- If it seems like I've been doing a lot of sewing lately - it's because I've been... doing a lot of sewing lately. This is a pretty basic pattern alteration that can be used to make a Mary Magdalene (lolita fashion brand) inspired bolero. I'm using lace for the summer months but this technique would also make a great jersey knit bolero as well. These could also be worn with several other styles like otome kei, mori girl, dolly/cult party kei, ect.
Hi! I'm The Stitchess! I'm an interdisciplinary artist and seamstress. I started sewing when I was 8 and loved it so much I made it the focus of my study in college. After a lifetime of battling severe mental health issues - I found healing in the radical softness and Japanese kawaii communities. As much as I love fashion and clothing, I also think it's important to consider how and where clothing is made. I went fast fashion free at the start of 2019 to voice my concerns over the rapid consumerism gripping the garment industry. By no means am I perfect, but I think it's important to show that change is a process. I believe it is always important to strive to be better, even if perfection is unattainable. Thank you so much for letting me share my art and process with you. I hope we can all grow together ^-^

me, knowing i’m not gonna make this, paying careful attention to how to make the bow: 👁👄👁
As someone who's grown up without being able to afford to get into fast fashion and severely lacking in clothes i like your videos are very helpful. Im going into college next year so will need more than 2 outfits and I've been binging your videos for the past few days
I also grew up lacking in funds so I’m glad I could be helpful!
I get you. I used to be so embarrassed to go to school wearing the same clothes almost every day. Well, no one really cares in high school and college, but it can still be a strange feeling.
Sewing and fashion do not have to be expensive, and can be fun and creative.
hello The Stitchess, it's friend :)
This is legitimately super cute! Unfortunately most cute boleros I find are REALLY tight on the arms, and they're kinda uncomfortable. I love how loose and breezy this looks
Tight arms EVEN THO IT’S SUPPOSED TO FIT OVER PUFF SLEEVES
@@TheStitchess I KNOW
The stitches, making my qurantine cuter
I've been suddenly getting all your videos in my recommended, and I'm glad the algorithm is actually pretty good at showing me cool new people. I love your whole vibe and it's weird I didn't find you sooner 🤗🤗
i so need to make this but in black oml added to my goth wardrobe
Using the body suit pattern to make a sloper is genius. I'll have to try that since I haven't done a true sloper before.
Beautiful work! I have to admit, for some reason I've been sleeping on the cuteness and versatility of boleros, but this video opened my eyes. Time to dig out the two boleros that have been hiding in my mom's closet!
I love sewing tutorials ❤ Keep living that flappy sleeve life!
It's so cute everytime you say "bot" instead of but, what kind of accent is that? The bolero is great, can't wait for a new lookbook :D
lol, I have kind of a weird accent because I used to move a lot when I was a kid. Also numbness from jaw surgery I had years ago...
Notification squad let's go!!!
This turned out so cute, I love the lace and ruffles.
There was a lolita bolero pattern in one of the Otome no Sewing magazines. I've been thinking to make something like that for a coord.
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on those mooks for so long 😭
Mary Magdalene a big fav that I have no hope of ever fitting, in high school and now
Ahhh this came out so cute! Looking forward to the lookbook. ✨💕
amazing tutorial! i’ve been coming back to this for a while and finally decided i’m gonna make it, but i had to draft my own pattern bc the pattern you used wouldn’t be big enough for some of my (plus sized) measurements- the mockup turned out well though, and tomorrow i’m going to go get the actual fabric! i’m gonna do it out of black velvet with a lining of some sort, and i’m gonna put ruffles on the sleeves, but this video was a huge inspiration :DD
Very pretty and great tutorial! The bow pin idea was soooo clever as well 😍😍I’d love to make a version of this but with lace and lots of pearls soon!
So cute! I love your style, and your sewing creations make me smile!! 🎀❤️💘💖Also, I'm living for your stop motion vintage vibe intros...
girl!! youtube started liking you??? i wont be surprised if you reach 30k soon xDddd
omg God tier sewing tutorials tysm
congrats on 25k!
omg, those sleeves
I love how this looks and i always love loose breezy sleeves but i feel like it would look so much more cuter if it was a little more cropped, like if it ended under the chest line it would look more fitted. but you do you girl.
This is so sweet, I love it! I'm super unfamiliar with cute styles and the correct names for the cultures and sub-cultures that influence and surround these. What would you call your aesthetic and how would you define it?
Just general kawaii I guess? I wear a bit of a mish mash of things.
My recommended has been blessed
It turned out super cute! Rieko Tanaka would be proud~!
Innocent world has been real quiet since you posted this 👀
This is beautiful!!
Goodnesssss, I love this. If only it fit my wardrobe aesthetic, I'd make one asap
Another amazing DIY video ♡♡ love how this turned out~! Wish I had your sewing skills! lol
Just takes lots of practice ^-^
soooo precious
This turned out very cool 💟
It’s cute I would have made the under arm a bit more fitted though. Something about the sleeves to me looks a little frumpy.
Thank you so much for this. I have been wanting to make a similarly styled bolero myself but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how the ruffles were arranged.
This is amazing!!!
You are so talented!
AHH ITS SO CUTE!!!!
No way--I just started sewing again today! =O
So cute. You make it look so easy u_u
I JUST picked up that simplicity pattern for bodysuits omggggg (I'm a drag queen and I want to get into selling/making bodysuits and catsuits)
Aye I wish this video existed when I started lolita back in 2012 lol. They're lit city even for goth or vintage outfits :P I love cutting ugly cardigans into these types of boleros lol
the first one here wow!
I'm new here and I already like your channel very much! :)
super cute :)
Omg it's gorgeous!
I legit screenshotted this bolero from another video because I want to make it 😍
Boom tutorial. How did you know?
This is beautiful! Do you sell your clothes anywhere?
Love your video, do you know what size I should cut out of this pattern? I'm a size 8-10 UK 34'' Bust. This pattern is used with elastic fabric so I'm unsure what size to use for myself
Do you have a favourite rotary cutter? I picked one up but am not a fan tbh and am looking for a better option.
Yeah whichever one is sharp lol
I think all rotary cutters kinda suck unless you just need to quickly cut a single layer of fabric. It’s just fast. My favorite cutting utensil is a good ol’ 8” dressmaker shears. If I had to pick a fav brand it would be gingher (they have a great sharpening program, but they aren’t cheap by any means) but fiskars are also nice enough (and they have a sharpening kit).
What is that fabric? It looks fluffy, but also stretchy.
😃
U are so cute ! *** keep it up :)
in your opinion what is better to use? Scissors or rottery cutter?I've always used scissors for everything.
Scissors are more precise and in my opinion the superior choice. The rotary cutter is faster though.
@@TheStitchess Thank you! And ya it does look faster, Cutting with scissors large pieces always takes hours.
Did I miss something? How did you finish the the neckline edge on the body? Does the ruffle take care of that somehow?
That’s the ruffle piece with the hem on both sides, a lace hem on one and a rolled hem on the other.
The top ruffle covers the raw edge ^-^
@@TheStitchess oh duh! thanks
Holy shit I have that pattern in my box 😂
i've been watching some doll reparation/repainting videos (by the amazing marina of poppen atelier) and came across one that makes a (two-faced & two-styled) lolita doll. maybe you could consider reacting to that, as a continuation of the reaction videos (unlike more wntw episodes hehehe).
it's this one, if you might give it a chance: ua-cam.com/video/lZv_KZ1mDuY/v-deo.html
