i just purchased this book after seeing your review. your passion for the Artist is crystal clear, and your words are an eloquent recommendation of his works. a beautiful video, made with love&care. thank you!
I really enjoyed your review of Steinberg's book. Growing up, my grandmother subscribed to the New Yorker, and she had a couple of anthologies of cartoons from the magazine. I used to pore over those books when at her house -- there wasn't much else to do inside -- and Steinberg's pen and ink drawings always amazed me.
People need to investigate another amazing Romanian artist: André François (9 November 1915 - 11 April 2005), born André Farkas. A Steinberg with a heart
Joe, I was interested to see in this video that you have a French Opinel pocket knife. I bought two of those a few years back during a visit to Paris; and always have one with me, I consider them the finest pocket knife you can buy. The brilliant simplicity of its design and the sturdy simple materials, a very satisfying object. The painter Francoise Gilot, in her memoir "Life With Picasso" (she lived with Picasso for 10 years) mentions in the book that Picasso always carried an Opinel in his pocket and used it often for all sorts of things. She talks about how she saw him carve little lifelike insects out of the spots on a wall with it..
