    I've never been good at playing by ear. I played in a band for years with my spar Si. He could hear something once and do a passable imitation, give him a couple of goes and he would nail it. I came to depend on him for working out the nuances of a tune. You,sir, brought back the memory of how we would go through a number. I was looking for a version that was close to the Scrapper Blackwell recording. Nice job. Thank you.

    I played this song throughout the 90's and have been wanting to revisit it and add some new life. I love all your embellishments and the various techniques you present here. I appreciate you breaking this down nice and slow for "tab impaired" musicians like myself. Thanks for teaching to different learning styles, if I can hear and see it, then I can learn it. I laughed at the "performance version" versus the "living room version", you are so humble, I doubt any of your audience would notice you stumbling like they would when I mess up.

    Thank you. I have played this song for years, but without the engaging flourishes you demonstrate. I do have trouble with using my thumb on the low "E." I have a Republic Parlor coming my way in the next few days--a resonator. Since I build and repair and do precision set-ups, I was able to have excellent communication with Republic's set-up man. We spoke the same language, and he clearly enjoyed working with a buyer who knew what needed to be done. And, no argument when I asked that he tuck an additional saddle in the case. Overall, these are very friendly people and they are invested in customer enjoyment of their guitars. I am quite excited about the guitar. I need the short scale, and the technician looked over all of their stock to find the nicest neck and finish of the model, a Parlor Rocket UFO, polished nickel. It is 24 1/2" scale. I have played my very old Guild D 40 at 25 1/2" scale for nearly its 40 years of life( the guitar's life, I am 74). But, as I have gotten older and having abused my hands, building street rods and real race cars, and driving them and , inevitably crashing them, my hands demand a short scale. I don't expect magic, but it should be a fun guitar to play.

    That is a wonderful and inspiring lesson, I loved it and will be working on it for a long time, but in the performance part I ended up really wishing your guitar had fret markings.

    Not to be a butt head but to maybe help others who may try to learn the intro. There are a couple of places where He says one thing but plays it different. Watch his fingers to actually learn the intro. (I haven't gone beyond the intro.).

      Yes I noticed that. At one point he says E but its actually C11 and then a minute later its C again. I'm still struggling with it but with some determination and I'll get there. I just watch it over and over again. (Like a round robin!) One more song crossed off my bucket list!

    in the introduction,at 1:50,when you slide to the D7, you play the note of A (fitht fret)..but then..when you show it again,..at 2:20 you don't play it anymore....so,what is better?

    Strange guitar...the enormous pick guard covers over the oval sound hole. Nice shirt though! Btw do you do Cocaine Blues tutorial?

    • @daddystovepipe
      @daddystovepipe  4 роки тому

      Not much to explain, it's been done before. My guitar is patterned on the old Gibsons; here's Eddie Lang with a similar one ua-cam.com/video/Q-aF8k1ddek/v-deo.html
      The influence of the size of the pickguard on the sound is minimal and to play comfortably you need that pickguard.

    What type of structure is this song in?

    • @daddystovepipe
      @daddystovepipe  2 роки тому

      8 bars are repeated the whole song through; it's a circular progression aka "robbin go round" progression.
