell yes
When is this going to come to the channel?????
Projecting these films on a wall at a party is maybe a little pretentious though a great idea
asderc1 welcome to film school parties
Good conversation starter
asderc1 if you’re doing drugs, they’re perfect mood enhancers, pretentiousness has nothing to do with it.
If that’s the case, I fuckin wish I had pretentious friends. That sounds awesome.
But... Without Glasses soundtracks, the films would most definitely not feel the same!
The music Glass made for the movie really added a unique depth. Imagine watching the movie with no sound.
Play well with Depeche Mode
YO RAMELL, U WANT SMTH!?
As much as I wished they would, these films do not speak to me at all. Despite me being a social critic, spiritualist and visual artist. It's weird
This movie showed me something I really hadn't seen before, there's nothing quite like it
