tank too small... fish over fed... yeah.
their fish is still alive...
I know for a fact it's not happy, though.
Josie McDonell do fish feel happiness though? They do feel a drive to protect their territory, they feel fear to that they can hide from predators, they know the need to mate, they know the need to eat, but happiness? I'm sure they have content, but not full fledged happiness.
Yeah, they do.

Clearly no research . Sorry but I disliked this video
Why if it is in the minimum tank 1 gallon
minimum tank requirement is 2.5 gallons
+VioletNinetales no 1 gallon but don't worry I have my betta in a five gallon tank you can see my video on my channel about my fish
+Rafa's Animals nah, minimum is still about 3 or 5 gallons. No fish can live happily in 1 gallon, it's just unnecessary and disgusting.
The minimum is 2.5 gallons and in some countries it is illegal to keep a fish in a tank less than 5.
Not thumbing up fish abuse! You feed your beta too much. That is about the amount of food I feed my fish in a week. Your beta is going to DIE. Die I tell you. Horrid! Never give a little kid a fish. And moving the tank a lot can stress him out. Research before you get a pet and want it to live.
Bruh you got dem brains and I can’t even explain how right you r good job 👏
R.I.P
Okay so first of
I am not Hating
1) Bettas Need At Least 2.5 Gallons Of Water. And They Need To Live In A TANK not a Bowl. As a bowl spoils bettas eyesight
2) The tank needs to be filtered and heated
3) first, you should acclimate the betta fish, then Net It gently inside (if u get a new betta, only then net it) As YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MIX THE STORE WATER WITH UR PRE TREATED WATER
4) Was your water even pre treated? You should've at least put water conditioner.
5) your betta fish needs a light in his tank
6) YOU HAVE A SHARP PLASTIC PLANT IN YOUR TINY BOWL!! At least put a silk plant!
7) You CANNOT OVERFEED THE BETTA
4 PELLETS ARE MAXIMUM FOR ONE TIME IN A DAY.
8) NO-NO-NO TO THIS VIDEO

I believe the did. They seem very nice people. They probably didn’t know how to properly take care of the betta.
poor fish
Betta fish are tropical fish from Thailand. Despite what people think they live in rather large bodies of water over there. They need 3-5 or more gallons of water for just ONE. They also need a heater, their proper temperature are 76-82 degrees. They need proper filtration, and they need a properly cycled tank before you put the fish in which can take weeks, even months. When you purchase the fish it needs to be acclimated to the water. And also, fish flakes are a terrible choice for food. They are empty calories that just bloat. A nice pellet is best. It needs it's water changed weekly, maybe bi-weekly. You need to use DECHLORINATED water with a water conditioner. The water parameters also need to be checked frequently with a liquid (not strips) testing kit. Pet stores sell these poor fish in cups and give out wrong care and information. Do your own research before getting these creatures. They are not as easy to care for as one would think.
I approve of your comment. What you're saying is true!
For Betta they don't need to wait weeks for the tank to cycle.
So you can't have it in a bowl
thanks for being kind and educating people its really really good
Actually, it is recommended that you cycle a NEW tank for approximately 2 weeks so that the tank has time to cultivate a good bacteria culture that will help keep the tank clean and ammonia levels low, thus being beneficial for your fish.
1:53 “Take out a couple pieces” it’s maximum 3 pieces 🤦🏻

RIP little fella it proberly didn't last long
That's really rude of u to say
Bettas can last pretty long in poor conditions. BUT that doesn't mean they should. It probably didn't last long, that's not rude to say. They should of done their research, got an appropriate tank, condition it properly, supervised her feeding it which I'm sure they did, etc. Betta fish can live very long. It's much better to show a child how long an animal can live when properly taken care of. It's a very important message for life.

Your not caring for the betta fish correctly. I am not trying to hate but this is like animal ubuse. You need to do research before you buy an animal, their living things too. I will list the things you need and for care.
1. You NEED a 2.5 gallon tank NO LESS
2. You MUST only feed 1 little peice of food daily
3. You need a filter or you MUST clean the tank 50% twice a week
4. You need a heater in the tank (they are from a tropical place) At least 75-85°
5. DO NOT POKE THE GLASS
6. Never put bettas together
7. Don't put sharp objects in the tank (It could cut there fins)
8. You need to alcamate them so they get used to the water
Please Follow These
I really hate seeing these animals abused

PLEASE NO HATING ON THIS COMMENT ITS MY OPPION AND REAL HEALTH ISSUES AND CARE FACTS FOR THE FISH

Also if you read the whole thing it says NO HATE. Those are all facts and its for health and care for the fish. So why do you even care? I have researched on this fish for over 5 years I think I would know so trust me its right. You have no place to tell me im wrong and unreal because there facts.
I think 1 piece of food a day is the real abuse...
God Mode Its there diet
well actually, depending on the size of the flakes, i tend to feed my betta 2-4 flakes daily. but you are correct on everything else, elizabeth. whoever said 2.5 gallons is "overkill" is well [insert choice adjective].

Clearly no damn research was done for the fish's well being. You need at least a two and a half gallon tank and water conditioner, not to mention you're overfeeding the fish. I don't even own one but that's the literal basics. Jesus christ, research before you buy!!

That is cruel might as well have put it in a coke bottle for all the space it has.
A Random Brick, they can't have bowls, dip shit.
They have special tanks made for Bettas. I have a betta tank that I bought with my betta..
+A Random Brick They need space, like any living breathing animal. Keeping bettas in bowls is inhumane.
It's not curl umm male beta fish will fight to the death and that's all the space it needs I breed beta fish well my dad dose it's varry hard he had 4 females die this mouth from a male
Well actually, they are kind of used to small spaces (wild Betta's at least) but either than that, they need at least a 5 gallon tank. That size might be a bit smaller but that size is acceptable
Alright, so. You're keeping it in a bowl? And there is no place for him to hide... the rocks seem too bright, you didn't even keep him in the container and put him in the water for 15-20 minutes, that's actually very important to do, you don't have a heater or anything to tell the temperature with! The temperature for beta fish is 76-78°F. I have my red veiltail, his name is Alpha, and he swims right up to me when I go to look into his tank! That betta probably didn't even last a week...
the person who helped me out with betta fish gave me a way nicer and bigger tank than that that tank honestly looks really cheap and ik betta fish jump but I think it could use a little more water. I have 2 betta (one male and one female and of course separate tanks) I chose to start off with betta fish cause they don't need filters and I've had them for a year now and I've actually bonded with them maybe a week after I got them and love how excited they get when ever I walk up to them
Who cares Same!!! When I walk up to my betta fish, he gets super excited 😊
Mine too, when I walk into my bedroom my betta fish comes swimming up to me! He's also my first fish so I think I'm doing pretty well!

They didn't acclimate the fish!
Ice Dragon I don’t even think that’s the first problem. They should’ve never bought it in the first place omfg my eyes burn at this video
@@priyak3337 Are you stupid?
You need:
Filter
Proper pebbles
Air bubbles
OTHERWISE YOUR FISH WILL DIE
Filter yes...but why the others? Substrate is merely decorative (bare bottom tanks for example) and air bubbles won't do anything for the fish. Those things increase oxygen, and as Betta fish are labyrinth fish they won't benefit much from that, they also circulate the water which they wouldn't need to do so if they had a good filter with air flow.
Also where's the heater and 10+ gallon tank on that list? 😅
Whoops yes thanks for telling me, you need air bubbles so the fish can breath otherwise they will die. I have learnt from my mistakes, anyway nice to talk to you have a great 2021.

The tank is too small, you have no heater or filter, a bowl is too over crowded and your over feeding it. I couldn't be more triggered then right now...
Rose R Same
Tank isn't too small for a betta, when you purchase them they come in containers two times smaller. A betta does not require a heater but is recommended, and if you clean the bowl once or twice a week then it will be clean. Lastly, a few pellets aren't going to make the fish obese. Dude learn how to you punctuation and research into this further.
Demarlah Perkins
fish don't breathe through their mouth like mammals they breath through their gills on their side.
I'm new to fishing, bought a betta last week, asked the ladies if they are edible. Bought 3 more last night, the big one chases the little ones, had to keep them separate, tired of sticking my fingers in there to stop big red from chasing the little bettas. Big red betta chases his reflection. Threw some ants in there,he does not eat them, threw a moth in there, don't thinks he ate. give him betta food,he only eats if it sinks, even then most it it floats to the bottom, and he does not eat it, why the heck is the glass so reflective,it confuses him,and makes him attack his reflection. I have no heater, left the ac on ,woke saw no betta, stuck my finger in,and it was cold, found betta damn near dead, stuck a heat pad in their betta was healthy again in a few hours. betta lie sinking food and food that looks like it's running away from them, they like to hunt living food.I'm going to put them outside and let them feed on mosquito larvae. i might go back and buy all the betta and release them in waterways to help control mosquitoes.
I'd hate to make you even more triggered, but I keep my betta fish in a small glass bowl, and barely feed it. Also I've never had a heater before and I live in Alaska my house is always cold. Best thing is my betta fish is three years old :P :P :P
First problem you didn't acclimate the fish, the tanks dirty, and too small, it's not good to feed it only one type of food, there's no filter or heater it's basic care if you don't know how to care for one then don't make you're 3 year old do it.
Sorry I forgot to say there's no light
+E- box X Xx it doesn't matter if there's no light they don't need a light of a filter its optional
+Aminalovesbeanieboos the filter will clean out the wast and chemicals
its optional in the same way that your heater is optional during winter, it atlases needs floating water as the water quality will deteriorate, leave a slimy nasty disgusting layer of protein on the water and the betta swims to the surface for air inhaling all that nasty crap,
When I see pet store workers give a fish to a child that young to me it is like signing the death certificate for the poor thing
I can see his fins getting ripped to shreds on the plant
Now I have to write another long comment on how to care for betta fish. 😞😔Here goes.
Tank size: Bettas need at least 5 gallons to be happy best 10 gallons or more. It needs room to swim. Do not put two or more male bettas in the same tank. Only put a male and a female in the same tank if they are both ready to breed, the male has made a bubble nest and you have a large tank with a removable divider in it. If you are a starter to betta keeping, I do not recommend starting to breed them.
Substrate: your betta will appreciate it most if you add a natural looking substrate. If you add a light substrate, don’t have too much light as this promotes algae growth. Sand and small pieces of gravel is fine. Do not use pebbles for substrate as your betta will most likely try to wedge them self between the rocks, it will get trapped.
Plants and decoration: all fish tanks require live plants to help the nitrogen cycle to keep your tank clean. I recommend Marino moss balls as betta fish love these. Bettas like Java moss and Java fern too. There are lots of plants out there. If you consider adding fake plants, do not use plastic as a betta’s fins are extremely delicate. Use silk instead. Add hiding places for the betta as they are curious fish who love to explore.
Water: add water conditioner to remove chlorine from the tank. Change 25% or your water every week and test your water parameters every 2 weeks. I recommend the API master water test kit. If you have a new tank, remember to cycle the water for 3-4 weeks to help the beneficial bacteria grow. It is a must to add in a heater, a filter and you can get an air pump
Introducing new fish: when putting fish into a tank, the fish needs time to adjust to the water in its tank. Every 5-10 minutes let’s some water into his cup/bag. Once you’ve done that 3 times, turn the cup/bag sideways so the fish can swim out at its will. Try not to pour the fish in as drastic water changes might kill fish which is why you should slowly let the water in.
Food: give your betta a varied diet. If your bettas main meal is going to be pellets, feed them 3-4 pellets twice a day. You can also feed your betta flakes. Remember to add food like bloodworms, brine shrimp and daphnia to his diet. You can buy these foods live, frozen or freeze-dried. If your fish is constipated, boil a pea for a minute or so, take the skin off the pea and split into half. You can cut one half into small pieces so they will fit into your bettas mouth. Feed the cut up half one piece at a time. You can throw away or eat the other half. If you decide not to use the pea method, try finding a food high in fibre and before you give it to your betta, check if it is ok to feed that food to your betta.
Disease: bettas can get many diseases so be prepared with a quarantine tank if your betta lives in a community tank! The quarantine tank doesn’t need to be large 2 gallons is fine. These are some diseases: popeye, cloudy eye, neon tetra disease, dropsy, fin/tail rot and a lot more. Please research diseases bettas get to ensure your bettas safety.
Tank mates: observe you betta and spend time with it. Find its personality. You can use a mirror to play with you betta no more than 5 minutes a day. If your fish is aggressive and flares at many things, don’t get a tank mate. If it is a peaceful fish, you may consider adding tank mates. Here are a few tank mates you can have for your betta: tetras, rasboras, guppies, loaches, catfish and a lot more!
That’s the basics hope that helped! :3
But I’m just saying but you can’t compare NEMO to a betta. Nemo is a CLOWNFISH which is a salt water fish and a betta is a freshwater fish

My friend has a bong that has a very small fish bowl in which he kept a betta. "Hank" lived for about three years before taking his own life by miraculously jumping out of the small hole. He cleaned his bowl out once every 2-3 months and Hank was a very active and seemingly happy fish. These people act like they're the fish whisperers lol. Bettas can hang through some hard times and be happy. Just do you.
I posted this on the wrong comment...
+Russ 9472 Their natural habitats are rice paddies, not lakes. Those rice paddies are like football field sized. Every knowledgable hobbyist knows that just because a Betta can survive in a tiny bowl doesn't mean you should force it to spend its entire life in one.
i hate how people consider fishes as decorations rather than a living being
U didn’t acclimate the betta.
This tank is WAY too small to keep a better - or any fish for that matter in. Betta’s should have a minimum of 2.5 gallons in their tank in order to thrive and live their whole life of around 7 years. IN this tank there’s NO room to fit the much NEEDED filter, heater, and live plants that are required for your bette fish’s health and well being. If you’re looking at buying a betta the start up costs will get you. Food, Prime, Water Conditioner, 2.5 Gallon Tank, Decor/Live plants, Hood/Lights, The Fish itself, Gravel, Filter, and heater! Splurge a bit and give a better life to a betta. DO NOT BUY THIS TANK!
The only fish that could carry is a fry less than a inch it's horrible what people do to these poor fish I'm happy my fish will live with a good person who will never put them in danger of death like that use a ten gallon or a five or even at least a three would have been better for that poor fish
Oh and 7 years is in the wild 2 for captive I thought I should say so
+Alis Dillon ...fish aren't capable of happy or sad its not a mammal, reptile or bird chill your shit
it will not have oxygen either
Malik Parks actually yes they are
You people are sick. Betta's can not be put in such a small habitat. You need to get better plants . Preferably silk plants, you can find those supplies at petco or petsmart. You need 2 or the 3 decorations so they can hide . Plastic habitats are better than glass. You want to make sure they don't flare because males will do that. They can get lots of stress in such a tiny space.
No need to call them sick. Stop complaining enjoy the cuteness
sushigirl648 Yess there is a reason to call them sick, nasty, stupid and cruel. do you have a pet other than a fish? well if you do then I bet you wouldn't leave them in a box in their own waste in freezing cold temperaatures, no time to adjust, with toxic gas in there and nothing to do for its whole life? don't you think that would be cruel to do that to a dog? yes is the answer and that's exactly what that poor helpless fish is experiencing.
What if I don't look at a fish the same way as a good? One could argue G-d out them I this earth to be eaten and kept as pets
Also, Anyone with common sense would know not to do that to a dog. But a fish? It's hard to tell when they are happy or sad! She is a 4 year old girl!
she might only be a 4 year old girl and got it t as a present ( sometimes I even get tanks ass presents) but its the parents that are the problem in that have set it up for her not knowing anything about fish. I was about to say and they'll do is the matienence for her as she is so yooung but they probably wont do any
I couldn't count all the mistakes you've made here with every finger in Montana.
As a betta owner you aren’t supposed to put them in a small bowl the betta needs a filter and a heater the water has to be 78 degrees or so and it needs room to swim around also you are only supposed to feed a betta minimum of three pieces overfeeding will cause it to become ill for future reference
Listen here the fish doesent have eneough room and u didnt even take the time to acclamate the fish... Its the most basic care....
morgan pfischer I know right the fish needs to be acclamted to the water and then even before then. You need to treat the water. They did everything wrong.
Hey man i know this was 2 years but maybe they didnt have enough money i mean sure the tank needs to be bigger but maybe their on a budget like the rest of the world is i whouldnt get a HUGE tank for my beta fish must likely a normal size tank make sure the fake plants and other things are clean because people most likely been touching on them and put them in their next i whould recommend putting the fish in a bag with the same water and put the fish thats in the bag into the water water a few minutes or so so the water can change into a different tempreture simple as that if you wanna train it their are treats for beta fish and other fishes you can teach it to jumping out the water sinces it's natural for them to do it in the wild.maybe they though it whould be like talking care of any kind of fish but who knows their most likely going to take advice from the nice commens and put him in a slightly bigger tank*
Why buy a fish if they dont have money
@@monke2505 exactly. If you can’t afford to properly care for an animal, don’t fucking buy one

Guys! I understand that the fish isn’t being kept as it should, but SHES SUPER YOUNG! When she gets older and more educated, and she wants a fish, THEN she will be able to get a proper set up! I remember when I was her age and got a fish and kept it in a fish bowl cause me and mom knew nothing about fish care and tank size, and I was like 6. ;-; Don’t hate on her.
Guys. That fish can stressed out very easily and DIE very quickly. They can’t live in bowls, there is no heater, there is no filter, also it needs to be in a 2.5 gallon tank or above.
Exactly!
You people are clearly misinformed, you need at least a 5 gallon (most would say 2.5 or 3 gallon) tank to take care of any fish in my opinion. And when I say that I mean specifically a tank, bowls are super restrictive and are homes for disease. Please do research before you buy any animal because I can assure you that that betta is not in what he needs to be happy and survive.
Beta fish live in a little cup at the store anything bigger would be perfect
samantha dudek You are clearly ignorant on the subject. Please do some research before you say things.
Though I disagree with the current set up for this betta tank, I honestly don't see a huge problem having a betta fish in a small tank such as a 1 -2 gallon tank as long as the tank has a proper filtration system, a heater, ideal water conditions, and partial water changes are done. Yes the 1 -2 gal may be on the small side, but it is clearly much better than the little tupperware tubs some of these fish come in. plus, a healthy betta is a happy betta
Kitsukoh It's just that it's nearly impossible to find a heater small enough to safely heat a 1-2 gallon bowl. :(
I have a 2.5 gallon for my betta, I honestly suggest a 25 w adjustable heater rather than no heater or those heating pads. Test the heater out first in a container of water, start it at low heat in the tank, and very slowly and gradually increase the temperature
Poor thing! Never put a betta fish in a bowl, Its to cramped for them. Also don't pour the water from the store in with the fish, that's dirty water that could harm a fish and out it under stress with the temp change . I understand this was made in 2011 but still poor thing! It looks extremely unhealthy to, Its colors aren't vibrant enough to be healthy.
I have a bowl...well it's nicer and and way bigger than that so they do have a lot of room and plants and this thing called a "betta buddy" that looks like a Moss covered rock I have one male and one female (gumball and Luna and of course they're in separate tanks) and I honestly never expected to have a special bond with fish but I never realized how different their personalities can be
@@whocares7854 "Betta buddies" are balls of algae. Also, the reason why bowls are horrible for better fish is because most of them don't reach the minimum size which is 2.5 gallons. Also bowls do not have proper filtration, or heating. Most of all, bowls are very damaging to any fish's eyesight. My betta fish is in a 30 gallon community tank with java ferns, java moss, dwarf hair grass, floater plants and plenty of spaces to hide. He has way more enrichment than a fish in a bowl will have and is a lot more active than a fish w/o a heater. The point is, betta fish are not hard to take care of and putting them in a bowl over a decently sized tank (that you can find for good deals online for kits) is just stupid, in my opinion.
I feel sad for dumping my fish and her water in to the tank when I first got her.
@@mars._.is._.peachy don’t feel bad! We all make mistakes, it’s just important that we learn from them :)
Please do research, that Betta needs so much more, I really hope you did since some time passed
Congradulations on her first beta! Here are some tips to help
His tank should be at least 2 gallons and he should have lots of places to hide. When feeding, three flakes in the morning and three at night are more than enough, even if he seems starving, believe me when I say they will eat endlessly. Over feeding will kill it faster than underfeeding.
Make sure you research illnesses with the fish and keep the water clean. If you can't get a filter, changing the water once a week should work fine. If you can't get a heater, make sure you keep the room he stays in nice and warm.
That should get you started, I hope I helped ^^
I’d say a 2-3 gallon is acceptable but wouldn’t be ideal
I would get a bigger aquarium. A betta can survive in small places but wouldn't be happy I would get him in a 5 gallon or bigger. Also a bettas stomach is as big as its eye so when y'all said don't over feed him y'all already did.
Also a betta is a tropical fish and should have a aquarium heater.
+King Cobra Reptiles oh gimme a break it's a damn Betta, I've seen one like over 2 years in a flower vase. lol. a fish bowl does fine as long as you keep the water clean.

I can name 10 things that you are doing totally wrong
1. Bowls are cruel and can mess up a bettas vision because of the abnormal shape
2. It is also to small bettas need a least a 2.5 gallon TANK not bowl
3. Bettas are tropical fish and need heaters
4 . Bettas are known for jumping so you need a cover over your tank
5. Bettas can take oxygen out of the air but a filter helps your betta get more oxygen which makes the healthier and happier
6. The only reason why he was so hungry was because bettas have to eat all there food, because in the wild they never know when there next meal is. So you are probably overfeeding him
7. You need more than just 1 plant, bettas like to hide so invest in a little hidey house or more plants
8. You should have a thermometer to monitor the tank temperature
9. You should float the container in the water before you add him so he can get used to water temperature
10. Lastly you shouldn't put the dirty petstore water in to his clean water
Maria Hacks all of you Ummm I have a betta fish I bought it with my own money, it was my first pet I bought with my own money so I didn’t have much to spend.. I did research and I saw many people put their fish in bowls... so that’s what I bought.. I got it a little tropical looking house and a plant with some white rocks, I also conditioned the water and left it overnight to get to room temp. Except the thing is... I live in a cold state.. so it wouldn’t get SUPER warm.. is my fish gonna die?? I named it Rat😂🤣 but I realllyyyyy want it to stay alive, if it’s gonna die tell me and maybe give me some cheap ways I could save it because I don’t have that much money to spend.. my fish swims around A LOT so it seems healthy but idk, it has a circular bowl unlike the one in this video.. I heard the fish hover at the bottom of the water if it’s to cold but my fish doesn’t do that much, maybe occasionally, but it swims around at the top to a lot. Tell me if I’m killing my fish because I want it to live as long as possible 😬😬😬
But the pet store says to put some of the old water in so the fish wont go in shock did they lie to me 😞

@@norahdejournett142 If you did research you would have known they need at least 5 gallons, a heater, and a filter. You and your parents negligence has become fish abuse. Fishkeeping is not a cheap hobby, don't get into it if you don't have the money or time for it. It's a life not a decoration
I know he is proudly dead bye now but why did you get the fish for it to live in a "cereal bowl"
Honestly thanks for all those real fish owners with experience and knowledge. It's pathetic how people try to tell you that "betta fish can live in small bowls" "they live in mud puddles" "they don't live that long" "they don't need a filter or heater" obviously none of them had the mental capacity to think of doing a simple google search. Betta fish are some of the most abused and neglected fish next to goldfish and its terrible to see pet stores and brands trying to sell people as much as possible even if they don't know shit.
Mr. Purple I know right
Betta fish could live very long if you know what your supposed to do
To small of a "tank" never put fish water with your water. That is probably regular faucet water with no chemicals added. Sad to see that fish live such a short life.
Actually for that type of fish the tank is not small those fish cannot be with other fishes
Marcos Favela
The females can be kept together. Females in a tank is a sorority. That tank is to small for a betta. please do some research and come back.
+Lawrence Zeng No they don't they really don't need anything like that. They are the easiest fish to take care of. Thats why they are sold in containers like that on shelves and not in takes
No, because all of the other fish are in tanks... take walmart for example Lawrence Zeng
Betta fish typically live in rice puddles so small bowls are perfectly comfortable to them
Wow, I bet this betta has only lived for like 2 weeks in that torture device
A fish is NO good pet for a child! Fish are fragile and should only be kept by people who are able/want to look up information on how to keep fish, if you did so, you'd know a bowl is a dead trap for a fish
Betta's need at least 5 gallon, at the véry least! Also a filter and heater, its ridiculous how people think they're some magical species of fish and therefore doesn't need a filter or heater, what makes a betta different from other fish? Why dont they get the privilege of being able to swim in a proper tank, all nicely heated and filtered? Would you put a discus fish in there? NO, so why would you put a betta in it?
I seriously hope this fishy only lived for a few more days because its way better off dead than in that thing with a child as its owner
I'm going to have to wholeheartedly disagree. I had a betta that lived for at least a year in a small bowl with rocks at the bottom. Definitely not five gallons, no filter, no heater.
well, thats other proof, a betta in healthy condition easily gets 5 years, they're about 6 months when sold, so your betta could have lived 3.5 more years if treated well
When a dog lived in a small cage in cold temperatures and the cage would only be cleaned once a week and it died at 4 years (assuming a dog lives 12), it would be animal abuse and you will get fined for that, so why isn't it animal abuse when its a fish?
If a parent would abuse a child and it would die, they would get in jail for it, so why is it not bad when someone abuses a fish and it dies from the abuse? Its your task as a pet owner to give your pet what it needs and to let it live as long as the species can
If it were up to me, every pet owner should first do a test before getting a pet, so that he knows how to care for it
all4Demi Bettas can SURVIVE in bowls like that one. They THRIVE in gallon tanks or larger tanks. I have a betta fish currently that lives in about a half gallon tank that we got at PetCo. He's absolutely fine. My older sister had four bettas when she was little and they all lived 3-4 years in small tanks/bowls. As far as I know, Bettas are fairly easy to care for as long as you know what to give it. Warm water, the right amount of food, regular cleaning every other day and lots of attention. Would you rather give a small child a small prize goldfish that only lasts a month, or a betta that lives 2-3 years? I, honestly, think that this child would enjoy having a pet that lives for quite some time. I don't think she would enjoy flushing a goldfish down the toilet a month after she was given it. And besides, it's like giving a little kid a puppy. It teaches responsibility. I don't think this family would buy a betta when they had no idea what to do with it.
Like I said, a FISH is no pet for a child, a puppy is much easier to take care of because they won't die when its a bit too cold or so, except you're stuck with a dog for 15 years, so thats why parents buy a fish, if the kid is tired of it, the parents flush the fish
As you said, it can survive in such torture device, but not thrive, think about it as if its a dog:
You have a dog, how do you want it to live? Do you want to lock it up in a tiny cage and give it food and water once a day and clean it a bit every few days, but it manages to survive in the circumstances, or do you want it to be running around happily in the park, play with it, ...
I think thats easy to decide, so why would you put a fish in a place thats way too small for it?
Why does another fish like angelfish, gourami's, tetra's, ... deserve to have enough space and betta's not?
And dont give that shit that they live in small places in the wild, because first of all, these fish aren't really wild, they're man made creatures, and second, ever seen rice fields? They might be only inches deep but are huge, and yes, they do get stuck in puddles in the dry season, but how long do you think they live in there? 2 weeks? Maybe 3? And then they die..
Perhaps this family has a small bowl because they cannot afford a huge tank or they just have no room for one? Have you thought about that? And if you're going to reply with "If they had no room for one, they wouldn't have bought a betta." Maybe the mother or father of this child's first pet was a betta as well. Maybe the child saw a picture of this fish and wanted one. The bowl in the video looks just a bit smaller than a half a gallon. Most bettas are raised in small little cups in the pet store. It's all they really know. This family isn't looking to breed bettas. They simply wanted their daughter to have a pet. They're ADULTS. I'm sure they know how to properly care for a betta.
Those fish can’t live in that tiny bowl!!!! 😡😡😡 I wish I could come and rescue them from the abuse!!😭😭😭😭😭😭. Poor fish!! 😡😭😡😭😡😭 those people are monsters!
Bettas are my most favourite fish, they're so beautiful. For me this is animal cruelty. Have you researched? That plant is too spiky for a betta and will rip it's fins. Bettas need a tank and filter, and it's Normal for them not to eat for a few days, but in general, you should have reaserched more
This video makes me sick. The parents teach their child that it is ok to put something alive in such a small tank.
My betta is in a 'betta cube' that is maybe .25 gallons. Play him 2-Pac's song, 'when I get out of jail.'
its a good way to get her introduced to betta fish
It's not good for anyone. Do it like it should be done!
Ignore the two I'll give you the facts
I've been keeping bettas for more than 10 years and a goldfish bowl is a perfect place to keep them. Their natural environments are usually rice patties and really shallow swamps so their water doesn't even exceed 5 inches this is actually a perfect way to keep them but don't give them to little kids they tend to do stupid things
Also, anything without a lid means a betta could jump out and dry out. Mine jumped out from a lidless bowl just from a water change. Betta fish can jump very high. Mine jumped at least 18 inches up and onto the counter.
how the hell was it ever deadly, a small little fish would not bite
Betta fish are fighting fish, and they have been know to fight to the death with other fish. sure, the fish may not be very deadly to the human, but they can cause damage to other smaller creatures.

Queencool45 AJ Nah the video is still very stupid.
That is too small. No matter what anyone tells you or what stupid stores think, you CANNOT put a betta in that tiny little bowl. At the very least put him in a 2.5 gal. For him to truly be happy, he needs to be in a 5 gal. I know it's the little girls and she can't have a giant 5 gal tank, but at least get a 2.5 gal.
true, but my siamese fighting fish is in a tank way bigger than that one( i dont know what size) but it dosent seem to move much, it does, just not much... idk y
What temperature is the water?
+Ƙαωαιι Ɗяαgσηѕ check ph levels, ammonia levels, water temperature, and how hard the pressure of the filter is. You might need some things to check it. I know you can go buy ph test thingies. The water may just be too cold. If it is, just go buy a small water heater. That should do the trick. If the ph is too high, there should be some stuff at pet stores, along with things for everything else. If you try all of those and none seem to work, he may or may not be sick, but I doubt it.
+Dena Mello i have a good tank setup and everything that u listed, but it still dosent move much... sick?

Bowls are improper living conditions for any kind of fish, including Betta fish. Bettas need a minimum of 2.5 gallons with a heater set between 78-82 degrees fahrenheit. Honesly, it's not that expensive to purchase even a 5 gallon tank. I just feel bad for the poor fish. I mean, the little girl didn't even seem very happy about her new pet.
Yeah, a betta is not an age-appropriate pet for a small child. :/
I could not agree more! Children lack the responsibility to regularly care for any type of animal, especially fish because they require constant maintenance.
people do not realize that children are not responsible for taking care of pets.
parents cannot afford 20 gallon tank for comet goldfishes and so they put the little fishy in the 1 gallon bowl.
if they cannot afford, they why get a pet?
comet goldfishes-grow up to 14 inches and they require 70 gallons when grown.
fishes are low maintenance but require care.
