I have the bigger A5 size one and absolutely love it!

I have two concerns with this and one is if the pens stored will be scratched by the finish, whereas the other is if the tight fit will create stress on the pens even if they do not get scratched… It seems like a nice product that is super durable if the pens being carried are not too valuable.
Anyway nice review! I feel the Lamy2000 is a great fit with the product as it is very durable.

I think it's way overpriced, but I suspect I feel this way because notebooks that size are completely useless for me. I do carry a small notebook, but it's only for jotting down quick notes, phone number, an address, etc., all in very sloppy cursive. For anything else I need at least an A5 size notebook. Depending on where I'm going, I either carry a nice, small backpack, or a military surplus canvas messenger bag. Either holds everything I need without having to cram things into pockets they really don't fit well. Stuffed pockets are uncomfortable at best. I don't even like one stuffed pocket.
Besides I have other things I always carry in my pockets, regardless of where I'm going, Two of these things are a knife and a med kit. A good med kit. One that can handle a gunshot wound. I always have at least one knife with me, and usually two, a Stockman and a Buck 110. I also carry a fire kit. Very small, but I could build fires for at leas a year with it. That's all I want in my pockets. But these things go with me everywhere.
So all told, I need more room for larger notebooks, and I can easily carry an A1 in the backpack or the messenger bag. My personal needs are for a notebook I can write in, at least A5, some paper to scribble on, and a fairly large sketchbook. Then graphite pencils, colored pencils, at least two fountain pens, and a small watercolor kit. I also carry a large water bottle or canteen, a small bottle of water for the watercolor kit, and a sandwich and snakes for lunch.
I know this seems like a lot, but it actually takes up remarkably little room, and isn't heavy enough to notice. I carry a couple of things that are heavy, but they aren't part of my writing/drawing/painting materials. They're just EDC all year long, and are so much a part of me that I forget I'm even carrying them.
I've carried a backpack or messenger bag for so long that I don't notice them, either.

Aloha Craig! A wonderful, very honest review, which is why I watch these reviews. I have been eyeing the larger A5 size one, but haven't been convinced. I think $44 for this smaller size is a bit pricey, unless they work as intended and you showed that it has a few issues. The only Lochby item I own is the tool roll and to be honest, I am not sure if I trust my pens in that thing! Yes, I agree that the notebooks are too pricey - I would settle for a Clairfontaine for half the price or as you mentioned the FC notebooks. I appreciate your very honest and thorough look at items. Looking forward to more reviews. Mahalo, Thomas

Thanks again for the comment Thomas! I am not afraid to completely destroy a product on this channel! Every time I see one of those sponsored reviews, it makes my eyes roll. This thing is all marketing BS and the only reason I bought it was because of the review by David on Figboot on Pens. You win some and you lose some and this one is a fail. But oh well, that's how these brands get your money! More stuff coming soon! Cheers!

@@CraigRoccanova Craig, I did have that thought (sponsored item that other reviewers are getting for free) in the back of my mind, but didn't want to say it, so I am glad you mentioned it! When I watch other reviews, I just need to keep that in the back of my mind and how it may keep them from telling the absolute truth and/or skirt away from certain issues that may be present with the product. I would still consider the A5 size Lochby Field Journal and find that the $59 price is a better deal than the $44 for the smaller Pocket Journal? I'll wait for a sale .... have a nice evening.

I liked the thorough review. I am surprised about the notebooks. They should have cut outs in corners so they fit well.
I wish the pico can fit inside, its a great travel pen to have around.

Thanks for the review! I’ve been researching this style for a few days now. I made my choice, and just bought this on sale for 27 bucks. I am a sales engineer who has to frequently visit job sites and interface with customers. Im hoping having a couple of field notes with this on me will be of use. Thanks!

I was using mine for a very minimal sketchkit to have in my purse. Inside all I had was a Stillman and Birn softcover pocket sketchbook. In the outside pockets I had a pencil, fountain pen, waterbrush, and a tiny flat watercolor set. It was a tight fit and I could wish their pockets were a bit roomier.

I have the brown one and enjoy it. I use the kaweco liliput and a bullet pencil with it. I mostly use field notes inside. I re wax it every few months. It’s my wallet. It’s not perfect, but it’s nice for the price. Might try the field journal or the Quattro next.

That small pocket is intended to hold a USB flash drive

I've been looking for something, along those lines. But it seems to be more of a catch thingie for miniature golf players. The sleeves cut off of a heavy shirt that has beast pockets, and the sleeves resewn onto the front, to make a vest, works just fine. One pocket for pens, one for pocket notebooks, and one for my pipe. Yes, I am a Disney fan and fondly remember the wonderful tobacco and pipe shop on Main Street.
Back to that fancy carry thing. I prefer my Nutsack. It carries most everything I need, through a regular day, even a refill kit, in case my pen runs out of ink, while out and about. How knows? Jump from New Orleans Square to Adventure Land, and anything can happen.

    Good honest review. Thanks.
I just got the larger field journal one and like it so far. It appears they didn't do much testing on this smaller one. I'll have to look elsewhere for a small one. Thanks again.

They reached out about a month ago to have me try their products again (but as a paid promotion) and I flat out turned it down. I’m not going to review products or push anything on you guys that I wouldn’t use. Plus nothing has changed. It’s still the same crap!
