Never heard of him until he took a solo at the 2013 Berks Jazz fest with Gerald Veasley. My friend and I looked at each other and said "Who the HELL IS THAT??". Amazing player.
I love watching this fellow, He looks as though he could just as easily be an Insurance Salesman or Dentist. Zero pretension, just unbelievable talent & chops..
I know right. If you saw him walking down the street you would think he was a chartered accountant or something. How would anyone know that he's one of the most brilliant funky bassists today. Seen him "live" twice. Just amazing!
I agree, and as far as I know, he's the only upright bassist to apply tapping at all, let alone two notes with each hand simultaneously doing counterpoint with the lower two notes sliding up while the higher ones slide down; utterly original and perfectly musical, a beautiful display of mind blowing technical inventiveness seamlessly blended into the more conventional chops, all with a fantastic growling vibrato; he's the best for my money since NHOP!
@@Gregorypeckory NHOP, Brian Bromberg, and the unparalleled Paul Chambers are my three favorite acoustic bassists. Bromberg's version of "Shining Star" off his 2006 CD titled WOOD ll tells you all you need to know about the magnificence of this bassist. Mind bending creativity.
@@Tomatohater64 Thanks for the recommendation; I will be purchasing it! Mr PC was alright I guess! 😜 Kidding; great constellation of upright bass heroes!
I respect Brian Bromberg because he's one of the few guys who has instruments out there with his name on it and he actually plays that bass. Big props!
This was awesome, but if I never ever see that dropped-frames camera effect ever again, it'll be too soon. Of all the bad choices to make during Brian Bromberg's solo...
Brian is just KILLIN' it here ! And his TONE is MONSTER ! And this is a live outdoor show !!!!! All great musicians here .

???? I am sure there are many salesmen or dentists that play the bass well. You act as if he is a superstar athlete. Lol
Been a huge fan of his for decades. His acoustic work is mind-blowing.
