I have actually had this machine for 4 years and love it. I'm 67 years old and have spent a lifetime cooking for my family using a vast variety of cuisines. I have arthritis in my hands and its painful to do things like chopping and kneading bread. The Thermomix does so much more than the few things they demonstrated, and it helps to not create a pile of dirty dishes and utensils. Don't knock it until you've spoken to people who have and use it!

Price of these things never goes down. Also it seems like anytime a new model comes out (every 7-8 years or so) the old one can't be purchased from the Vorwerk rep anymore although you can get it from a private seller.
It's very popular in Europe and I grew up with one of these, although it's not necessary, you can easily incorporate it into your every day life

Good luck, The first Thermomix was released in the 1960s. Vorwerk (the company that makes them) are selling hundreds of thousands each month. You will never get a Thermomix cheap unless you buy second hand. These things are massive in Europe, Aus and NZ.

I've had one of these since Christmas 2018 and it's changed my life for the better. I've never been that adventurous (beans on toast was exotic), but I can now knock up some amazing dishes with ease (and it's actually fun). One of the only things to keep in mind is that if you are cooking a complex dish - it can still take a lot of time to prepare (from scratch) and that the preparation times displayed within the app/website are way off (I would double them in a lot of cases). That being said, cooking times are bang on and I have yet to make a bad meal.

  • @sanscipher
    @sanscipher 5 років тому +172

Well guys, part of the reason why these are so expensive is that they are built to last. My in-laws have just replaced their TM21, which was more than 15 years old and in daily usage, not because it was broken but because the new one is better. We have bought the TM31, the predecessor to the one you are showing, in 2010 and it still works like new, and we love every bit of this machine. We lived in an apt with a tiny kitchen and not having 5 machines flying around was a huge benefit for us at the time. I know this sound weird for people who don't have one, but this is the one kitchen gadget you can't live without once you had one. Now don't laugh, but we even take it on holidays sometimes....
When you want to prepare your own fresh food for you baby without any additives, this does it like a charm. You can then freeze it in small portions and microwave it when you need it. I do a lot of tomato sauce for pasta/pizza and freeze it for later use, tastes better than anything you can buy. Want to make you own pesto and never go back to store-bought because you will love it so much? It makes a perfect roux any time, you can make your own sirups, marmelades are a whiff, smoothies are a no-brainer. Make your own yogurt, powdered sugar, even flour from whole grains or powdered parmesan, this machine does it without problems. I even once made my own Tahini with it as the store didn't have any. And a lot of things you do with it you don't have to stand there and stir it the whole time, you just set it and go prep the next steps while it is cooking, or clean up the kitchen, so it's a time saver as well.
An it doesn't take any "personal touch" out of cooking, you just stick to the recipes for a while until you get a feel for what it can do and how it's done, and then you can go and create things you like much easier than before.
I know this sounds like a too-good-to-be-true commercial, but guys, in all seriousness, if you need one kitchen gadget, this is it.

i completely agree. i am so lazy at washing it and sometimes i just place water and soap and it stays there for a whole week and when i go to wash it 1st the food detaches pretty well and after washing it, it looks as good as new. i doubt that with other cheap ones i could do the same. it is seen that the materials used on it are meant to make the machine last

Not sure that the price will come down that much for the Thermomix since it's been very popular in Europe and has been around since 1971 and is still this pricey around the world, but "knock-offs" from other companies are lower in price so I think those will get more and more competitive. Doesn't seem like any of those match up to the original yet though.

I love cooking and I LOOOOVE thermomix
I love that I can make thousands of dishes using only one gadget, I love that you can make 99% of the dishes that pop in your head without needing anything else (some times an oven is necessary as the final step), it doesn't take much space in the kitchen, I love that you can change the recipes or do the same dish over and over always tasting the same way, and I do think that sometimes (most of the time, when dealing with inexperienced cooks) meals really tastes better than using a "traditional" method.
I recommend it to anyone that can afford it. I only use pans for pasta and a couple of other recipes. I don't have a mixer or scale. Thermomix is my no1 kitchen utensil, the one I use 90% of the time.
Plus I don't have to stir a pot for 20 min or more for a rice dish anymore. My wrists swell up sometimes because I work a lot on my computer and Thermomix really helps me with that.

Okay, they say in the end that you can do the same thing with other kitchen stuff, okay but it is about time saving by automatic weighing, not needing 5 pots that you have to wash after, doing multiple recipes at the same time is another time-saving, and by having an alarm when each step is done allows you to do something else in between, wich is another time saver. Is worth it if you have the money.

In my opinion, something that justifies that price point is that it does more then just a blender. If you take all the task it can actually accomplish and translate them to individual items used in the kitchen, the individual machines needed to accomplish everything the thermomix does would come at a much steeper price then simply buying this. also, it is common to buy it from a representative of thermomix, like tupperware. You'll get warrenty, bonuses and payment plans

These in Europe are around 800 ... if you think these substitute any blender, a kitchenaid ... a mixer... a pot... a pressure cooker...a scale..a sous vide... etc they are pretty reasonable. A Ninja blender/Vitamix is what? 200 dollars? A kitchen aid for baking is what? another 250/300? ... the instant pot is what? another 150? sous vide machine another 100... not to mention all the room you need for all these separate appliances
Again in Europe they are not even close to 1500 - way overprice in the US. You can even buy it used for around $400 and since they are so durable, buying used for around 350-400 is a great deal.

Im a Thermomix owner and I don't know anyone who's ever regret buying one. Try and find a used one, I bet you won't be able to find this new model. I think its worth every penny considering that it replaces most of your appliances in the kitchen, and if you do the math, the money you spend on mixers, grinders, juicers, bread makers, steamers, ets, it adds up quickly. I love the time saving too. Also, every part of this machine is made in Germany, you can't kill it.

Well to make an update... One thing I heard the new TM6 does ... you can essentially have the whole menu in their brain for the week for example or whole month ... and it spits out, for all the 31 dinners you have planned for the month, it aggregates all your ingredients needed and it just sends you an email of what you need to buy. This alone I can see being such a time saver!! Can you imagine going through all the recipes inventoring all the ingredients and then adding all the measurements so you know how much to buy? I can see this feature alone (let alone all the others) for someone with a family in charge of the shopping being such a big plus!!!! Im single and still see this feature as major!!

I'm not sure about the new TM6, but my wife and I only bought the TM5 about 3 years ago and just the other day the shaft that spins the blade completely sheared off when using the machine to create a simple smoothie. I called up the customer service and our consultant to get a replacement blade and they both said they wouldn't replace the blade because it was out of warranty and that the blade is an ACCESSORY. I'm pretty sure the definition of ACCESSORY is as follows (taken from a dictionary):
"a thing which can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive."
If I am not mistaken, the blade is the core function of the thermomix and without it, the machine is completely useless. That is by definition not an accessory. And if you are expected to pay over 100 dollars for a new blade every couple years because it breaks, then why would anyone pay for the massive over 2000 dollars investment in the first place? People pay that kind of money to get a good quality product. The blade completely shearing off means my machine is absolutely useless now. It is a massive paper weight. That doesn't sound like a good quality product.
Most good quality products also have substantial warranties. Why does Thermomix not have a warranty for the integral parts of their machines for the entire life of the machine? Good quality products also have great customer service. That's also something else I felt Thermomix was lacking when trying to get this problem sorted so my wife and I could resume using the thermomix. The customer service rep that called me told me that THE BLADE IS DESIGNED TO BREAK BEFORE THE MOTOR so that you don't have to replace the expensive motor. That is fine and all, but I was just making a smoothie when this happened. It's not like I was trying to grind a brick into dust. I am a structural engineer and while you definitely take into account ways a structure can fail, you don't say that you have designed the structure to fail under normal every day loading conditions so that you can replace it for cheaper!! Sure maybe work needs to be done on the building, but a broken thermomix blade is the equivalent of my whole structure becoming unserviceable.
The consultant that sold us the Thermomix definitely did not tell us that the blade was designed to break before the motor. If I new this, we definitely would not have bought one. How about you make this right and send us a replacement blade and take responsibility for the product you are selling?

The Connect is the dupe of the one shown in the video and it's sold out everywhere in Europe, it's THAT good, and costs only 300 EUR (around 370 USD).
