    Ohtani was criticized by many for being both a pitcher and a hitter before he came to the majors. Among them were Japanese baseball legends, whom Ohtani had admired for a long time. But he has said nothing back and has silenced them with his efforts.
    For him, it was special to both pitch and hit, and he even said he loved the tension of pitching.
    I would love to see him pitch as a starting pitcher, hit a home run, and make history again.

    I agree Ohtani started taking his batting to another level last year. I was very skeptical at 28 years old he found a new gear, but so far this year it appears he may have indeed found a new gear. Do you think the Dodgers coaches and being surrounded by better talent have taken his game to yet another level? He'll have a hard time getting the RBI title for the triple crown as he has Mookie ahead of him stealing his RBIs LOL.

    Outfielder cannot be in Shohei's mind ... he wants to be unicorn and that is what Dodgers signed him for (being unique = $$$). He will pitch as starter for sure, maybe he will change mind and entertain the idea of a position player after he win a Cy Young ...

    I believe Shohei definitely benefits when he has lineup protection. Last year he was intentionally walked 21 times, second only to Jose Ramirez who had 22 in 21 more games and 92 more plate appearances. This year, zero so far with Freddie Freeman batting behind him. Last year he had Trout, but Trout was out with injuries for half the season, and he's a righty so there were some times where they walked Shohei to get a better left/right matchup. Can't really do that with Freddie since he's also a lefty.

    I think when it comes to shohei performing more better, It has to be credited to the dodger talent. Knowing that he isn't the only one who can be productive at the plate , he can take the walk , take more pitches knowing he has other dangerous sluggers/hitters. Back with the Angles it was only trout to be honest , and even then his heath issues arose and was never built around his talent.

  • @berryleung7288
    @berryleung7288 Місяць тому

    Pls don't forget Shohei is still a rehab pitcher, his pitching arm is still in recovery. Therefore Shohei is not in his 100% healthy condition like his last 3 seasons (except fr last Aug '23 after he got arm injury). Besides, recently Ohtani's last season oblige injury came back a little to him during the Padres series, that's why Ohtani couldn't get hits in the 2nd game and rested in the next game. Lucky that Ohtani was back healthier (though not 100% for his back as he commented) and able to make hits every day against Giants including a majestic HR almost into the San Francisco Cove.

    • @solenstyle
      @solenstyle Місяць тому +2

      They might not hit the ball in the sweet spot every time. For example, Mookie has a slower bat speed, but is able to recognize what kind of pitch it is faster than other players, allowing him to make best use of his bat speed.

    Jake is obviously just worried that the eggheads in the Yankees analytics department are going to use this batspeed information in the dumbest way you possibly can - that doesn't mean everyone's going to, or that the information isn't valuable! And yes, the "bat speed" alone is really not important at all, it's everything else they're introducing paired with the bat speed, like swing length+bat speed that you were on board with

    if hypothetically ohtani cant pitch why would you risk injury as a corner outfielder where he might have slightly more value than an average guy vs just putting him at dh to maximize his best and most valuable skill hitting. just to open up the dh spot for a guy worse than ohtani. makes no sense. love bailey though!

    Ohtani is not just the greatest baseball player ever. He without question, is. He is the best ATHLETE ever. He is better at baseball than Michael Jordan was at Basketball. I said what I said. Fight me.

    • @michaelkammeyer
      @michaelkammeyer 29 днів тому +1

      I kinda love thinking about this cause a single star basketball player can impact the game so much more than the absolute best baseball player in the world. Maybe if the dodgers do manage to win like 3+ World series with shohei people outside of baseball will be able to recognize just how incredible he is. But it's unlikely that he'll be able to impact those games even close to the way Jordan so clearly led those bulls teams.
      The real chance is if he pitches successfully in the playoffs. We can only hope 😊

    The main thing that will hold back the Dodgers is starting pitching in the playoffs. Thats the main weakness. Regarding the bottom of the lineup, they have plenty of trade chips to make a move to improve that at the deadline. The outfield is a little suspect right now, Hernandez is boom or bust, Outman has been horrible offensively, and we dont know if Pages is going to continue his brilliant start of the season. And again at the deadline, they will add an everyday outfielder if necessary. I think the trade ammo up and down the minors is the extra scary thing about the Dodgers.
