Can a phone work without a Crystal oscillator?

This is something many technician overlook, a crystal or clock is something that runs the processor, power IC and other components. Today i decided to explore the effects a fault the clock in a phone motherboard, by taking off working crystal from a working phone and attempting to it on, i discovered with a fault clock the phone will not power on, will not charge, will not even be detected in the computer. When you power it from a power supply consumes around 0.04mA only.
