Saw your comment about beefing up some parts at the machine shop - do you mind sharing what you had done? I’ve got a mountain trike coming in a couple months and plan on abusing it 😉
is the rear wheel 'steered' by hinging the 'drive lever' only? that might take some getting used to, esp if you're used to 'push one wheel, turn to the slower side'...
I've had a Mountain Trike for 3 years, and now I'm really curious about what the "beefed up components" you mention are and if they can be replicated? BTW, mad props on your transfer- I still have problems getting into mine sometimes. I've flipped over a few times because the rear wheel steering gets sketchy going downhill fast, as you pointed out- it is not very effective in that situation. I made a handlebar mod so someone could act as a counterweight going downhill to keep the rear wheel down. Unlike the one Mountain Trike sells for $380, it was only $100 (and $80 of that is the custom Mountain Trike-made clamp you need.) Once you have the clamp, you need some aircraft grade aluminum, like 2024-T3 Aluminum Round Tube 1-1/2" OD x .035" Wall, about 3 feet long. This is just the right size for a OnePointFive system bike stem to attach on the top end, and then use whatever cheap handlebar you want.
I love the jimmy-rigging for the handlebar! I also do not have the funds to purchase things at full price, hence the beefy stuff. I had the tensioner milled as well as (I can't remember the name of the piece) the straight small axle piece.
That transfer was awesome
I’ve had mine for 4 years and I love it! Highly recommend it, especially if you’re camping or going on rough trails!
