So as I've told you in the past, you find brilliant off kilter subject matters , as well as being current. I like the better an far improved Audio..as well as the cadence ( pacing & inflection in your voice).. I would add going even more into the historical context as well as ( the best you can) some sense of "quality... moving away from " Just" listing Spec an putting those item spread out also in context via verse "near peer systems.. ( for example , when speaking of engines " these have not proven to be XXXX~ or have exceled in XXXX..) @@Aes880 in terms of surface to air, probably more or less than what a cruiser can carry. But ship to ship? Even though P-500 is supersonic missile intended to carry nuclear load, it isn't that much of a threat anymore. Back then, maybe. But even then, Kiev class could only carry up to 12 of them, and that's depending which ship that we're talking about.

055 looks beautiful whether classified as destroyer or cruiser. The point is whether it can fulfill its designed purpose or not. Very proud that the equipment of PLAN developed so much in the recent decade, and of course there are many to emulate, namely the propulsion system. Be humble and keep on moving forward, PLAN!

US DDG 1000 is also called destroyer, which is actually larger than type 055. Don't even mention the Japanese, calling their 20000 ton carrier frigate, all their ships are frigates, no matter how big.

DDG 1000 has the best stealth capabilities but it hasnt the firepower that type 055 has.and it cant be mass produce bcs the cost.
It not really bcs of low cost worker,it because Chinese have everything to produce the ship down to the screw domestically which significantly decrease purchase cost , the manufacturing cost might be different

china's military manufacturer are national based, so profit is not the main aim, hence greatly reduced the cost.
If the 055 is deploy near the USA Guam. It is a cruiser.
If the 055 is deploy near the China coast. It is a destroyer.

055 have larger vessels than any other type of destroyers, supporting for any type of missiles which may be a game-changer since some of them can hit the target 3000km away which is bigger than the effective range of the US aircraft carriers (900km)

Shanghai Jiangnan shipyard, the largest commercial shipyard in the world considers naval vessels under 110,000 ton deadweight as small boats . It has built container ships, cruise ships of 240,000 ton, 220,000 ton respectively for global customers . A container ship of 240,000 ton will be completed in 14 months
Its hard to getting detailed data or designs for modern combat ship, especially for PLAN.
Although some small mistakes is made, but this video still has good reference value.

If Japan can classifies their carriers as frigate, US classifies 18000 tons Zumwalt as destroyer, 055 is whatever Chinese wants.
The reality is the Zumwalt is around 15k ton and Type 055 13k ton, but yes they can all call any ship whatever they want.
It's a fishing vessel armed with hypersonic missiles and enough anti-air missiles to take out an entire carrier air wing.
Lets make it simple and call it a cruising destroyer. That way everybody's happy.

there are technically only 1 cruiser in the world, the russian kirov class. the american "cruiser" are not real cruiser, they are merely call that for political reason and since US classified their large destroyer as cruiser, they have to classified china's large destroyer as cruiser... but neither of these ship perform the role of a cruiser. instead they are intended primarily for use as destroyers to defend their fleet from attack.
Well the type 055 is also intended to be destroyer squadron lead ship.
Mounting AESA arrays low doesn't reduce their range at all, but it does reduce their horizon, and therefore the range at which they can detect low altitude targets.
And the reason why the S-band radar is placed lower is because the X-band radar, which is more suitable for detecting low-altitude missiles, needs to occupy the highest position. So the 055 does not need to put the whole radar on top of the mast like the FREMM multipurpose frigate.

the classification is a political question as you mentioned well ... the triconderoga class are actually DD re-classified in the cold war. The new Constitution frigates will weigh 9,000 tons ... and a Cricero is 12,000? where is the destroyer? The Type 55s are more modern and heavier destroyers but only that DDs

This should not be an issue. Most systems are compatible with all the satlite navigation systems we have. So you can use beidou, gps, galileo, glonass at the same time to increase stability and accuracy. If one system is down you can still use the others. This techonology is so available that has applied to most smart phones. PLAN may have adopted this system for the obvious advantage.

Arleigh Burke = 1.84 billion. Type 055 = 850million. The 1 billion overcharge goes to the pocket of the shipbuilders and the companies that invest in them. That's how the US/Jew economy works.
Manpower in Chinese is easily 5-7x lower than Western counterparts, thus, cheaper cost.

Definitely not losing its technological edge, the Aegis combat system is THE best in the world, there is no argument about it. Arleigh burkes are mean and pack a punch. Althought china can out manufacture, the United states will not lose its technological edge.

Naval ships don't know their classes because naval doctrine is fucked. If there's no realistic situation for a fleet on fleet naval battle, what is the point of calling ships destroyers and cruisers?

I always heard the russian proverb was that "a cheap man pays twice", the work force might be cheaper but you get what you pay for and china is not a place known minimal profit margins but rather for there corruption, graft and "Tofu building construction". Though it might be true china is building more ships and a few of these big ones, most are tinny and little better armed then an LCS, while the US is massively out building in tonnage; specifically in regards to subs and Carriers and it still hasn't lost it lead in destroyers in number, tonnage and certainly not throw weight.
There are several reasons for the shoddy build quality of many buildings and other stuff. The revenue and promotion structure of local governments, basically non existent construction laws back in the days and poor oversight, or just the company wanting to save a buck because no one's going to move into that new appartment building anyways, it's a pure asset so fuck it. Hower stuff on a national level like Chinas HSR-system, the Shanghai Tower, or the modernisation of its armed forces are appart from their practical value also high profile prestige projects. Failure here wont be tollerated and anyone perceived to not have done their job will get sacked (and probably have his organs removed for good measure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

US GDP is only 23% of the world GDP, but military spent is 40% of the whole world's military spent. It is not going to last long.
