The following year, Moore would begin his run on Watchmen, a comic miniseries famously dubbed the "Citizen Kane of comics" by many critics.

Brilliant watching this with hindsight, considering what ultimately happened with Alan Moore and DC

Wow. Alan Moore was so enthusiastic before DC bent him over and screwed him...

It is such a shame that some people still think that comic books are for kids only and they don`t realize that comic books are such a diverse artform that has both simple infantile stories and complex mature stories on a variety of subjects not only superheroes. That is the reason why companies like Marvel have Marvel KIDS aside from their regular comics. It also doesn`t help that grown adults go to superhero based movies initially for children just to watch explosions and shallow fight scenes.

Funny and ironic how in those days people thought of comic jobs as 'something to do til you get a proper job in media' yet now millions of people would kill to work in comics, even go as far as simply colouring them

Someone once, long ago told him to get a haircut and a real job.
Mr. Moore is a very stubborn man.

Problem now is that Comics are predominantly for adults, many kids aren't reading comics now. Master Moore's plan worked too well.

In 2023, The problem now, is the Writers put themselves before the characters they are writing. Most writers today are placed on a title to get it through the door. You can tell Alan Moore was involved and knew his characters. There are also a lack of world builders, so much so that Marvel has to hire Jonathan Hickman to world build or fix some comic lines to get other writers up and going. There's evidence of this in the new X-Men line. They get started and canceled shortly.

Probably the very father of comic books as they are today... Before then, they largely were merely that, things children read. Lighthearted and well intended, but ultimately lacking any serious relevant message or covering any of the real issues of the world around us.

2:50 - Stanislaw Lem also described the ghetto of Science Fiction literature, in 1984. It's all relative.
Although Moore's assessment is mostly correct for the time of this interview, there were historically plenty of cash-in attempts at "girl comics" throughout the medium's history. While it certainly wasn't true in the 80's, Young Love by Simon & Kirby ran for two decades from the 50's to the 70's and sold millions of copies.

@togio100 The comics market imploded because of speculators who didn't even crack open the comics they were buying and DC and Marvel getting greedy with their print runs and the special covers and the stunt storylines.

That's not a fair statement mate. You may be thinking about the US mainstream comic industry. And even there progress has existed.
