A lovely and honest review. I've seen many journalists on youtube saying always the same wrong thing about giulia's reliability, they drive it for 15min and judge it. Alfa's in the past used to have probems like many other brands but with Giulia and Stelvio the known problems of the past have been resolved, just ask any owner they will tell you the same thing. One thing I love very much about the Giulia, even on the base diesel model like mine, is the steering wheel response and sharpness: it's just something else, you just can't find easily another car with the same driving sensations and feedback.
I've been following your videos for the last 18 months or so and have taking in all of your guidance and finally put a deposit down on a 2020 QV at Unity Alfa last weekend, collecting it in ten days! Thanks for all the useful information and de-bunking many of the real world running cost myths, I hope I have as enjoyable ownership experience as you've had!
That’s very kind of you to say and it’s the main reason I do the videos. They’re fantastic cars. Wishing you the best of luck with yours. Please say hello to them for me. Thanks. Ed
Just came across your channel. I'm thinking of getting one of these once my Tesla Y lease is up in 2026. I've wanted an Alfa for about 7 years now... Still not done it! P.S are you a fellow Irish man?
Thanks for this pragmatic review & I can only confirm your experience. I’ve bought my 2017 QV in 2018 and today (Sept 22) it has 55k on the clock: not one single issue! And it has been tuned by Squadra + the Performance Logger > get this dongle as it monitors everything on the engine/diff/airintake so that you can ride it to the max, in the right setting. It’s my daily driver and would’t know what else is better, more fun & more iconic.
I’m going to do a video on it that’s titled “This car will ruin you!” Because once you own one it will ruin any chance you might have of ever owning something better. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ed
I've owned a 2020 QV( typically fewer problems than the older models) for the past year or so. I appreciate your in-depth and detailed review of this vehicle as you said compared to the auto journalists or UA-camrs who drive the car for 15 minutes and give their very shallow opinion of the car. We done!!!
@@axisofadvance666 No issues at all and something unexpected is the excellent fuel economy depending on how its driven. Buy it...you'll be glad you did!
Can u comment on the navigation system please ???? How is it ??? Is it slow, is it non-responsive, is it hard to use ? How is it ? Because i use navigation heavily !!!!!!!!!
What an absolutely amazing and informative video …well done from down under. Would love to see the Eng Custom install video! Bought mine 3 months ago and still have my 911 but the Alfa …WHAT A CAR! Best 4 door saloon on the market by far! Get one and enjoy. Life is short.
I have seen many reviews on this car. But yours is the MOST INFORMATIVE I have seen. You don't just talk about how fast the car is and what it can do, but also what to be aware of, reliability and modification. You talk about the good, bad and the ugly. This helps alot when one is considering a purchase. I am saving money because I gotta have this car!!! Sooooo much life that it has (what I feel) a wonderful and vibrant personality. And from what you said...can be economical. Checks all the boxes!!!
I just picked up a 2018 Trofeo White Quadrifoglio Certified Pre-Owned here in the states with 15,000 miles. It had the higher height springs on it that you mentioned, but the dealer swapped them out for the lower spec ones for me under warranty/TSB--it looks WAY better now. Green/white stitching, black/ice interior, driver's assistance & convenience packages, dark Tecnicos and yellow calipers. The wheels are the only thing I'd change; I much prefer the 5 hole wheels such as on your car. Maybe I'll grab a set eventually!
Good review! 6 months ago I bought a 2019 RS4 because I thought it would be a safer bet, but really wanted one of these. Love the RS, but I still keep looking at QVs in Autotrader every day. I might have to bite the bullet and change again..
I bought an A4 over a Giulia as a “compromise” between reliability and sportiness 3 years ago. Regretted my purchase immediately because it wasn’t what I really wanted.
A mode actually means ‘advanced efficiency’ not All Weather. You car looks a decent spec indeed, shame it didn’t have the coloured stitching as it was only a £195 option from new. Yours also has the power seat package that was a £995 option. (Power Seats/heated steering wheel and front seats) There’s a few more options you didn’t mention like smokers pack (£80) Cargo Convenience (£175) Mine is mapped by Celtic Tuning, the gearbox tune too so faster shifts 👍 It handles the extra power no problem with the right tyres. Anyone who owns one of these really needs to get those Pirelli’s off and upgrade to Michelin PS4S or Goodyear Supersports. The early 17 cars had a host of silly recalled issues that anyone buying should check have been resolved (short wiring loom, alarm sensitivity, drain on scuttle issue etc) If buying one make sure all the software updates have been done, there’s quite a few of them. Also make sure the battery health is good, these cars are fussy with batteries. Apple car play came standard on 2018 models and these issues resolved so better to aim for 2018 onwards when buying. Celtic tuning also offer fully open exhaust in D mode rather than the squadra dongle option. The 0-60 timer goes off the car speedo so not particularly accurate, just get a dragy for accurate timing. Overall it’s a stunning car and it’s been better than the German equivalents I have owned.
The way that thing struggles yo put down so much power, it definitely wouldn't mean all weather, all wheel or alright. Maybe Absent ( power). You definitely need a mode like that. .should be B for Banner (David Banner). R should be H for Hulk..or SS...sheer savagery!!!
Have a 2017, definitely love the Michelin SP4S upgrade. They are far superior for daily spirited driving. I also have the alarm sensitivity issue, I wonder what the drain problem and cable problem you mention are and how to resolve them all?
Well done and cheers! I continue to keep my eye on the QV after test-driving one several years ago. It was the most fun I’ve had since tracking a 458. And your spec (plus the Sparco seats for me) is absolute perfection.
This a brilliant video, life with a qv explained excellently . I HATE IT THOUGH BECAUSE I NEEED ONE BUT CANT QUITE AFFORD IT 🤣🤣🤣. Seriously good luck with it I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope maybe one day 🤞
If you’re in the UK Mark. A £15k deposit and then get a £25k personal loan over 10years (£290pcm). Good cars can be had for £40k. Get saving. 😜 And you’ll own it outright in the end.
Excellent video my friend. I throughly enjoyed that and your knowledge is amazing. You have definitely swayed me more towards getting one in the future. Subbed and liked and will continue to watch more videos from you😆!
Thanks to this Channel, I've just taken the plunge and treated myself to a QV ... Early days yet, but I can see it being a keeper and future classic... love it ... Thanks for all the good info Ed 👍🏻
Congratulations on your purchase. When this car becomes historic it will acquire value, as happened to the old Giulia which now you have to spend 30K to get it.
Great review, sounds like you may well be from my little part of the world. Just bought a December 2020 facelift MonteCarlo QV in a very similar spec after many years of BMW M car ownership. So far, no regrets at all. Loving it!
@@Back_Road_Hero I just found you on Instagram, keep up the video content and add lots of photos as you go, hopefully the start of a nice project channel.
@@tomhighton120 I have had a few. E46, Z4M coupe, e92 M3 manual, F80m3 competition pack dct. Loved the e92 V8 but not a great daily. Didn’t love the F80 hence the Alfa QV. Still loving it 4000 miles in.
Fantastic video. Common sense prevailing on performance behaviour. Great to learn about the right cylinder bank closing off. This is the fast saloon car for me. Fun and sensible. Nice one. It’ll sit will with my 916 Spider.
That was a great take on this car,i liked how you explained which none of other reviews I've seen covered is how the car engine switches to a running on half cylinders for economy ,somthing that good to know😊😅
Wow my fellow county Antrim man. Youve told me more than all the other QV vids put together. Never knew the engine shut down to 1400cc etc and mpg tax and how the insurance so low. U making me want one more
Great review. I've had my QV for a year and have a year left in the lease. Initially thought I'd be in and out of this car but I've fallen in love with it. Now debating buying it out or rolling it in to a new lease. Only shame is that they've really reduced the options for the newer model years so you lose some nice external and internal features. But yeah, that beauty of an engine is still there and that's the main draw of this car!
If it’s fundamentally a good car then keep it. I was the same. I though 1 year then I’d get something else. 3 years later I still have it. Think about taking a 10year personal loan and own the car outright. You can easily get £25k these days. You could always pay it off early but you’re not under any pressure then. Ed
Excellent informative video. I've had a 20 reg Giulia QF from new and agree with all your insights. I dont get as good a fuel mileage as you do, but 25-30 on a longer run is easy enough and allow for several good 'squirts' en route ;-) I would also concur that the standard seats are very very comfortable. Like you I went with the 5 yr service package and it really is excellent value. The yr 4 and 5 service costs are not cheap so it really makes sense. BTW, the 'G' is silent in Quadrifoglio so you'll sound much more Italian if you drop it when pronouncing. Cheers !
Glad you liked it. Have fun with yours. The mpg test is UK mpg, not sure where you're based. It was done at about 65mph just as a demonstration for the video. I get more like 32-33mpg on average but I'm driving motorways mostly. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please would you subscribe if you haven't already? It makes a massive difference to who gets to see the video. Many thanks. Ed
Great review, have owned my Quadrifoglio for over a year now, it's my daily driver but at the stealership now for just warranty work which expires in May. Love the content mate!l, and love my QV having owned several different high performance cars, absolutely no regrets!
Thanks very much for your video Ed. I've been considering buying a used one of these for a while and your video helped convince me to take the plunge and buy one. I get it on Thursday and can't wait! It is '18 and very similar spec to yours in that beautiful monte carlo blue and yellow calipers. I found your video probably the most useful and insightful ones on UA-cam for prospective buyers; as you mentioned most other reviewers only have the car for a day or two so don't know the vehicle as well as you. Keep up the good work, thanks again!
Brilliant Alex. You’ll be glad you’re on the path less travelled. You won’t see another on the roads day to day and when you do just a polite flash will do. Charismatic beyond Germania. Please let me know how you get on. Ed
I love these cars! Your spec is awesome! I have a 2019 Misano blue Giulia ti sport (USA spec) it's not as powerful as the QV buf it's an awesome vehicle. I really love ALFA ROMEO!!!!!
Sorry it was a little drawn out. It was my first video and I even pronounced Quadrifoglio incorrectly!! I get better on later videos but all the essentials are there. Thanks. Ed
I've been in a Veloce for the past 4.5 years, also a 2017 plate and I love it. Looking to upgrade and there is literally nothing on the market I like so I'm now looking at the facelift 2020 quad. It's whether the wallet stretches 😆
Great review! A colleague of mine her father had one, also Squadra tuned with more HP and Nm. I'm tempted to buy one but still have so much fun with my 240 HP/550 Nm Alfa 156 2.4 JTDm. Far from my first Alfa as well.
Fantastic and honest review, I am toying with buying one, currently got EVO X but think am getting old and looking for a worthy replacement the only thing am worried with Alfa is reliability as my evo never let me down or small electric glitches
Saludos.

Great review of a fantastic car. One of the nicest fast saloons of recent years, with a superb drivetrain and good handling. So much nicer looking than the contemporary BMW/Audi/Mercedes
Really good, honest and informative long term review. I own a MY20 Montecarlo Blue Quad in the exact same spec as yours (but with white panels and green/white stitching). The last Montecarlo registered in the UK I'm told since Alfa canned this colour this year. It's so underrated and never see it on the road - always Comp Red and Misano Blue. Will make mine and yours even more desirable in years to come. What I'd add to this review for prospective buyers is that the most popular mod, after swapping for Michelin PS4S' (which I also did from new) is the AHM exhaust flap controller - open/close exhaust in any mode with memory function. It's criminal how flaps only open fully in Race or over 3.5k rpm in Dynamic from factory. There's also Koshi real carbon aftermarket parts should that be to your taste. I bought their carbon fibre exhaust tip covers, as think the stock exhaust is fantastic but wasn't too fond of shiny chrome pipes. The Quad is just such a fantastic all rounder - something else journalists don't emphasise enough. It's definitely a cut above the run of the mill, ten a penny German mobiles. Keep up the good work. Look forward to future videos.
Sounds very like my own December 2020 facelift QV, MonteCarlo Blue, green and white stitching and lighter colour lower cabin. Was definitely my preferred colour and managed to find one with delivery miles for a hefty discount compared to new. Great all rounder!

Thanks for this excellent review! By far the best long term review I have seen! I have switched from daily driving a Maserati QP 5 to a new MY2021 Giulia Veloce Q4. I tried the QV but figured it was not really worth all the extra cost where I live. It would be twice the insurance and 4 times the annual tax so I decided to take the lower option as the Veloce has more than enough power for me. It is as fast as the Maserati in straight line up to 220 km/h since it is 400 kilos lighter. Interesting observation on the batteries though. I would really be surprised if Alfa fitted lead acid to these cars. This must have been a previous owner changing the AGM for a lead acid battery to save a few quid. I really see no possibility for Alfa having taken that decision. However I do notice that the start/stop in general is not often available on my car, which I guess is due to the charge situation. After driving a while it will do some stops, but it doesn't last long before it prefers to idle instead. I cannot see the type of battery without extracting it from the car so I guess I will just assume it is AGM but if I have problems I for sure will check the battery before anything else. And if a car with start/stop has been equipped with lead acid from the factory that seems like a legitimate warranty claim for me.
Morning Ed.... Subscribed as promised. Interesting vid from a "normal" bloke who isn't obsessed with going sideways on a track.... just how many times do people do that in the real World?!? Haven't had any wiper spindle issues with my car. But I have noticed my car sits a bit lower than the newer cars. And therefore looks a bit better. I,m at 33,000 miles with mine now and still loving every minute with it. And just LOOK at them. Mines in Competizione red but yours looks great in blue, have seen a couple of white ones and a black one.... and they all look great.... oddly enough the only one I don't particularly like the looks of is the Nurbergring edition in grey.... but personal choice I guess. Would mention for anyone thinking of buying the new model with the touchscreen.... Sooner or later you will scratch it !!!!! Far better off with the twiddly knob in the middle console.... I tend to set my music to whatever I fancy and Sat Nav if I,m using it then get on with DRIVING it. Best DRIVING machine money can buy. Way better than any Porsche, Lamborghini,s are a bit "wooly" Maybe 458 Ferrari similar, but I believe they were designed by the same Guy anyway. Plus I can get the dog in the back and there's enough room in the boot for a weekend away without the need for having a 2nd car as back up. Kudos to your wife for suggesting you get one. She,s a,keeper! Ha ha Regards Rog.
@@Back_Road_Hero I didn’t even notice. So much good on the video...I’m not one to focus on what is not working as much as what is. I want to check out more on this car (your videos). Had my plans set on a C63 but seeing as they are longer in production the QF is really intriguing...fuel consumption, comfort, 2 cylinders short of a 458 engine. I’m curious.
Very useful video Ed, thanks. I watched the whole thing and I learned some stuff I didn't know. I am gearing up to buy a new Quad next month and am disappointed to learn that Alfa have removed 80% of the options you can spec! No red stitching, no coloured cockpit trim panels, no yellow calipers etc. etc. the list has been decimated. Maybe I'll have to find a 1-year old car with the spec I want?
It seems that they are including more options as standard. I love the three layer pearl colours as well. The Etna Red is the GTAm colour I believe. I also believe that the spec from the 2020MY is unchanged so a 1 year old car with good options and colour combination might be a winner. Ed
Hi man, I understand your dismay as indeed Alfa Romeo has reduced the number of options on the Giulia QV considerably. I advise you to take a recent used one, that's what I did
So my news is that I have managed to hijack a 2021-spec car which was already ordered with the options I wanted! Must be fate. Misano blue, leather / alcantara with red stitching, red calipers, black 5-hole alloys, electric seats pack etc. delivery in 3 weeks. Happy days - I’ll be making a vid when I get my hands on it 😎👍🏻
@@TheAlfaNut Let's gooo man im actually very happy for you ! Cause seeing all those options deleted is so sad, the spec you chose looks fantastic ! We will just share different shades of blue since I bought a MY2021 QV in Blue Montecarlo with yellow calipers, akrapovic exhaust, red stitching, leather / alcantara seats, carbon fiber front grille and mirror caps, harman-kardon audio sound system, driver assistance pack 2, privacy glass, ambiant lighting, wireless phone charger... and I think thats it ! I actually found it for a very decent price considering the amount of options the car had (which are way more than I actually needed ahah !) I will receive the car next saturday and I literally can"t wait
Glad you liked it. Practical, flexible. At the current market value don’t lease a new one, buy a used one with a good warranty and the remainder of the Alfa care servicing package. Ed
Thank you for sharing that some great information I'm in the United States in the depreciation value of these machines really gone down I didn't think they were tangible to be even looked at but average price between $40,000 to $60,000 on the previous years
Saludos.
Driven the 458 in anger on track, and obviously my Alfa, the core DNA is very similar in feel, this car really does feel like a 4 door Ferrari to me, 18 months into ownership and still deeply in love :) btw, it isn't the brakes IMO, it is the torque converter that jerks, pull both paddles towards you before you stop and it drops to N and lets you coast, the brakes pull it up perfectly smooth when you do that...try it.
Fantastic little film, thank You! I’m considering selling my Z4M Coupe 2006 (which I’ve never gelled with) and buy a Q. Altho the prices have gone up lately
The QV only has a couple of years to go until it’s replaced by an EV. You might even find prices going up further when that happens. Thanks for watching. Ed
Great to hear a non long term Alfista giving such a positive, all round and yet balanced review. 👍🏻. I had a 2019 Veloce and it was fantastic and trouble free over 14 months and about 23k.
Excellent video. A big factor why I bought the 2018 QV is because of its crash rating and its low cost to insure as compared to the BMW M3 Competition Package and the Mercedes Benz C63S. I live in the US and my insurance company is USAA. The QV had the lowest rates as compared to the BMW and the MB.
I was completely amazed by the insurance myself. Makes a big difference to the running costs. Thanks for the comment. If you haven’t subscribed already, would you mind doing so? It would greatly be appreciated. Regards. Ed
Well said. I have been keeping an eye on these here in California. I almost wrote off the QV because of all the dire issues from folks discussing their cars here in the states. I believe many of the issues are/were/may be owner error from not understanding modern control/logic computer systems. It's nice to hear a real world, and articulate overview. I'll keep looking for a nice specimen and decide for myself after a proper test drive and evaluation. Thanks!
One drive and you’ll see what I mean. I’ve not felt a turn in quite so positive this side of a fully blown race car. Just go and drive one. Avoid the manual 6 speed. Go 8 speed auto. Ed
I always thought these cars were neat. Currently the owner of an Evo X, and while i love the car I've definitely found myself falling for the Giulia. Hopefully parking one next to the mitsu will be feasible before long!
Yes they’re also good tyres. I favour the MPS4S as I use them as a ‘wet setup’ on my race car so am just more familiar. +10mm wider all round just increased the dry grip as well, albeit slightly. F1s are also a good choice. Ed
This was an amazing video the other concern I have before getting this car is the failed brakes does that have to do with stock pads or it’s like the system itself
Not sure what you mean by failed brakes. It’s a MKC1 brake by wire system with a physical backup via the pedal. It’s used conventional fluid system and callipers. There’s also a separate electric system for the park/emergency brake. Ed thebrakereport.com/continentals-brake-by-wire-benefits/

Man I get about 16mpg on mine but I like shifting from time to time. The highest was 37 on a pure highway drive in A. And yes, I converted the numbers to british
Thanks for the detailed review. I was going down the line of the m2c but wanting a more practical car m3 but I saw one of these other week and feel In love so it will be coming to me next year for the summer
It left me stranded at homebase once with no warning! Battery and a new starter relay later and it’s not had any ‘personality’ since. There’s a new annoying rattle at the rear but I haven’t investigated yet. It will just be something plastic loose as that’s what it sounds like. 😁 if you haven’t subscribed already and you don’t mind then please do so. I’m chasing 1000 subscribers for the next stage of UA-cam. 👍 Ed
Just checked the manuals and you’re absolutely right. There’s no mention of mode in the criteria for deactivation. Ed home.planet.nl/~jwq/giulia_x/quad/ALFA%20ROMEO%20Giulia%20QV%20-%20MECHANICAL%20SYSTEMS%20TRAINING%20MANUAL%20-%20CCopy.pdf Page 216
So the only way to officially circumvent the stop and start is to select race mode every time you go into drive it. Not a good prospect to keep the car reliable.
@@0PsychosisMedia0There are other options. You can get your ECU flashed by Squadra for a few hundred bucks. They disable deactivation and cat light off, improve pedal response, increase torque in A and N, etc. Great tune. Anyway... I don't think deactivation harms longevity. Worst case, you will have a sooner carbon cleaning, which it will eventually need anyway if you have a 2019 or earlier due to being a GDI engine. Obv. cleaning carbon off valves is far cheaper than cleaning it off the cylinders, so just keep that oil as clean as possible and try to run Group III or IV synthetic (Ravenol VMO is great, RUP is best if you can find it, AMSOIL mid saps is good, Selenia Quadrifoglio is good) and get those oil changes more often than less often. I also put in a can of Royal Purple MaxClean before every oil change or two and run it hot on the back roads for a couple hours in race mode, it's meant to be driven. If you have a 2020 or later, those have port injectors in addition to DI so the carbon won't be an issue on the valves. PS-I have the Stelvio Quad same engine though. PPS-I agree about the alarm. Also the panic button on the keyfob was so often getting pocket dialed that I resort to keeping the fob in a waterproof plastic box from the fly fishing section at Cabela's, wrapped the interior of the box in microfiber cloth so it doesn't rattle. I'm 6' 2" and my panic button is a 9mm
I'll have a look at those next time. Please would you subscribe if you haven't already? It makes a massive difference to who gets to see the video. Many thanks. Ed

Great video. I have a 2019 QV; bought it used in August with 11k miles. I also ran into the active aero maintenance issue. Had the dealer take a look and ended up with a re calibrate and has been working fine. Unfortunately had a CEL a couple weeks ago so the car is back in the shop. Showed codes for cylinder misfires, etc. Hopefully it's nothing major... I put less than 1000 miles on the car since I bought it. Have you had any of these issues come up?
Yes recalibration worked for me. I had a cel just the once due to misfire on cyl2 but it hasn’t ever returned. My next service is due in a month which is the ‘big one’ at 4 years so plugs will all be changed anyway. Ed
Great owner's reveiw. I have a Veloce (2017) from new, lovely car 28700 miles . Not one problem yet. Thinking about the Quad rifooglio as it's the premium Giulia and so engaging to drive.Your review might just tip the balance to upgrade. Thanks.
Great news Anthony but I feel that the Veloce may actually be the ‘sweet spot’ you don’t actually need all those extra horses in the real world. And the active aero is a pain if it goes wrong as an actuator alone in £750, and there’s two of them! Ed
This chap knows his onions. Don’t bother looking at any other reviews. This review will save you hours of time. Well done 👍Sir. Quad Life 👌

I've owned a 2020 QV( typically fewer problems than the older models) for the past year or so. I appreciate your in-depth and detailed review of this vehicle as you said compared to the auto journalists or UA-camrs who drive the car for 15 minutes and give their very shallow opinion of the car. Thanks Tony. I’m going to be doing more in depth on the QV. Ed
Many thanks. Like you I couldn’t find any good purchase info last year when I bought it. I just had to help others with their own decisions. Ed
A lot of people don’t talk about switching to “a” mode and what it does, safety, insurance. Nice. BTW - Your wife is wise.
Nice Car, take care of it, don't let the haters denigrating the Alfa Giulia. It stands out of the pack

I currently own a 2020 QV…just do it. You’ll be glad you did!
I bought an A4 over a Giulia as a “compromise” between reliability and sportiness 3 years ago. Regretted my purchase immediately because it wasn’t what I really wanted.
@@gunjack2064 I haven't regret my Giulia Q 😊🤘
@@gunjack2064 What made you think that a GLORIFIED VW is reliable ? Don't drink the GERMAN KOOL AID DAWG !!!!!
A mode actually means ‘advanced efficiency’ not All Weather.
You car looks a decent spec indeed, shame it didn’t have the coloured stitching as it was only a £195 option from new.
Yours also has the power seat package that was a £995 option. (Power Seats/heated steering wheel and front seats)
There’s a few more options you didn’t mention like smokers pack (£80) Cargo Convenience (£175)
Mine is mapped by Celtic Tuning, the gearbox tune too so faster shifts 👍 It handles the extra power no problem with the right tyres.
Good to see a review of this car done by an owner! Brilliant car!
Well done and cheers! I continue to keep my eye on the QV after test-driving one several years ago. It was the most fun I’ve had since tracking a 458. And your spec (plus the Sparco seats for me) is absolute perfection.
I opted out of the recaros, they’re amazing looking but the regular seats are so comfy if you do long drives like me

Fantastic video. Common sense prevailing on performance behaviour. Great to learn about the right cylinder bank closing off. This is the fast saloon car for me. Fun and sensible. Nice one. It’ll sit will with my 916 Spider.
Thanks Keith. The only issue with owning a QV is that it makes everything else look slow and boring. 😁 Ed
Ps did you see my V6 916 review?
That was a great take on this car,i liked how you explained which none of other reviews I've seen covered is how the car engine switches to a running on half cylinders for economy ,somthing that good to know😊😅
Thanks. I think it’s best to do my own research rather than rely on others. Ed
Ed
Wait, what features were removed and what years? I've not seen this mentioned anywhere.
What do you think you get as a average MPG…appreciate this is not a car to watch the fuel……but it’s a consideration for me. Thanks lots Marcus
Very informative! A lot of videos on youtube said 6 cylinder shuts down to 4 - but you explained it a lot more accurately!
Definitely shuts down a whole bank. Hence 2 ECUs needed. Thanks for watching. It’s much appreciated. Ed
Alfa Romeo is Art in Motion
Sure is.
Saludos.

not Montecarlo blue? @@Back_Road_Hero
Great review of a fantastic car. One of the nicest fast saloons of recent years, with a superb drivetrain and good handling. So much nicer looking than the contemporary BMW/Audi/Mercedes
Couldn't agree more! Ed

Glad it was helpful Kevin. It’s nice to know I helped somebody. Ed
Great video!!!!! Awesome car!!!!!
Great review and appreciate your knowledge bombs lad .
Way better than any Porsche, Lamborghini,s are a bit "wooly"
Maybe 458 Ferrari similar, but I believe they were designed by the same Guy anyway.
Plus I can get the dog in the back and there's enough room in the boot for a weekend away without the need for having a 2nd car as back up.
Kudos to your wife for suggesting you get one. She,s a,keeper! Ha ha

Driven the 458 in anger on track, and obviously my Alfa, the core DNA is very similar in feel, this car really does feel like a 4 door Ferrari to me, 18 months into ownership and still deeply in love :)
btw, it isn't the brakes IMO, it is the torque converter that jerks, pull both paddles towards you before you stop and it drops to N and lets you coast, the brakes pull it up perfectly smooth when you do that...try it.
I’ll give it a go. I know the torque converter essentially locks above about 1500rpm so it must be the release as it comes to a stop. Thanks. Ed

Excellent video. A big factor why I bought the 2018 QV is because of its crash rating and its low cost to insure as compared to the BMW M3 Competition Package and the Mercedes Benz C63S.

Ed

Love my 2017 QV. 👍🏼☘️

Beautiful car, excellent video❤
Thank you. Ed
Man I get about 16mpg on mine but I like shifting from time to time. The highest was 37 on a pure highway drive in A. And yes, I converted the numbers to british
I should have mentioned that it’s UK gallons and not US. That’s about 15% less. Ed
Thanks for the detailed review. I was going down the line of the m2c but wanting a more practical car m3 but I saw one of these other week and feel In love so it will be coming to me next year for the summer
@@Back_Road_Hero most definitely. For me the sound is beautiful loud from the outside as you said 🤣
M cars are more visceral. The Giulia is more pure emotions.
Awesome video, thank you. Does it have any random Alfaness about it? My Giulietta QV has it’s own personality & is also my first Italian car 🙂
What a great honest review. Thanks!

Great review, very calm and professional yet welcoming, also I really appreciate the timestaps sir
Thanks and you’re very welcome. Ed
Cylinder deactivation also happens in D mode. The only mode it's OFF on is RACE mode. Unless you flash your ECU
Just checked the manuals and you’re absolutely right. There’s no mention of mode in the criteria for deactivation. Ed

I'm 6' 2" and my panic button is a 9mm
always wanted one. have an m2 comp 6M and considering swapping it for this...but when in race mode it worries me that no similar MDM mode for it.
Yes. Race mode is all on you. Rather old skool but somehow it manages it ok with the trick electronic differential.
Well done, honest and through review...cheers..!
Thanks. Thanks for the comment. If you haven’t subscribed already, would you mind doing so? It would greatly be appreciated. Regards. Ed
I would go with Michelin Super Sports as they come with OEM sizes .
I'll have a look at those next time. Please would you subscribe if you haven't already? It makes a massive difference to who gets to see the video. Many thanks. Ed
Excellent, thorough review. Can you tell me if you had teh Eng Custom installed?
Easy as a DIY. The instructions are all in English. Took me about an hour. If I get time I’ll do a video on the install.
Ed
@@Back_Road_Hero What an absolutely amazing and informative video …well done from down under. Would love to see the Eng Custom install video! Bought mine 3 months ago and still have my 911 but the Alfa …WHAT A CAR! Best 4 door saloon on the market by far! Get one and enjoy. Life is short.
Well done, Ed! Very informative.
Thanks Tony. Much appreciated. Ed
Great video I'm interested in buying a 2017. Thanks for all the information.
I’m so glad you found it useful. Just the reason I made it. Ed
Very good idea to give us the year after.
They’re all basically the same spec with a few minor changes.
My brother is on his 3rd Alpha we have great fun pretending we can speak Italian when he drives, he absolutely loves them has a great independent Alpha guy in Brighton who looks after his cars.
Would take one of yours over an M car any day love it.
Thanks Paul. This is just my first but loving it. I like the way you don’t see many on the roads. It’s like comparing an Italian Giorgio Armani suit to German Lederhosen!! 😂😂😂
Awesome review
Great review as it is on a short list of cars I am thinking of.
Just buy one! They are awesome. Regards. Roger
Ed
